The semigroup generated by certain operators on the congruence lattice of a clifford semigroup

Measurement of the transverse Doppler shift using a stored relativistic7Li+ ion beam

We have performed for the first time precision spectroscopy on a coasting fast⁷Li⁺ ion beam in a storage ring. The ion beam moving with 6.4% speed of light was first electron cooled and then merged with two counterpropagating laser beams acting on two different hyperfine transitions sharing a common upper level (λ-system). One laser was frequency locked to thea ₃ ¹²⁷J₂ hfs frequency component established as a secondary frequency standard at 514 nm. The second laser was tuned over theλ-resonance, which was recorded relative to¹²⁷J₂ hfs components. This experiment is sensitive to the time dilation in fast moving frames and will lead to new limits for the verification of special relatively. The present status of the experiment and perspectives in accuracy are discussed.     

The Role of Oxygen in the Antiviral Activity of Hypericin and Hypocrellin

The light-induced antiviral activity of hypericin and hypocrellin in the presence and absence of oxygen was examined under experimental conditions where the effect of oxygen depletion could be quantified. There was a significant reduction of light-induced antiviral activity of hypericin and hypocrellin under hypoxic conditions. Interestingly, antiviral activity of hypocrellin was not observed at low oxygen levels at which hypericin retained measurable virucidal activity. This suggests that additional pathways, such as the generation of protons from excited states of hypericin, may enhance the biological activity of activated oxygen species.     

The separation of hypericin's enantiomers and their photophysics in chiral environments

We report the first separation of the enantiomers of hypericin. Their steady-state optical spectra and ultrafast primary photoprocesses are investigated in chiral environments. Within experimental error, there is no difference between the two enantiomers in any of the systems considered. This is consistent with the emerging picture that the rich and extended absorption spectrum of hypericin is not a result of ground-state heterogeneity. It is also consistent with the observation that the spectra and photophysics of hypericin are generally insensitive to environments in which it does not aggregate.     

Toward the molecular flashlight: preparation,properties, and photophysics of a hypericin-luciferin tethered molecule

The synthesis of a molecule containing hypericin and luciferin moieties joined by a tether is reported. The light-induced (in vitro) antiviral activity as well as the photophysical properties of this new compound are measured and compared with those of the parent compounds, hypericin and pseudohypericin. This tethered molecule exhibits excited-state behavior that is very similar to that of its parent compounds and antiviral activity that is identical, within experimental error, to that of its more closely related parent compound, pseudohypericin. The implications for a photodynamic therapy that is independent of external light sources are discussed.     

The Green relations approach to congruences on completely regular semigroups

On the congruence lattice (2(5) of a completely regular semigroup S the following mappings are considered _p: P and _p: VP, whereP is any of the Green relationsH, L, R orD. The equivalence relationsP andP ^V induced by these maps represent the main object of study in the paper. The former is a complete -congruence whereas the latter is a complete congruence onC(S). In particularH ,H ^V,L ^V,R ^V coincide with the kernel, trace, left trace and right trace relations onC(S), respectively. All essential properties known for the latter relations carry over to the new relationsP andP ^V. In addition, some interesting interplays of these provide for more richness in the theory of congruences on completely regular than is the case for the kernel-trace approach to congruences on regular semigroups.     

Some Normal Cryptogroups as Semigroups of Isomorphisms

Given a Clifford semigroup G, we construct special G-operands L and R which we term conformai. Certain suboperands of L and R we call threads and fix some special G-isomorphisms, which we term coherent, of threads in R onto threads in L. On the set of all coherent G-isomorphisms of threads in L onto threads in R we define a sandwich-type multiplication. When we restrict our threads to be cyclic suboperands of L and R, this construction produces a normal cryptogroup which we represent as $ S=[Y;S_{\alpha},\chi_{{\alpha},{\beta}}] $ -Without any restriction on the threads this produces a semigroup isomorphic with a remarkable ideal of the translational hull of S. Conversely, given a strong semilattice of completely simple semigroups, satisfying certain conditions, we can represent it isomorphically as indicated above.
