The effects of viscous dissipation on thermal entrance heat transfer in a parallel plate channel filled with a saturated porous medium, is investigated analytically on the basis of a Darcy model. The case of isothermal boundary is treated. The local and the bulk temperature distribution along with the Nusselt number in the thermal entrance region were found. The fully developed Nusselt number, independent of the Brinkman number, is found

A spectral Fourier-Chebyshev method for calculating unsteady two-dimensional free surface flows is presented and discussed. The vorticity-stream function equations are used in association with an influence matrix technique for prescribing the boundary and free surface conditions. Dynamic rheological measurements provide a valid determination of the ability of polymeric ingredients to compensate the reduced contribution of fat to texture and mouthfeel, as well as provide an emulsion that easily breaks down in commercial low-fat butters. In this study, the linear effects of pectin (PE, 0.5%) and xanthan gum (XG, 0.1%) and their interactions with locust bean gum (LBG, 0.2% and 0.4%), sodium-alginate (ALG, 0.2% and 0.4%), and modified starch (MS, 0.2% and 0.4%) on the flow behavior, dynamic rheological characteristics, and stability of reduced-fat butters containing 10% walnut oil (WO) were investigated. Results showed that the power law model can adequately fit the shear-rate/shear-stress data (0.888?≤?r?≤?0.992, p?0.01). Flow behavior index of all the butters was approximately in the range of 0.6–0.9, which corresponds to pseudoplastic behavior. They behaved like an elastic solid with G′?>?G″ at all frequencies. The samples prepared with PE–LBG (0.2% and 0.4%) and XG–ALG (0.4%) had the highest G′ values. The phase angle (G″/G′) decreased with increasing frequency from 0.03 to 15?Hz. The maximum apparent viscosity and stability were, respectively, found for WO butters formulated with XG–0.2% ALG and PE–0.4% LBG. 相似文献

High frequency ultrasound imaging of whole blood gelation and retraction during in vitro coagulation

Blood coagulation is a series of biochemical reactions resulting in the mechanical transformation of liquid blood into a gel. As a consequence, ultrasound, being mechanical waves, can provide specific details on the dynamics of coagulation. In fact, previous high-frequency ultrasound monitoring studies have shown drastic changes in ultrasound velocity and attenuation during whole blood coagulation and a model discussing the observed mechanical transformations was proposed. In this paper, a technique of visualization of the clotting mechanism is introduced, which complements and revises the previous hypotheses. This method is based on the monitoring of scatterers (red blood cells) movement through a time correlation of 20 MHZ rf signals. It allows the computing of both a displacement map revealing local details and disparities and a parameter quantifying the global structural behavior. Qualitative results for two typical samples show that the technique provides new insights on the gelation dynamics. A quantitative analysis computed from 12 healthy subjects found that the changes in the structural parameters are significantly correlated to the changes in velocity and attenuation, both dependent on the mechanical transformations in the sample. The previous model is therefore revised and a new way to measure gel and retraction times is proposed. 相似文献
