We consider diffraction by a semi-infinite crack located alonga fusion interface between two differing elastic media. Twotypes of crack, namely open and partially closed cracks, areinvestigated. An open crack is modelled by a stress-free contactboundary condition and a partially closed crack is modelledby a spring contact boundary condition. For the latter, thejump in the stress across the crack is assumed to be proportionalto the jump in the displacement across the crack. This situationarises in, for example, a K-weld where the fine grain of theparent material (for example, ferritic or forged austeniticsteel) is in stark contrast with the coarse-grained weld metal(for example, austenitic weld metal). In the metal weld thedirection of the grain axis varies through the metal. However,diffraction is a local phenomenon and so the austenitic steelis assumed to have a zonal axis so that it may be modelled bya transversely isotropic composite. The ferritic or forged austeniticsteel will be modelled as an isotropic material.  相似文献

Electrochemical techniques are applied to estimate the fractal dimension value of electroactive surface structures. However, the fractal dimension value is an abstract concept, which sometimes is hard to understand. Herein, this abstract concept is used to calculate the fractional content of the nickel/graphite–polypropylene hybrid composite material, putting into practice this concept in the study of composite materials.  相似文献

We contribute to research on visualization as an epistemic learning tool by inquiring into the didactical potential of having students visualize one phenomenon in accord with two different partial meanings of the same concept. 22 Grade 4–6 students participated in a design study that investigated the emergence of proportional-equivalence notions from mediated perceptuomotor schemas. Working as individuals or pairs in tutorial clinical interviews, students solved non-symbolic interaction problems that utilized remote-sensing technology. Next, they used symbolic artifacts interpolated into the problem space as semiotic means to objectify in mathematical register a variety of both additive and multiplicative solution strategies. Finally, they reflected on tensions between these competing visualizations of the space. Micro-ethnographic analyses of episodes from three paradigmatic case studies suggest that students reconciled semiotic conflicts by generating heuristic logico-mathematical inferences that integrated competing meanings into cohesive conceptual networks. These inferences hinged on revisualizing additive elements multiplicatively. Implications are drawn for rethinking didactical design for proportions.  相似文献

Transparent film materials with excellent mechanical and thermal properties were elaborated by drying a latex suspension of armored polymer/Laponite composite particles. Low‐temperature TEM observation of ultrathin cross‐sections of the films indicated a unique network morphology characterized by a “honeycomb” distribution of the Laponite platelets remindful of the original particles morphology.

Compliance and enforcement in fisheries are important issues from an economic point of view since management measures are useless without a certain level of enforcement. These conclusions come from the well‐established theoretical literature on compliance and enforcement problems within fisheries and a common result is that, it is efficient to set fines as high as possible and monitoring as low as possible, when fines are costless and offenders are risk neutral. However, this result is sensitive to the assumption that fishermen cannot engage in avoidance activities, e.g., activities to reduce the likelihood of being detected when noncomplying. The paper presents a model of fisheries that allows the fishermen to engage in avoidance activities. The conclusions from the model are that, under certain circumstances, fines are costly transfers to society since they not only have a direct positive effect on the level of deterrence, but also an indirect negative effect in the form of increased avoidance activities to reduce the probability of detection. The paper contributes to the literature on avoidance activities by introducing the externality from the illegal behavior as an endogenous effect on other offenders. For an externality, that has an exogenous effect on other actors, Malik shows that fines are only costly transfers for conditional deterrence (when one actor is deterred while another actor is not). For fisheries, we show that fines are also costly transfers under no deterrence (when no agents are deterred).  相似文献

A novel asparagine-derived lipid analogue (ALA(11,17)) bearing a tetrahydropyrimidinone headgroup and two fatty chains (11 and 17 indicate the lengths of linear alkyl groups) was synthesized in high yield and purity. The thin film hydration of formulations containing 5 mol % or greater ALA(11,17) in distearoylphosphatidylcholine (DSPC) generated multilamellar vesicles (MLVs) that remained unaggregated according to optical microscopy, while those formed from DSPC only were highly clustered. The MLVs were processed into unilamellar liposomes via extrusion and were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential, turbidity, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. Results show that the presence of ALA(11,17) in DSPC liposomes significantly alters the morphology, colloidal stability, and retention of encapsulated materials in both acidic and neutral conditions. The ability of ALA(11,17)-hybrid liposomes to encapsulate and retain inclusions under neutral and acidic conditions (pH < 2) was demonstrated by calcein dequenching experiments. DLS and SEM confirmed that ALA(11,17)/DSPC liposomes remained intact under these conditions. The bilayer integrity observed under neutral and acidic conditions and the likely biocompatibility of these fatty amino acid analogues suggest that ALA(11,17) is a promising additive for modulating phosphatidylcholine lipid bilayer properties.  相似文献

Beyond the usual ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases present in spin systems, the usual q-state clock model presents an intermediate vortex state when the number of possible orientations q for the system is greater than or equal to 5. Such vortex states give rise to the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase present up to the XY model in the limit q. Based on information theory, we present here an analysis of the classical order parameters plus new short-range parameters defined here. Thus, we show that even using the first nearest neighbors spin-spin correlations only, it is possible to distinguish the two transitions presented by this system for q greater than or equal to 5. Moreover, the appearance at relatively low temperature and disappearance of the BKT phase at a rather fix higher temperature is univocally determined by the short-range interactions recognized by the information content of classical and new parameters.  相似文献

Summary: Polymer latex particles were synthesized in the presence of inorganic particles, which had been organically-modified to promote favorable interactions with growing macromolecules. The organic modification was performed using three different routes: (1) surface covalent grafting of vinyl trialkoxysilanes, (2) surface adsorption of polyethylene glycol-based macromonomers, and (3) bulk modification through ion exchange with cationic monomers or cationic initiators. Two types of mineral particles were studied: commercial and self-prepared silica particles (with diameters from 80 nm to 1 µm), and commercial laponite clay particles with a cation exchange capacity of 0.75 meq · g−1. Emulsion polymerization was performed in the presence of styrene or butyl acrylate monomers. The morphologies of the nanocomposite particles were observed by (cryogenic) transmission electron microscopy and correlated to the organic modification procedure.  相似文献
