Novel chiral macrocycles consisting of two rigid oligoarylene rods and two chiral spiroindane clips have been synthesized by condensation of spiroindane diols and CF3-activated alpha-omega-difluorooligoaryls. Since a broad variety of planar aromatic macrocycles is known, our non-planar, chiral rings represent a new class of macrocyclic compounds. The first two examples, which contain quaterphenylene and diphenylbithiophene rods, are presented in this communication; for one of them a crystal structure is given. The chiroptical properties of the macrocycles can be interpreted as an interplay of the "intra-rod" helicity of individual oligoarylene rods and the "inter-rod" helicity between both chromophores of the macrocycle. The macrocycles can act as chiral dopands of commercially available, and novel, polymeric nematic liquid crystals (emissive polyfluorenes). The "intra-rod" helicity of individual oligoarylene rods is the main feature in determining the resulting helical twisting power (HTP). The cholestric induction in mesogenic, emissive polyfluorenes is of special interest for a realization of electronic devices that have a circularly polarized electroluminescence. The results are also important for an understanding of larger ensembles of chiral rodlike molecules, especially their pi-pi interactions.  相似文献

We report on the efficiency behavior of light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) fabricated from a methyl-substituted ladder-type poly(p-phenylene) (mLPPP) that was blended with a crown ether based solid state electrolyte. Unlike organic light-emitting diodes (oLEDs) utilizing mLPPP as an active layer, the LECs suffer from a loss of efficiency at elevated current densities. From scan rate dependent studies we deduce that this efficiency drop is not only due to device decomposition upon high voltage operation and we also reveal the intrinsic mode of LEC operation. The decreasing width of the intrinsic region between the p- and n-type doped zones upon ongoing pin-junction formation causes distinct (either field or electrode induced) luminance quenching effects.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Alpha-bungarotoxin (alpha-BTX) is a highly toxic snake venom alpha-neurotoxin that binds to acetylcholine receptor (AChR) at the neuromuscular junction, and is a potent inhibitor of this receptor. We describe the design and synthesis of peptides that bind alpha-BTX with high affinity, and inhibit its interaction with AChR with an IC(50) of 2 nM. The design of these peptides was based on a lead peptide with an IC(50) of 3x10(-7) M, previously identified by us [M. Balass et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 94 (1997) 6054] using a phage-display peptide library. RESULTS: Employing nuclear magnetic resonance-derived structural information [T. Scherf et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 94 (1997) 6059] of the complex of alpha-BTX with the lead peptide, as well as structure-function analysis of the ligand-binding site of AChR, a systematic residue replacement of the lead peptide, one position at a time, yielded 45 different 13-mer peptides. Of these, two peptides exhibited a one order of magnitude increase in inhibitory potency in comparison to the lead peptide. The design of additional peptides, with two or three replacements, resulted in peptides that exhibited a further increase in inhibitory potency (IC(50) values of 2 nM), that is more than two orders of magnitude better than that of the original lead peptide, and better than that of any known peptide derived from AChR sequence. The high affinity peptides had a protective effect on mice against alpha-BTX lethality. CONCLUSIONS: Synthetic peptides with high affinity to alpha-BTX may be used as potential lead compounds for developing effective antidotes against alpha-BTX poisoning. Moreover, the procedure employed in this study may serve as a general approach for the design and synthesis of peptides that interact with high affinity with any desired biological target.  相似文献

Abstract

Two new series of solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) based on phosphorus containing (co)polyesters (PPE) and Lithium triflate were obtained. PPEs are composed of phosphonate moeties (cyclohexyldichlorophosphonate (CHDP)) as linking agent and two diols: PEG (6000) and poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) in PPE I, and PEG (6000) and 4,4′-cyclohexylidenebisphenol (bisphenol Z, BZ) in PPE II. Polycondensation was carried out in solution in the presence of triethylamine (TEA) as scavenger of HCl side product (PPE I–IIa) and in the absence of any acid acceptor (PPE I–IIb). The Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) and thermal analysis were performed both on polymers and membranes. The ionic conductivity of SPE membranes based on PPE-salt complexes, with various salt concentrations, was investigated at different temperature and ionic transference numbers were determined. Optimum composition was obtained for the polymer which contains in structure only alkyl units and 15% Lithium triflate.  相似文献

The role of high pressure on a low molecular weight nematic liquid crystalline organic semiconductor, ethyl‐hexyl substituted polyfluorene (PF2/6) is investigated using photoluminescence (PL), Raman scattering, and X‐ray scattering studies at pressures from 1 to 8 GPa. The PL and the Raman data under pressure are consistent with each other with no abrupt changes in the pressure coefficients of PL or Raman peaks. The PL energies redshift and broaden, consistent with both enhanced intra‐ and interchain interactions. The Raman peak positions yield pressure coefficients similar to other phenyl based π‐conjugated polymers. The broadening of a doublet peak in the 1135 cm?1 region indicates a more planar backbone conformation with increasing pressure. X‐ray scattering indicates that the torsion angle between adjacent repeats reduces with increasing pressure and reverts back with decompression. The intermolecular structure is weakly ordered (frozen nematic) and essentially maintained with increasing pressure, in contrast to a high molecular weight PF2/6. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Electrically induced phosphorescence from a poly(para-phenylene) ladder-type polymer is observed for the first time and characterized using time resolved spectroscopy. Short-lived phosphorescence is also observed in gated fluorescence spectra and is found to be quenched reversibly by oxygen. Thermally activated triplet diffusion to covalently bound palladium sites, which are formed at a concentration of about 80 ppm in a side reaction during polymer synthesis, is believed to be the cause of this novel effect, which suggests a new approach to the design of efficient electroluminescent materials.  相似文献

We report on the laser modes in optically pumped solid-state lasers using an electroluminescent organic semiconductor as the active medium. Mechanically flexible distributed-feedback lasers are fabricated by depositing a thin film of an active material onto a nano-patterned polyester substrate either via spin-coating of a soluble ladder-type poly(p-phenylene) or via vacuum co-sublimation of small organic molecules. The different surface texture resulting from the fabrication process causes different feedback mechanisms. In both lasers higher lateral modes give rise to a broadening of the laser spectra at higher pumping levels. Design of plasmonic nanoantennae for enhancing spontaneous emission   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We apply two- and three-dimensional numerical calculations to study optical nanoantennae made of two coupled gold nanostructures, enclosing a single emitter in their gap. We show that, using structures manufacturable with today's nanotechnology, it is possible to increase the radiative decay rate by three orders of magnitude while keeping a quantum efficiency larger than 80% in the near-infrared regime. We examine the competition between the radiative and nonradiative processes in the presence of the antennae as a function of wavelength and antenna geometry. Our results hold great promise for improving the quantum efficiency of poor emitters such as silicon nanocrystals or carbon nanotubes.  相似文献

Conjugated polymer nanoparticles based on poly[9,9‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)fluorene] and poly[N‐(2,4,6‐trimethylphenyl)‐N,N‐diphenylamine)‐4,4′‐diyl] are fabricated using anionic surfactant sodium dodecylsulphate in water by miniemulsion technique. Average diameters of polyfluorene and polytriarylamine nanoparticles range from 70 to 100 and 100 to 140 nm, respectively. The surface of the nanoparticles is decorated with triplet emitting dye, tris(2,2′‐bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) chloride. Intriguing photophysics of aqueous dispersions of these hybrid nanoparticles is investigated. Nearly 50% quenching of fluorescence is observed in the case of dye‐coated polyfluorene nanoparticles; excitation energy transfer is found to be the dominant quenching mechanism. On the other hand, nearly complete quenching of emission is noticed in polytriarylamine nanoparticle‐dye hybrids. It is proposed that the excited state electron transfer from the electron‐rich polytriarylamine donor polymer to Ru complex leads to the complete quenching of emission of polytriarylamine nanoparticles. The current study offers promising avenues for developing aqueous solution processed‐electroluminescent devices involving a conjugated polymer nanoparticle host and Ru or Ir‐based triplet emitting dye as the guest.
