Influence of octupole interactions on the behavior of negative-parity states at low spins

The energies of negative-parity levels based on two-particle states exhibit a nonlinear behavior at low spins versus the core-rotation energy because the alignment process has not yet been completed for them. This behavior of negative-parity levels in the low-spin region is satisfactorily described upon the inclusion of octupole-octupole interactions. This is demonstrated within the rotational model involving the Coriolis mixing of states for the even-even isotopes ^162–168Hf.

Wave attenuation in an elastic medium

This article examines the propagation of viscoelastic (elastic) waves in a medium consisting of two layers of finite thickness. It is found that there is a mechanical effect manifest in the monotonic dependence of the damping factor on the parameters of the system. Reactions of epoxides of the pyran series involving ring expansion. Reaction of 4-methyl-3,4-epoxytetrahydropyran with potassium thiocyanate

The reaction of 4-methyl-3,4-epoxytetrahydropyran with potassium thiocyanate occurs with expansion of the oxirane ring and leads to 6-methyl-8-amino-3,7-dioxa-9-thiabicyclo[4,3,0]nonane, the formation of which has been proven by the fact that products of its acylation by acid chlorides of 2-R-cinchonic acids are obtained, and also by the formation of Mannich bases when it is treated with formaldehyde and secondary amines.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 8, pp. 1039–1042, August, 1992.     

The influence of phonon admixture and non-adiabatic effects in the even-even core on the coriolis mixing of odd nuclei states

Some generalizations of the model for odd nuclei suggested by Kerman are considered. The effects of phonon admixtures on matrix elements of Coriolis interaction are studied. Several schemes are considered for studying the role of non-adiabatic effects in the even-even core.One of the authors B. Ch. thanks L. A.Malov and V. The investigation of the (p,ρ,T) and (ps,ρs,Ts) properties of {(1−x)CH3OH + xLiBr} for the application in absorption refrigeration machines and heat pumps

The (p,ρ,T) and (p_s,ρ_s,T_s) properties of {(1−x)CH₃OH + xLiBr} over a wide range of state parameters are reported for the first time. The experiments were carried out in a constant volume piezometer over a temperature range from 298.15 K to 398.15 K, at 0.08421, 0.13617, 0.19692, 0.23133 and 0.26891 mole fractions and from atmospheric pressure up to 60 MPa. The experimental uncertainties are ΔT=±3 mK for temperature, Δp=±5·10⁻² MPa for high pressure and Δp=±5·10⁻⁴ MPa for atmospheric pressure, Δρ=±3·10⁻² kg · m⁻³ for density. An equation of state was derived for correlation of the experimental data of the solutions.     

New liquid crystal derivatives of thiazole

Cleavage of 2-methyl-5,6-dihydro-2h-pyrane by acid halides

The reaction of 2-methyl-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyrane with a number of acid halides in which the ring is cleaved is accompanied by an allylic rearrangement. The halogen atom in the isomers is replaced in the usual way by nucleophilic reagents, but aqueous alkali causes in addition the formation of 1,3,5-hexatriene and to a lesser extent recyclization to dihydropyrane.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsikhicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 12, pp. 1600–1602, December, 1984.     

Synthesis of 3-methylglutaric acid

4-Methyltetrahydropyran has been synthesized by catalytic hydrogenation of a mixture of the isomeric 4-methyl-5,6-dihydro- and 4-methylenetetrahydropyrans.
