Deprotection of thioacetals and 1,3-dithianes with dimethylsulphoxide

The dialkylthioacetals, cyclic ethanediylthioacetals and 1,3-dithianes are shown to undergo facile dethioacetalization on heating in dimethylsulphoxide under neutral conditions to afford the corresponding carbonyl compounds in good yields.     

Iron-catalyzed regioselective direct oxidative aryl-aryl cross-coupling

Regioselective iron-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) of two aromatic compounds using tert-BuOOH as oxidant under mild conditions has been reported. The direct oxidative coupling reaction is selective toward creation of a carbon-carbon bond at the position ortho to the functional groups of the substrates, completely preventing the homocoupled products. The C-C bond-forming reaction makes the method versatile, leading to functionalized 2,2' -disubstituted biaryls.     

Microwave-Assisted,Rapid, Solvent-Free Aza-Michael Reaction by Perchloric Acid Impregnated on Silica Gel

Highly efficient solvent-free aza-Michael additions of a variety of amines to α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds under microwave-irradiation conditions catalyzed by perchloric acid impregnated on silica gel (HClO₄/SiO₂) is reported. The reactions are completed within 2–7 min in a microwave oven to produce the corresponding adducts in excellent yields, and the catalyst can be recovered and reused.     

Acid Catalyzed Multicomponent Reaction to Access Functionalized N-Benzhydryl Amides: A Tandem Ritter Reaction

Acid catalyzed multicomponent reaction (MCR) for the synthesis of N-benzhydryl amide derivatives from aldehydes, N,N-disubstituted arylamines and nitriles is reported. The reaction is compatible with electronically differentiating aryl/heteroaryl aldehydes/acetals, different nucleophiles (cyclic and acyclic N,N-disubstituted arylamines,β-naphthols, 1,3 dicarbonyl, 1,3,5-trimethoxy benzene), alkyl nitriles, aryl/heteroaryl nitriles in catalytic TFA/TfOH through tandem Ritter reaction. The one-pot MCR with broad substrate scope generated a wide variety of sterically hindered N-substituted amides and is successfully applied for the synthesis of isoindolinone.     

Functionalized styryl bipyridine as a superior chelate for a ruthenium sensitizer in dye sensitized solar cells

The new sensitizer MC119 has been synthesized and the solar cell constructed with 0.25 cm(2) active area photoelectrode in combination with an electrolyte composed of 0.6 M dimethylpropyl-imidazolium iodide (DMPII), 0.05 M I(2), 0.5 M TBP and 0.1 M LiI in acetonitrile achieved a solar to electric energy conversion efficiency (η) of 8.36% under Air Mass (AM) 1.5 sunlight, while the reference N719 sensitized solar cell exhibited η-value of 7.2%.     

Highly Efficient Microwave‐Assisted Synthesis of Subphthalocyanines

A novel, highly efficient, single‐step synthesis of subphthalocyanines using microwave irradiation of phthalonitrile and boron trichloride in 1‐chloronaphthalene was accomplished for the first time. This provides a new preparative method for the synthesis of subphthalocyanines with reduced reaction times and improved yields.     

Cu-catalyzed direct ortho-chlorination/-oxygenation of aryls: Switching of oxidant,control the diversity of products

Highly regioselective copper catalyzed ortho-chlorination of aryl pyridines was achieved with TBHP as oxidant and 1,2-dichloroethane as chlorinating agent for the first time. Switching the oxidant from TBHP to benzoyl peroxide under identical reaction conditions effects ortho-oxygenation.     

Reaction of β-Oxodithioesters With Propargylamine: A Facile Entry to Novel 2-(Acylalkylidene)-5-(Methylene)Thiazolidines

Reaction of β-oxodithioesters derived from acyclic and cyclic ketones with propargylamine affords novel 2-(acylalkylidene)-5-(methylene)-thiazolidines in high yields by intramolecular nucleophilic attack of thiocarbonyl sulfur on the triple bond of the β-oxo-N-propargylthioamide intermediates.
