The composition of nonvolatile fluids obtained from thermally cracking and hydrogenating polyisobutylene was determined by using a combination of gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). This work involved the separation and characterization of a homologous series, C11–C40, of sixteen branched hydrocarbon species consisting of repeating isobutylene structures. As a result of this investigation, useful correlations between NMR spectra and molecular structure for highly branched hydrocarbons were developed. The data demonstrate that these hydrocarbons are unique species characterized by “crowded” and sterically hindered geminal methyl and isolated methylene groups. NMR solvent shift studies in benzene solutions indicate that it is possible to differentiate between maximally crowded geminal methyl groups and between maximally crowded methylene groups in these structures. Results of the benzene-induced solvent effects are discussed with respect to the stereochemistry of these molecules and related to existing solvent shift data. These results suggest that these hydrocarbons are polar or nearly polar materials. Successive losses of isobutylene units from stabilized tertiary radicals can account for the formation of the major species identified in these fluids. Higher carbon numbered species have lower refractive indices and densities and higher molal volumes than predicted by calculations.  相似文献

X-ray absorption near-edge spectra and temperature-programmed oxidation and reduction data demonstrate that Au(I) and Au(0) are both present in working MgO-supported gold catalysts for CO oxidation. EXAFS data indicate gold clusters with essentially the same average diameter (about 30 A) in each catalyst sample. Thus, the results provide no evidence of an effect of gold cluster size on the catalytic activity, but both the catalytic activity and the surface concentration of Au(I) were found to decrease with increasing CO partial pressure (as Au(0) was increasingly formed), demonstrating that the catalytic sites incorporate Au(I).  相似文献

Thirty-six listeners localized continuous filtered noise bursts centered on 2.3 or 8.3 kHz under normal listening conditions or while wearing earmuffs. The noise bursts were from any one of 20 loudspeakers, 18 degrees apart, visible to the listeners, and arranged in the horizontal and vertical planes. Listeners were free to move, while remaining seated, throughout all trials. The noise bursts were terminated by the listeners. Measures of accuracy and latency showed that earmuff listening had a significant effect whereas, overall, signal frequency had no significant effect. There was, however, an apparent downward shift of the 2.3-kHz signals presented above the midline in the vertical plane. Analysis of video records of listeners' behavior revealed a strong tendency for initial orientation by head or eye movement to correlate with final response, even when both were inaccurate. The paradigm adopted in this latter aspect of the study illustrates an "ecological" approach to the study of auditory phenomena.  相似文献

Protein film voltammetry of Paracoccus pantotrophus respiratory nitrate reductase (NarGH) and Synechococcus elongatus assimilatory nitrate reductase (NarB) shows that reductive activation of these enzymes may be required before steady state catalysis is observed. For NarGH complementary spectroscopic studies suggest a structural context for the activation. Catalytic protein film voltammetry at a range of temperatures has allowed quantitation of the activation energies for nitrate reduction. For NarGH with an operating potential of ca. 0.05 V the activation energy of ca. 35 kJ mol-1 is over twice that measured for NarB whose operating potential is ca. -0.35 V.  相似文献
