The stuffed tridymite structure Ba(Zn/Co)1−xSi1−xM2xO4 (M=Al3+ and Fe3+) is explored for the possible multiferroic behavior and to develop new inorganic colored materials. The compounds were synthesized by employing conventional solid-state chemistry methods in the temperature range 1100–1175 °C for 24 h. The powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and Rietveld refinement studies indicate that the compounds stabilize in the P63 space group (no. 173). The refinement results were also rationalized by employing Raman spectroscopic studies. The compounds were found to be second harmonic generation (SHG) active and show weak ferroelectric behavior. The co-substitution of Co2+ and Fe3+ in the structure gives rise to a weak ferromagnetic behavior to the compound, BaCo0.75Si0.75Fe0.5O4, making it a multiferroic material. The optical studies on the prepared compounds exhibited blue color (Co2+ in Td geometry), purple color (Ni2+ in Td geometry), and simultaneous substitution of Co2+ and Fe3+ gives rise to blue-green color owing to metal-to-metal charge transfer (MMCT) effect.  相似文献

The article reports on the wetting properties of silicon-based materials as a function of their roughness and chemical composition. The investigated surfaces consist of hydrogen-terminated and chemically modified atomically flat crystalline silicon, porous silicon and silicon nanowires. The hydrogenated surfaces are functionalized with 1-octadecene or undecylenic acid under thermal conditions. The changes occurring upon surface functionalization are characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectroscopy and water contact angle measurements. By increasing the surface roughness, the static water contact angle increases. The combination of high surface roughness with chemical functionalization with water repellent coating (1-octadecene) enables reaching superhydrophobicity (water contact angle greater than 150°) for silicon nanowires.  相似文献

The utilization of tetrahedral pre-formed coordination compounds {M(C2O4)4}4- (M = Zr(IV), U(IV); C2O4(2-) = oxalate) permitted the efficient construction of rare examples of heteronuclear supramolecular nano-porous architectures. A series of metal-organic coordination frameworks prepared by association of these building units with either Mn2+, Cd2+, or Mg2+ have been structurally characterized and are described. Their 3-D chemical scaffold is based on the primary tetrahedral building unit but their pore sizes and topologies could be varied through the M2+ metal ion involved in the assembling process, and the anionic tetrahedral moiety. These structures display channels with apertures up to 12 Angstrom x 8 Angstrom which are emptied of solvates at mild temperatures without affecting the chemical scaffold, the integrity of which is maintained up to 250-300 degrees C. A certain degree of flexibility of the coordination polymers upon guest release is suggested by the temperature dependence of the powder X-ray patterns and N2 sorption experiments, but reversible and selective sorption of small molecules has been observed substantiating that these open-frameworks behave like sponges.  相似文献

A cosmological scenario with two branes (A and B) moving in a 5-dimensional bulk is considered. As in the case of ecpyrotic and born-again braneworld models it is possible that the branes collide. The energy-momentum tensor is taken to describe a perfect barotropic fluid on the A-brane and a phenomenological time-dependent cosmological constant on the B-brane. The A-brane is identified with our Universe and its cosmological evolution in the approximation of a homogeneous and isotropic brane is analysed. The dynamics of the radion (a scalar field on the brane) contains information about the proper distance between the branes. It is demonstrated that the deSitter type solutions are obtained for late time evolution of the braneworld and accelerative behaviour is anticipated at the present time.  相似文献

The cover picture shows how thrombosis occurs in the deep veins of the lower limbs. Stasis, which results from slow and turbulent blood flow, combined with hypercoagulation, caused, for example, by a surgical procedure, may result in thrombus formation. The synthetic sulfated pentasaccharide shown in part is a potent antithrombotic compound that exerts its effect by activation of the plasma protein antithrombin III. Conformationally locked monosaccharides have now been synthesized to demonstrate that L-iduronic acid, one part of the pentasaccharide, must adopt an unusual distorted conformation to activate antithrombin III. Such conformational effects might be relevant in explaining the unique biological properties of glycosaminoglycans that contain L-iduronic acid. In the background of the picture, a flight of vampire bats is attracted by the pentasaccharide. Vampire was the name given to South American blood-sucking bats (Latin name: desmodus rotundus) in 1761 by the French naturalist Georges Louis Leclerc Comte de Buffon (1707-1788). These bats are known to attack cattle and, very rarely, sleeping human beings. Although their saliva has been shown to contain an anticoagulant compound, they would also be happy to benefit from the pentasaccharide mentioned above, to suck the blood out of the vein more easily. Natasha Flyer Many types of radial basis functions (RBFs) are global in termsof having large magnitude across the entire domain. Yet, incontrast, e.g. with expansions in orthogonal polynomials, RBFexpansions exhibit a strong property of locality with regardto their coefficients. That is, changing a single data valuemainly affects the coefficients of the RBFs which are centredin the immediate vicinity of that data location. This localityfeature can be advantageous in the development of fast and well-conditionediterative RBF algorithms. With this motivation, we employ hereboth analytical and numerical techniques to derive the decayrates of the expansion coefficients for cardinal data, in both1D and 2D. Furthermore, we explore how these rates vary in theinteresting high-accuracy limit of increasingly flat RBFs.  相似文献

It is shown that the Wess-Zumino term of a heterotic superstring in aN = 1,D = 10 supergravity background can be given in terms of the torsion of the background in both versions (IA and IB) of theN = 1,D = 10 supergravity theory. The gauge degrees of freedom of the background are included according to the ideas of Kaluza and Klein. Explicit expressions for the vielbein, connection, torsion, and curvature of a space with 506 bosonic and 16 fermionic coordinates are given.  相似文献

The asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of α-amido-β-keto esters to provide the corresponding anti-β-hydroxy-α-amido esters in good to excellent yields, diastereoselectivity, and enantioselectivity is reported.
