The asymptotic stress and deformation fields associated with the contact point singularity of a nearly-flat wedge indenter impinging on a specially-oriented single face-centered cubic crystal are derived analytically in a companion paper. In order to investigate the extent of the asymptotic fields, the indentation process is simulated numerically using single crystal plasticity. The quasistatically translating asymptotic fields consist of four angular elastic sectors separated by plastically deforming sector boundaries, as predicted in the companion paper. The asymptotic stress distributions are in accord with the analytical predictions. In addition, simulations are performed for a wedge indenter with a 90° included angle in order to investigate the consequences of finite deformation and finite lattice rotation. Several salient features of the deformation field for the nearly-flat indenter persist in the deformation field for the 90° wedge indenter. The existence of the salient features is validated by comparison to experimental measurements of the lower bound on geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) densities.  相似文献

Numerical simulation of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) buoyancy-induced heat transfer and fluid flow has been analyzed in a non-isothermally heated square enclosure using finite volume method. The bottom wall of enclosure were heated and cooled with a sinusoidal function and top wall was cooled isothermally. Vertical walls of the enclosure were adiabatic. Effects of Rayleigh number (Ra = 104, 105 and 106), Hartman number (Ha = 0, 50 and 100) and amplitude of sinusoidal function (n = 0.25, 0.5 and 1) on temperature and flow fields were analyzed. It was observed that heat transfer was decreased with increasing Hartmann number and decreasing value of amplitude of sinusoidal function.  相似文献

By observing trends in the folding kinetics of experimental 2-state proteins at their transition midpoints, and by observing trends in the barrier heights of numerous simulations of coarse-grained, C(alpha) model Go proteins, we show that folding rates correlate with the degree of heterogeneity in the formation of native contacts. Statistically significant correlations are observed between folding rates and measures of heterogeneity inherent in the native topology, as well as between rates and the variance in the distribution of either experimentally measured or simulated phi values.  相似文献

In this study, the problem of steady state natural convection in an enclosure filled with a nanofluid has been analyzed numerically by using heating and cooling by sinusoidal temperature profiles on one side. The governing partial differential equations, in terms of the dimensionless stream function–vorticity and temperature, are solved numerically using the finite volume method for various inclination angles 0°≤?≤90°0°?90°, different types of nanoparticles (TiO2 and Al2O3) and fractions of nanoparticles 0≤φ≤0.10φ0.1, whereas the range of the Rayleigh number Ra is 103–105. It is found that the addition of nanoparticles into water affects the fluid flow and temperature distribution especially for higher Rayleigh numbers. An enhancement in heat transfer rate was registered for the whole range of Rayleigh numbers. However, low Rayleigh numbers show more enhancement compared to high Rayleigh numbers.  相似文献

A numerical study was performed on natural convection for water–CuO nanofluid filled enclosure where the top surface was partially exposed to convection. The cavity has a square cross-section and differentially heated. Except exposed convection part on the top, all sides are adiabatic on horizontal walls. Effects of Rayleigh number (103 ? Ra ? 105), Biot number (0 ? Bi ? ∞), length of partial convection (0.0 ? L ? 1.0) and volume fraction of nanoparticles (0.0 ? φ ? 0.1) on heat and fluid flow were investigated. The results showed that for the case of high Biot number that heat transfer along the heated was enhanced by increasing the Rayleigh number mainly at the upper portion of the heated wall. When the top wall was totally exposed to convection, the results prevail that the heat transfer was more effective at high Biot number especially at the upper portion of the heated wall. For the case of high Biot number, the results prevailed that the heat transfer at the upper portion of the heated wall increases considerably at high exposed length to convection (L); however, for L ? 0.75 the effect of L was less pronounced. Contour maps for percentage of heat transfer enhancement were presented and it was shown that the location of maximum enhancement in heat transfer was sensitive to Ra, φ and L.  相似文献
