In this study, a novel stepwise extraction method has been examined. The guest molecules housed between the helices of the clathrate δ form of syndiotactic polystyrene can be removed completely with this method. A systematic study of the preparation of a solvent‐free mesophase (emptied clathrate) membrane, its helical and residual solvent contents, and its structural transformations has been performed. In this first attempt, an enhancement in the TTGG helical content has been observed in the extracted membrane, and a conceptual mechanism is proposed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A crystalline δ form of a syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) membrane was prepared from a solution of sPS (1 wt %) and p‐chlorotoluene (p‐CT) by a solution‐casting method. The mesophase (δ empty form) of sPS was obtained by the extraction of the guest solvent from the δ form of sPS by a stepwise solvent‐extraction method. The sPS/p‐CT mesophase membrane [p‐CT (A‐M)] was used for the sorption of 1 mol % p‐CT for different times and for the sorption of different concentrations of p‐CT, chlorobenzene (CB), p‐xylene (p‐X), toluene, and chloroform for 48 h. The presence of solvents in the sPS membrane was confirmed by IR analysis. A thermal study revealed that the sorption amount of 1 mol % p‐CT increased with increasing immersion time, and the sorption amounts of different solvents increased with increasing solvent concentration. Differential scanning calorimetry results showed that the desorption peak temperature increased as the amount of the solvent increased in the clathrated sPS membrane. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction results showed that 2θ at 8.25° was slightly shifted toward 8°, and there was no change in the peak position at 10° for p‐CT (A‐M), which was immersed in different solvents (1 mol %); however, the intensity of 2θ at 10° was not similar for all the samples. Among the solvents used for the sorption studies at 1 mol %, p‐CT (A‐M) could sorb more p‐CT and CB than p‐X, toluene, and chloroform. Syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) has various crystalline forms such as α, β, γ, and δ forms, and a mesophase depending on the preparation method. In this study, we focused on the mesophase with the molecular cavity of sPS, which is obtained by step‐wise extraction of the guest molecules from the sPS δ form. To prepare the mesophase containing different shapes and sizes of the cavity, two kinds of the sPS δ form membrane cast from either toluene or chloroform solution were first prepared and then the guest molecules were removed by a step‐wise extraction method using acetone and methanol. We could succeed in the preparation of two kinds of mesophase with different shapes and sizes of the molecular cavity. Either toluene or chloroform vapor sorption to the sPS mesophase membranes was examined at 25 °C. Sorption analysis indicates that the mesophase with large molecular cavities can mainly sorb large molecules; on the other hand, the mesophase with small cavities can sorb only the small molecules, and is unable to sorb a large amount of large molecule because the cavity was too small to sorb the large molecules. New porphyrin-based gelators bearing eight hydrogen-bond-forming amide groups at their periphery were synthesized. They acted as versatile gelators for aromatic solvents. SEM and TEM observations and X-ray crystallographic analysis established that they tend to aggregate into a two-dimensional sheet-like structure utilizing the intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interaction. In this structure the porphyrin-porphyrin π-π stacking interaction is not involved because of the energetically-predominant hydrogen-bonding interactions, keeping the space distance of 12.9 Å. Very interestingly, when C60 was added, the morphology was transformed to a one-dimensional fibrous structure, which can enjoy a porphyrin-C60-porphyrin interaction. This multicapsular structure having porphyrin-based compartments for hosting C60 was further characterized by XRD, EPR of a Cu(II) analogue, and the theoretical calculation. Thus, this paper presents a new concept, ‘molecular recognition in gel’, which is effective for the weak host-guest interaction.  相似文献

The properties and reactivities of the xanthone (Xn) ketyl radical (XnH*) in the doublet excited state (XnH*(D1)) were examined by using two-color two-laser flash photolysis. The absorption and fluorescence of XnH*(D1) were observed for the first time. Several factors governing the deactivation processes of XnH*(D1) such as interaction and reaction with solvent molecules were discussed. The remarkable change of reactivity of XnH*(D1) compared with that in the ground state (XnH*(D0)) was indicated from the experimental results. The rapid halogen abstraction of XnH*(D1) from some halogen donors such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) was found to occur. The halogen abstraction occurred more efficiently in the polar solvents than in the nonpolar solvents. It is suggested that the polar solvents promote the spin distribution of XnH*(D1) of the phenyl ring favorable to the halogen abstraction.  相似文献

Photophysical properties of oligo(2,3-thienyleneethynylene)s (nTE, n denotes the number of thiophene rings, n = 2, 3) in benzene were investigated using steady-state, time-resolved fluorescence, and transient absorption spectroscopies. For 2TE, generation of the radiative S2 and nonradiative S1 states was confirmed. Upon excitation, the S2 state was initially generated and deactivated to the S1 state within 10 ps. The S1 state exhibited the transient absorption band at 470 nm, of which the lifetime was estimated to be 5.3 ns. In the case of 3TE, on the other hand, it was revealed that the radiative S1 state with a transient absorption peak at 650 nm was generated upon excitation. The T1 states of nTE were generated from the S1 states. The quantum yields were estimated to be 0.52 and 0.54 for 2TE and 3TE, respectively. Extremely fast reactions in the higher triplet excited state were indicated for both 2TE and 3TE.  相似文献

Asymmetric membrane potentials and transport properties of polypeptide membrane consisting of two layers with poly(L-glutamic acid) and poly (γ-methylL-glutamate) were studied in the pH range of 2 to 6 at 25 °C. Under the condition adopted, the poly (L-glutamic acid) layer of the membrane underwentα helix to coil transition which was confirmed by ATR-IR measurements. The membrane potentials of the asymmetric membrane between two identical solutions of KCl,Δψ asym, which is called asymmetric potential, were observed.Δψ asym values were effected by the structural transition of poly (L-glutamic acid) layer. As a result, the effective charge density of the membrane, which was derived by the asymmetric membrane potential measurements, had a maximum at the transition region of pH=4.8. On the other hand, the permeation coefficient of KCl,P i, was higher in the direction from poly (L-glutamic acid) side to poly (γ-methylL-glutamate) side, “GM direction”, than in the oppositeMG direction. Furthermore,P i inGM direction was dependent on the solution pH, that is,P i decreased when pH was increased to 4.8 and increased on further increasing of pH These membrane behaviors were described in terms of the competition between structural transition and variation of fixed charge density owing to the helix to coil transition of the asymmetric polypeptide membrane.  相似文献

The ability of powdered Nylon 612 to bind methyl orange, ethyl orange, propyl orange, and butyl orange was investigated at 5, 15, 25 and 35°C in an aqueous solution. The amount of binding of the dye is much higher with this polyamide than with powdered Nylon 66 reported previously,1 although the former polymer has fewer amide end groups. The Van't Hoff plots of the first binding constant for the binding of butyl orange and propyl orange by powdered Nylon 612 exhibit a bell-shaped curve, whereas the plots for methyl orange and ethyl orange do not. Maximal binding occurs at approximately 15°C for propyl orange and at about 25°C for butyl orange. This is the first instance where the peculiar temperature dependence of the binding constant has been found in the binding of propyl orange, whose hydrophobicity is less than that of butyl orange. These tendencies can be accounted for in terms of increased hydrophobic of butyl orange. These tendencies can be accounted for in terms of increased hydrophobic domains in powdered Nylon 612 and enhanced hydrophobic contributions in the binding process.  相似文献

An L-DNA, the mirror-image isomer of natural DNA, has extraordinary nuclease resistance, and thus the molecules should be promising reagents for many applications, such as antisense technology. However, little is known about the structural and thermodynamic properties of DNAs with this modified nucleotide. In this study, we prepared the L-nucleotide (L-dA) and introduced it into oligodeoxyribonucleotides to assess the ability of the L-nucleotide as a functional molecule for many applications based on the DNA hybridization. Two decamers with an L-dA at the center were synthesized and duplexes with the complementary DNA strand were applied to structural and thermodynamic analyses. The structural study by CD spectra showed that the structures of both modified "L/D-D" duplexes were the typical B-form. This result suggests that the global structure of DNA was not collapsed by the introduction of an L-DNA. Thermodynamic parameters (deltaH degrees, deltaS degrees, and deltaG degrees 37) of the duplex formation, determined by UV melting experiments, indicated that the both duplexes were destabilized at about 2.5 to 3.0 kcal mol(-1) by the introduced L-dA, mainly due to an unfavorable enthalpic effect. In conjunction with information by other researchers, these results suggest that the L-DNA affect on the duplex structure and the stability vary locally; thus, the thermodynamic stability of modified L/D-D duplexes should be predictable by the nearest-neighbor thermodynamic parameters.  相似文献
