Influence of the composition of the polymer matrix on the electrooptical properties of films with a dispersed liquid crystal

Polymer films with a dispersed liquid crystal were prepared by photopolymerization of (meth)acrylic monomers. The electrooptical properties of these films were studied. The influence exerted by the composition of the monomer mixture, cross-linking agents, and chain-transfer agent on the liquid crystal drop size and on the transmission of the polymer-liquid crystal films was examined.     

Synthesis of amorphous block copoly(arylene ether ketones) and their characterization

Exchange reactions that may proceed in the course of polycondensation during formation of a polymer from 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone and 4,4′-(isopropylidene)diphenol have been studied. It has been shown that the molecular mass of the polymer decreases under the action of 4,4′-(isopropylidene)diphenol diphenolate. The nucleophilic substitution of the activated aryl halide in DMAA in the presence of potassium carbonate yields high-molecular-mass block copoly(arylene ether ketones) based on 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone and a number of bisphenols. It was demonstrated the synthetic procedure and the chemical structure of block copoly(arylene ether ketones) strongly affect the onset temperature of softening and the mechanical characteristics of the films based on these polymers.     

Reactions of Elemental Phosphorus and Phosphine with Electrophiles in Superbasic Systems: XVI. Phosphorylation of Benzyl Chloride with Elemental Phosphorus and Phosphine

The major product of the reaction of benzyl chloride with red phosphorus in the system concentrated aqueous KOH-dioxane-phase-transfer catalyst (43–95°C, Ar) is tribenzylphosphine oxide (yield up to 61%). Under similar conditions, phosphorylation of benzyl chloride with white phosphorus occurs differently, yielding dibenzylphosphine oxide as major product. Reactions of Elemental Phosphorus with Electrophiles in Super Basic Systems: XVII. Phosphorylation of Arylalkenes with Active Modifications of Elemental Phosphorus

The example of the phosphorylation of styrene and 2-vinylnaphthalene with elemental phosphorus in the KOH-DMSO system at room or elevated temperature was used to show that the activated red phosphorus prepared from white phosphorus under ionizing radiation has a reactivity comparable with that of white phosphorus and significantly higher than that of ordinary technical red phosphorus.

2-isoxazolines from arylcyclopropanes: I. Monoarylcyclopropanes in a reaction with nitrosyl chloride activated by sulfur(IV) oxide

A reaction of monoarylcyclopropanes with nitrosyl chloride activated by sulfur (IV) oxide gave in good yields 5-arylisoxazolines. The reaction is of electrophilic character. A scheme of the reaction was suggested.     

Effect of an amorphous precursor macrostructure on the size of NaA and NaX zeolites

The effect of an amorphous precursor macrostructure on size of NaA and NaX zeolites is studied. NaA and NaX zeolites grown in dense aluminosilicate gels reach sizes of 6?C8 ??m, while NaA and NaX zeolites grown in gels with loose particles reach sizes of 20?C30 ??m. Gel density is controlled by adding organic compounds to the initial solutions.

Synthesis of 9-aryl-3,4,6,7,9,10-hexahydroacridine-1,8(2Н,5Н)-diones

The reaction in a mixture of 1,3-cyclohexanedione (dimedone), arylaldehyde, and ammonium acetate at 160°C during 10–15 min in the absence of solvent leads to the formation of 9-aryl-3,4,6,7,9,10-hexahydroacridine-1,8(2H,5H)-diones. The structure of the products has been confirmed by IR and ¹H NMR spectroscopy data. Antimicrobial activity of the obtained compounds has been studied.
