States of surface V(IV)-bearing groups in phosphorus-vanadium oxide and titanium-vanadium oxide silica gels made by molecular epitaxy

Polyaniline-coated microtiter plates for use in longwave optical bioassays

A technique for coating the wells of microtiter-plates with polyaniline layers and with polyaniline/enzyme layers is presented. The resulting wells are shown to be useful for assaying enzyme substrates (as exemplified for glucose via pH) and hydrogen peroxide (via the redox properties of the film). Analyte detection is based on monitoring the absorption spectra of the polyaniline, which turn purple as a result of redox processes, or green on formation of acids by enzymatic reactions. Hydrogen peroxide (a species produced by all oxidases) and glucose (which yields protons on enzymatic oxidation) have been determined in the millimolar to micromolar concentration range. High sensitivity, film stability and good reproducibility of the measurements make the system an attractive alternative to existing biosensing schemes.     

Status of construction of the electron cooling system for the NICA booster

According to the agreement, the electron cooling system for the NICA booster should be commissioned in late 2015. The degree of completion of various units and components of the installation as of September 2015 is characterized in the present report. Part of the report is devoted to discussing the performance parameters of the installation and the engineering solutions that had to be implemented to achieve such parameters.     

On the determination of stress concentration in a stretched plate with two holes

We present a short survey of studies of the elastic interaction of two holes in a stretched plate. Special attention is paid to the study of the concentration of stresses on the contours of closely positioned holes. For two identical elliptic holes, numerical results are obtained by the method of singular integral equations. With the help of the limit transition, we determined the stress intensity factors at the vertices of semi-infinite parabolic notches. A comparison of the numerical data with known analytic solutions for two circular holes and collinear cracks is performed.     

The high-energy heavy-particle fluences in the orbits of manned space stations

The results are presented of measurements high-energy particles in a customary manned space station orbit (a 350-450-km altitude, a 51.6 degrees inclination; Salyut-6 and 7, MIR). The particles were recorded by the chambers composed of the Lavsan (polyethyleneterephtalate) solid-state nuclear track detector layers mounted outside a spacecraft for 1-3 years. A high resolution has been attained in the charge and energy spectra of 30-200 MeV/n Fe group particles. The results of measuring the particle fluxes in the space station orbits are used to restore the initial particle energy spectra in terms of the models that describe the galactic and solar cosmic rays and their penetration to the Earth's magnetosphere. The analysis demonstrates a high effectiveness of the described methods when applied to quite a number of space physics problems.
