Abstract— Penicillium isariaeforme is a photomorphogenic fungus which produces upright bundles of conidia-bearing mycelia (called coremia) when grown on a defined medium in visible (450–500 nm) light. We found that exogenous Ca2+ ions could substitute for light. In the dark 1–2 m M Ca2+ triggered coremia formation. Dark induction of coremia was specific for Ca2+ in that it could not be duplicated by 50 m M Ba2+ , Fe2+ , Mg2+ , Mn2+ , Sr2+ , or Zn2+ . Additionally, light-induced coremia formation was inhibited by both KI (2.5 m M ) and phenylacetic acid (0.25 m M ). 相似文献

Abstract The resolution of the absorption spectra in the Q band (480 nm-620 nm) spectral region of monomeric and dimeric hematoporphyrin species present in aqueous solutions has been achieved using absorption, fluorescence and computer analysis methods. The absorption maxima of the dimer in this spectral region are red shifted about 12 nm with respect to those of the monomer. The significance of this finding in relationship to the well documented blue shift of hematoporphyrin aggregate observed in the Soret band region (λmalx ∼400 nm) of the absorption spectrum is discussed. 相似文献

ABSTRACT. The principal contribution of this paper is the linking together of separate control problems across multiple generations using the bequest motive, intergenerational altruism, rational expectations, and solution boundary conditions. We demonstrate that discounting at the market rate of interest is an endogenous characteristic of a general equilibrium, optimal control problem that spans multiple generations. Within the confines of our model, we prove that it is optimal to discount at the market rate of interest the social benefits to distant generations from immediate clean up at toxic waste sites if the current generation that bears the cleanup cost is perfectly altruistic towards future generations. Also, we show that this result holds for alternative assumptions regarding pure time preference. Moreover, the result holds regardless of whether selfish interim generations attempt to undo the provisions made for distant generations. In our distortion‐free deterministic model, the evidence for intergenerational discounting at the market rate of interest is compelling. 相似文献

Ab initio symmetry and internal valence coordinate oxygen–proton and proton–proton spin–spin coupling surfaces for the water molecule have been computed for the first time. Calculations have been performed at the SOPPA (CCSD) level using a large basis set and a grid of forty-nine geometries on the two surfaces. Equilibrium values differ significantly from some other calculated values especially for the Fermi contact terms. The bond length dependence of J(O, H) is ‘normal’ i.e. J(O, H1) is much more sensitive to stretching the O–H1 bond than the O–H2 bond. This contrasts greatly with the corresponding situation in methane. The surfaces have been averaged over the nuclear motion using a recent highly accurate force field to give values of J (O, H) and J (O, D) for H2 17O, HD17O and D2 17O and J(H, D) for HD16O, HD17O and HD18O over a range of temperatures. For J (O, H) and J (O, D) bond stretching at first order is the dominant part of the nuclear motion correction with second order bending making an important contribution. For J (H, D) the second order bending is by far the largest contribution to the nuclear motion corrections although the other terms partially cancel this contribution. Non-additivity can be largely attributed to the bending term for J (O, H). As expected, the bending terms also contribute relatively more to the temperature dependence of the couplings for J (O, H), J (O, D) and J (H, D). Our calculated J (O, H) in H2 17O of -77.22Hz at 293K is in very good agreement with Wasylishen and Friedrich's observed value of -78.70 (±0.02) Hz in cyclohexane at this temperature. Our calculated J(H, D) in HD 16O at 323K of -1.233Hz is close to a recent experimental value of -1.114 (±0.003) Hz in nitromethane-d 3 observed by Sergeyev et al. at that temperature. 相似文献

Algebraic methods to establish the identification of structural equation models remain a viable option. However, sometimes it is unclear whether the algebraic solution establishes identification. One example is when there is more than one way to solve for the parameter, but one way leads to a single value and a second way leads to a function with more than one value. This article proves that one explicit and unique solution is sufficient for model identification even when other explicit solutions permit more than one solution. The results are illustrated with an example. The results are useful to attempts to use algebraic means to address model identification. 相似文献

We report calculations of the interaction-induced polarizability (δαanis), magnetizability (δξanis;) and hypermagnetizability (δηanis) anisotropies for the helium gas as a function of the interatomic separation. From these data we determine the virial coefficients for the Cotton—Mouton effect and the hypermagnetizability anisotropy of helium. We also find the mean polarizability and magnetizability as a function of the interatomic separation and the virial coefficients for these properties. The results for the Cotton—Mouton effect indicate that pressure affects the Cotton—Mouton constant to the same extent as it does the second hyperpolarizability (γ) and the virial coefficient bCME(ω, T) lies in the range of ?1.6 to ?1.8 cm3 mol?1. This means that pressure effects for the Cotton-Mouton constant could be detected with modern experimental techniques. All calculations were carried out using the full configuration interaction technique and large basis sets of London atomic orbitals. The polarizability calculations were performed both for relevant optical frequencies as well as the static case. 相似文献

Abstract— The sensitivity of phototactic orientation of pseudoplasmodia (slugs) of the cellular slime mold Dictyosrelium discoideum has been measured for white light and monochromatic light using computer aided directional statistics. The zero threshold for white light was found at about 10-5 Ix. An action spectrum for positive phototaxis has been calculated from fluence rate-response curves; it shows two major maxima at about 420 and 440 nm and secondary peaks at 560 and 610 nm. This action spectrum is significantly different from the one for phototactic orientation in Dictyostelium amoebae. 相似文献

ABSTRACT. In this paper we discuss the costate variable in a stochastic optimal control model of a renewable natural resource, which we call a fishery. The role of the costate variable in deterministic control models has been discussed extensively in the literature. See for example Lyon [1999], Clark [1990, pp. 102 107] and Arrow and Kurz [1970, pp. 35 37]; however, there is little discussion of this variable for stochastic models, even though thecostate variable has similar roles in the two models. In both models the costate variableis a shadow value of the associated state variable, and as such has the role of rationingthe use of the state variable. In addition, as has been shown in Lyon [1999], in natural resource problems the costate variable can be partitioned into a scarcity effect and a cost effect. We show that this same partitioning can be done in the stochastic renewable resource problem. We discuss and contrast the similarities and differences in these concepts for deterministic and stochastic models. In addition, we present a numerical example to help solidify the results. 相似文献

Abstract This paper uses a general equilibrium optimal growth model to discuss the role of optimal discounting of future benefits from cleanup at high‐level toxic waste sites. Cleanup simultaneously generates two streams of benefits. One of these is directly from utility and the other is indirectly from the added productivity of workers. We note that the optimal discount rate is different for these two types of benefits. Along the optimal path, the former are discounted at the rate of time preference and the latter at the market rate of interest. We achieve this by identifying four components of the shadow value of the stock of toxic waste. These are the utility, productivity, cost, and abundance effects. The distinction between discount rates appears to have been overlooked in the literature but has significant implications for environmental cost‐benefit analysis due to the growing interest in applying zero time preference to environmental problems, (like waste cleanup) whose consequences extend many generations into the future. A numerical example is included to illustrate these concepts. 相似文献
