The problem of obtaining the first and second derivatives of the profile of a pendant droplet is formulated as an integral equation of the first kind. This equation is solved by Tikhonov regularization in which the method of general cross validation is used to guide the selection of the regularization parameter. These derivatives are converted into mean curvature as a function of droplet height. Surface tension is then obtained by regression computation between the mean curvature and two possible algebraic expressions suggested by the Laplace-Young equation. This way of obtaining surface tension is demonstrated by applying it to a number of published droplet profiles. Some of the problems encountered are discussed and solutions suggested.  相似文献

We demonstrate intravascular photoacoustic imaging of human coronary atherosclerotic plaque. The data was obtained from two fresh human coronary arteries ex vivo, showing different stages of disease. A 1.25?mm diameter intravascular imaging catheter was built, comprising an angle-polished optical fiber adjacent to a 30?MHz ultrasound transducer. Specific photoacoustic imaging of lipid content, a key factor in vulnerable plaques that may lead to myocardial infarction, is achieved by spectroscopic imaging at different wavelengths between 1180 and 1230?nm. Simultaneous imaging with intravascular ultrasound was performed.  相似文献

Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS) is a useful technique for solving organometallic and coordination chemistry characterization problems that are difficult to address using traditional methods. However, assigning the ESI mass spectra of such compounds can be challenging, and the considerations involved in doing so are quite different from assigning the mass spectra of purely organic samples. This is a tutorial article for organometallic/coordination chemists using ESI‐MS to analyze pure compounds or reaction mixtures. The fundamentals of assigning ESI mass spectra are discussed within the context of organometallic and coordination systems. The types of ions commonly observed by ESI‐MS are categorized and described. Finally, a step‐by‐step guide for the assignment of organometallic and coordination chemistry ESI mass spectra is provided along with two case studies.  相似文献

We construct a phase diagram for self-assembling biologically active peptide amphiphiles. The structure and stability of the assemblies are studied as a function of pH and salinity of the solution. The general features of the phase diagram are predicted based on theoretical modeling of the self-assembly process, as well as experimental data, and further experiments are performed to verify and ascertain the boundary locations of the diagram. Depending on solution conditions, the amphiphiles can form cylindrical or spherical micelles, intermediate structures between these, or may not assemble at all. We also demonstrate that changing conditions may result in phase transitions among these structures. This type of phase diagram could be useful in the design of certain supramolecular nanostructures by providing information on the necessary conditions to form them.  相似文献

A rapid liquid chromatographic (LC) method with postcolumn oxidation and fluorescence detection (excitation 330 nm, emission 390 nm) for the determination of paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) in shellfish tissue has been developed. Extracts prepared for mouse bioassay (MBA) were treated with trichloroacetic acid to precipitate protein, centrifuged, and pH-adjusted for LC analysis. Saxitoxin (STX), neoSTX (NEO), decarbamoylSTX (dcSTX), and the gonyautoxins, GTX1, GTX2, GTX3, GTX4, GTX5, dcGTX2, and dcGTX3, were separated on a polar-linked alkyl reversed-phase column using a step gradient elution; the N-sulfocarbamoyl GTXs, C1, C2, C3, and C4, were determined on a C-8 reversed-phase column in the isocratic mode. Relative toxicities were used to determine STX-dihydrochloride salt (diHCl) equivalents (STXeq). Calibration graphs were linear for all toxins studied with STX showing a correlation coefficient of 0.999 and linearity between 0.18 and 5.9 ng STX-diHCI injected (equivalent to 3.9-128 microg STXeq/100 g in tissue). Detection limits for individual toxins ranged from 0.07 microg STXeq/100 g for C1 and C3 to 4.1 microg STXeq/100 g for GTX1. Spike recoveries ranged from 76 to 112% in mussel tissue. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of repeated injections of GTX and STX working standard solutions was < 4%. Uncertainty of measurement at a level of 195 microg STXeq/100 g was 9%, and within-laboratory reproducibility expressed as RSD was 4.6% using the same material. Repeatability of a 65 microg STXeq/100 g sample was 3.0% RSD. Seventy-three samples were analyzed by the new postcolumn method and both AOAC Official Methods for PST determination: the MBA (y = 1.22x + 13.99, r2 = 0.86) and the precolumn LC oxidation method of Lawrence (y = 2.06x + 12.21, r2 = 0.82).  相似文献

Atomistic grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations were performed in this work to investigate the role of open copper sites of Cu-BTC in affecting the separation of carbon monoxide from binary mixtures containing methane, nitrogen, or hydrogen. Mixtures containing 5%, 50%, or 95% CO were examined. The simulations show that electrostatic interactions between the CO dipole and the partial charges on the metal-organic framework (MOF) atoms dominate the adsorption mechanism. The binary simulations show that Cu-BTC is quite selective for CO over hydrogen and nitrogen for all three mixture compositions at 298 K. The removal of CO from a 5% mixture with methane is slightly enhanced by the electrostatic interactions of CO with the copper sites. However, the pore space of Cu-BTC is large enough to accommodate both molecules at their pure-component loadings, and in general, Cu-BTC exhibits no significant selectivity for CO over methane for the equimolar and 95% mixtures. On the basis of the pure-component and low-concentration behavior of CO, the results indicate that MOFs with open metal sites have the potential for enhancing adsorption separations of molecules of differing polarities, but the pore size relative to the sorbate size will also play a significant role.  相似文献

Translation of specific small peptides on the ribosome can confer resistance to macrolide antibiotics. To reveal the molecular details of this and related phenomena, stable RNA–peptide conjugates that mimic peptidyl‐tRNA would be desirable, especially for ribosome structural biology. A flexible solid‐phase synthesis strategy now allows efficient access to these highly requested derivatives without restriction on the RNA and peptide sequences.
