Mössbauer and infrared spectroscopic studies of novel mixed valence states in cobaltous ferrocyanides and ferricyanides

Novel mixed valence states have been obtained by the treatment of cobaltous ferrocyanides (Co⁺²Fe^II) and ferricyanides (Co⁺²Fe^III) in an ozone flow. The CN stretching bands occur at 2085 cm^–1 for Co⁺²Fe^II and at 2160 cm^–1 for Co⁺²Fe^III. After the ozonization process of Co⁺²Fe^II, an intense band approximately at 2125 cm^–1 is detected. This intermediate band must correspond to a mixed valence state of the type: Fe^II–CN–Co²⁺–NC–Fe^III Mössbauer spectra recorded in situ during the ozonization of Co⁺²Fe^II show the presence of two components: a doublet with isomer shift and quadrupole splitting values close to the cobalti ferricyanide and a very broad line for the mixed valence state. From the Mössbauer and infrared spectra of the aged samples of the Co⁺²Fe^II after ozonization, a relaxation process to the initial state of the samples is observed but the mixed valence state is stable.     

Synthesis of 2,6-Dihalo-4-nitro-N-alkylanilines by Aromatic Substitution of 2,6-Dihalo-4-nitro-arylethers

An aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction of phenylethers with primary amines is described. This reaction, promoted by electron-attracting groups on the benzene ring, fast and simple to perform, leads to substituted anilines in high yields.     

Search for color singlet technicolor particles in p&pmacr; collisions at radicals = 1.8 TeV

We search for color singlet technirho and technipion production in p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. These exotic technimesons are present in a model of walking technicolor. The signatures studied are lepton plus two jets plus E(T) and multijet final states. No excess of events is seen in either final state. We set an upper limit on the technirho production cross section and exclude a region in the technipion mass versus technirho mass plane.     

Diffractive dijets with a leading antiproton in &pmacr;p collisions at sqrt

We report results from a study of events with a leading antiproton of beam momentum fraction 0.9057 GeV. Using the dijet events, we evaluate the diffractive structure function of the antiproton and compare it with expectations based on results obtained in diffractive deep inelastic scattering experiments at the DESY ep collider HERA.     

Crosslinking and ageing of C labelled polyisoprene part 1: Synthesis and polymerisation of 4-C-isoprene

4-¹³C-isoprene was prepared by the Wittig reaction. All reaction steps were optimised using unlabelled compounds. By reaction with triphenyl phosphine, ¹³C labelled methyl iodide afforded labelled methyl-triphenyl phosphine iodide in 84% yield. This reacted with meth acrolein with production of 4-¹³C-isoprene in 64% yield. Labelled polyisoprene was prepared by anionic polymerisation initiated by t-butyl lithium. Based on ¹³CH₃I the overall yield is ca 30%. The polymer was characterized by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy. The contribution of each microstructure was [cis 1-4, 72%]; [trans 1-4, 10%]; [3-4, 18%].
