Metabolites of the marine fungus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Humicola fuscoatra</Emphasis> KMM 4629

A new sesquiterpene of the caryophyllene series, fuscoatrol A (1), and known compounds, 11-epiterpestacin (2) and -nitropropionic acid (3), were isolated from the marine fungus Humicola fuscoatra (Traaen) KMM 4629 associated with the Kuril colonial ascidium. The structure of 1 was established on the basis of X-ray diffraction data and 2D NMR spectroscopy. 3β-Methoxyolean-18-ene (miliacin) from the marine fungus Chaetomium olivaceum

A pentacyclic tritepenoid, 3-methoxyolean-18-ene (miliacin), was isolated for the first time from the marine fungus Chaetomium olivaceum. Its structure was determined on the basis of 2D NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction data.     

New diterpene glycosides of the fungus Acremonium striatisporum isolated from a sea cucumber

Three new diterpene glycosides, virescenosides V (1), W (2), and X (3) have been isolated from a marine strain of Acremonium striatisporum KMM 4401 associated with the holothurian Eupentacta fraudatrix. Their structures have been elucidated on the basis of high resolution mass spectrometry, 1D and 2D NMR (1H, 13C, DEPT, COSY 45, COSY RCT, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY spectra) as 19-O-beta-D-altropyranosyl-7-oxo-isopimara-8(14),15-diene-2alpha,3beta-diol (1), 19-O-beta-D-altropyranosyl-isopimara-7,15-diene-2 alpha,3 beta,6 alpha-triol (2), and 19-O-beta-D-altropyranosyl-isopimara-8,15-diene-2 alpha,3 beta,7 alpha-triol (3).     

Fatty-acid composition of certain species of marine mycelial fungi

The fatty-acid composition of seven strains of marine mycelial fungi was studied. GC and GC—MS showed that marine fungi of the genus Penicillium synthesized fatty-acid mixtures of saturated and unsaturated acids of similar compositions with different percent contents. Fatty-acid profiles of fungi associated with holothuria Chiridota ochotensis were characterized for the first time. Producers of branched 15:0 and dichloro- and cyclopropane-containing acids were observed. Translated from Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 1, pp. 18–20, January-February, 2009.     

Metabolites from the marine fungus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Eurotium repens</Emphasis>

1,8-Dihydroxy-6-methoxy-3-methyl-9,10-anthracenedione (physcion, 1), 3,4-dihydro-3,6,9-trihydroxy-8-methoxy-3-methyl-1(2H)-anthraceneone (asperflavin, 2), and 2,5-dihydroxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-6-[(1E)-1-heptenyl]-benzaldehyde (tetrahydroauroglaucin, 3) were shown to be the main pigments of the marine isolate of the fungus Eurotium repens. In addition to the pigments, the fungal metabolites included the diketopiperazine alkaloid echinulin (4). The structures of the compounds were identified using NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
