A cochlear model with transversally inhomogeneous cross-section

The transversally inhomogeneous cross-section of the model is constructed from the data obtained by Retzius, Hardesty, Wever, and Miller. On the basis of a three-dimensional linear mechanical WKB model of a cochlea without negative friction we obtain high frequency selectivity and a phase shift in the domain of the peak of the amplitude function comparable with the measurements taken by Sellick and Robles.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. Structuring of polyacrylonitrile solutions

Mechanisms of orientation for the solutions of polyacrylonitrile synthesized under conditions of radical and anionic polymerization were studied. The effect of the fractal-matrix structuring agent developed by the AIRES foundation on the correlation parameters of the solution density and average squared fluctuation polarizability, which can be used to determine how the supramolecular structure changes by “self-orientation” and “induced orientation” mechanisms, was analyzed.     

Fullerene C6 0 Aggregates in Polymethyl Methacrylate Films

The structure of aggregates of fullerene C_{6 0} introduced into films of radical polymethyl methacrylate in the stage of solution preparation was studied by wide-angle X-ray diffraction.     

Preparation and study of properties of sulfonic acid ion exchangers based on polypropylene fibrous material

The possibility of raising the static exchange capacity of strongly acidic ion-exchange materials produced by grafting of styrene onto polypropylene fibers, with the subsequent sulfonation of the products synthesized, was analyzed. The chemical and osmotic stabilities of the sulfonic cation exchangers obtained and their frost resistance in freeze-thaw cycles were studied.

Prospects for Using Polyacrylonitrile for Preparing Carbonized Polymeric Composites

The thermochemical cyclization of different polyacrylonitrile samples prepared by radical and anionic polymerization was studied by thermal analysis, spectroscopy, and AM1 semiempirical calculations. A calorimetric study of the enthalpy of enzymatic hydrolysis of components of a product from vegetable raw materials for enteral feeding

The enthalpy of hydrolysis of potato starch and some starch-containing components of Lider-1 nutrition product for enteral (tube) feeding in the presence of α-amylase enzyme was studied on a DAK-1-1 differential microcalorimeter.     

Microwaves and cellular immunity. II. Immunostimulating effects of microwaves and naturally occurring antioxidant nutrients

The effect of 8.15-18 GHz (1 Hz within) microwave radiation at a power density of 1 microW/cm2 on the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) production and immune response was tested. A single 5 h whole-body exposure induced a significant increase in TNF production in peritoneal macrophages and splenic T cells. The mitogenic response in T lymphocytes increased after microwave exposure. The activation of cellular immunity was observed within 3 days after exposure. The diet containing lipid-soluble nutrients (beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol and ubiquinone Q9) increased the activity of macrophages and T cells from irradiated mice. These results demonstrate that irradiation with low-power density microwaves stimulates the immune potential of macrophages and T cells, and the antioxidant treatment enhances the effect of microwaves, in particular at later terms, when the effect of irradiation is reduced.
