In situ bioremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) polluted soils can be improved by the augmentation of degrading microbial populations and by the increase of hydrocarbon bioavailability. β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) significantly accelerate the induction of hydrocarbon biodegradation, but it is not still clear its effectiveness during final, slower stages of degradation. Moreover, it is yet not known if the PAH uptake from plants is influenced by the presence of CD. A field study was carried out by creating two plots (A and B). Diesel fuel was spread on the surface, and on plot B a commercial microbial consortium and β-CD were spread. Soybean was seeded in both plots. Soil samples were withdrawn every 10 cm layers from 0 to 60 cm depth, before fuel spreading, immediately after seeding and after soya harvesting. Chemical and microbial analyses were carried out throughout the process to characterize the soil and to determine residual PAHs. Soybean seeds were analyzed for PAH content. It was observed that β-CD induced a significant increase of PAH degradation rate. The microbial inoculum did not improve the degradation; biodegradation activity was strong in superficial layers, and some PAH leaching was observed, that was reduced by CD. The analysis of PAH in soyabeans revealed that an uptake of hydrocarbons occurred, and that it was more significant in plot B. This suggests that the β-CD-enhanced bioremediation process can further be improved by phytoremediation, that could also allow to simultaneously reach an additional profit from a non-food yield for biofuel production.  相似文献

Synthesis of sterols with varying side chains, including deuterium labeled stigmasterol and sitosterol may be performed via the Wittig-Horner coupling of a 22 aldehyde derived from stigmasterol and a suitable sulfoxide derivative of the side chain. The X-ray structure determination of this synthon have been performed since it is a crucial step in order to know the absolute configuration of the chiral carbon atoms. Scale dependence and localization of the deformation of Arctic sea ice   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A scaling analysis of the deformation of Arctic sea ice over a 3-day time period is performed for scales of 10 to 1000 km. The deformation field is derived from satellite radar data; it allows us to study how a very large solid body-the Arctic sea-ice cover-deforms under the action of heterogeneous forcing winds and ocean currents. The deformation is strongly localized at small scales, and can be characterized as multifractal. This behavior is well known for turbulent flows, and is here also observed for a deforming solid. A multiscaling extrapolation to the meter scale (laboratory scale) shows that, at the 3-day time scale, about 15% of the deformation is larger than 10(-4) s(-1), implying brittle failure, over 0.2% of the total area.  相似文献

The plant sterols sitosterol and stigmasterol exert very different effects on plant model membranes, the first one being a "reinforcer" like cholesterol, the second one not. 25-(2)H-Stigmasterol has been synthesized by coupling of the 22-aldehyde derived from stigmasterol by ozonolysis, with the proper sulfone labeled in position 25. The configuration of the ethyl side chain at C-24 was controlled by separation of the diastereomers introduced via a chiral sulfoxide. This synthetic scheme allowed the introduction of a labeled side chain in plant sterols in eight steps for stigmasterol and nine for sitosterol (overall yield ca. 15%). Using both diastereomers, the 24-epimers of sitosterol (clionasterol) and stigmasterol (poriferasterol) have also been synthesized. Deuterium NMR on oriented lipid bilayers made of soybean phosphatidylcholine and containing these four labeled plant sterols clearly reveals the difference of orientation and mobility of the four side chains.  相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) flame retardants are persistent pollutants and inhibit neurodevelopment, particularly in the early stages of life. Halogen bonding (XB) to the iodothyronine deiodinases (Dio) that modulate thyroid hormones (THs) is a potential mechanism for endocrine disruption. Cl⋅⋅⋅Se XB interactions of PCBs with SeMe, a small model of the Dio active site selenocysteine, are compared with previous results on polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) and THs using density functional theory. PCBs generally display weaker XB interactions compared to PBDEs and THs, consistent with the dependence of XB strength on the size of the halogen (I>Br>Cl). PCBs also do not meet a proposed energy threshold for substrates to undergo dehalogenation, suggesting they may behave as competitive inhibitors of Dio in addition to other mechanisms of endocrine disruption. XB interactions in PCBs are position-dependent, with ortho interactions slightly more favorable than meta and para interactions, suggesting that PCBs may have a greater effect on certain classes of Dio. Flexibility of PCBs around the biphenyl C−C bond is limited by ortho substitutions relative to the biphenyl linkage, which may contribute to the ability to inhibit Dio and other TH-related proteins.  相似文献

The dispersion of flexural waves propagating in the Arctic sea ice cover is exploited in order to locally measure the ice thickness. The observed dispersion, for waves filtered in the 4-20 s period interval, at up to 4 broad-band seismometers deployed in Spring 2007 near the North Pole, is compared to a parameterized model that accounts for a complex wavefield made of a superposition of independent plane waves with different amplitudes and back-azimuth angles. The parameterization, that includes finding the best modeled ice thickness, is performed by using the cross-correlation functions between the seismometers. The ice thickness is estimated to 2.5 ± 0.2 m for the ~1 km-large floe the seismic stations were deployed on, which is coherent with other, independent measurements at this site. This study thus demonstrates the feasibility of using broad-band seismometers deployed on the sea-ice in order to passively measure the ice thickness, without requiring active sources nor human intervention.  相似文献
