The addition of electrons to form gas-phase multiply charged anions (MCAs) normally requires sophisticated experiments or calculations. In this work, the factors stabilizing the MCAs, the maximum electron uptake of gas-phase molecules, X, and the electronic stability of MCAs XQ-, are discussed. The drawbacks encountered when applying computational and/or conceptual density functional theory (DFT) to MCAs are highlighted. We develop and test a different model based on the valence-state concept. As in DFT, the electronic energy, E(N, vex), is a continuous function of the average electron number, N, and the external potential, vex, of the nuclei. The valence-state-parabola is a second-order polynomial that allows extending E(N, vex) to dianions and higher MCAs. The model expresses the maximum electron acceptance, Qmax, and the higher electron affinities, AQ, as simple functions of the first electron affinity, A1, and the ionization energy, I, of the "ancestor" system. Thus, the maximum electron acceptance is Qmax, calc = 1 + 12A1/7(I -A1). The ground-state parabola model of the conceptual DFT yields approximately half of this value, and it is termed Qmax, GS = ${}^{1}\!\!\diagup\!\!{}_{2}\; $ + A1/(I -A1). A large variety of molecules are evaluated including fullerenes, metal clusters, super-pnictogens, super-halogens (OF3), super-alkali species (OLi3), and neutral or charged transition-metal complexes, ABmLn0/+/-. The calculated second electron affinity A2, calc = A1-(7/12)(I -A1) is linearly correlated to the literature references A2, lit with a correlation coefficient R = 0.998. A2 or A3 values are predicted for further 24 species. The appearance sizes, nap3-, of triply charged anionic clusters and fullerenes are calculated in agreement with the literature. 相似文献

In this paper,we establish a new algorithm to the non-overlapping Schwarz domain decomposition methods with changing transmission conditions for solving one dimensional advection reaction diffusion problem.More precisely,we first describe the new algorithm and prove the convergence results under several natural assumptions on the sequences of parameters which determine the transmission conditions. Then we give a simple method to estimate the new value of parameters in each iteration. The interesti... 相似文献

We compared the characteristics of dodecanethiolate palladium nanoparticles synthesized by two different techniques, a one-phase method and a two-phase method. From transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we determined that the particle sizes were 46 +/- 10 angstroms and 20 +/- 5 angstroms for the one- and two-phase particles, respectively. Electron diffraction confirmed that their structure was face-centered cubic (fcc). The lattice constant a0 was 3.98 +/- 0.01 angstroms and 3.90 +/- 0.01 angstroms for the one- and two-phase particles, respectively. High-resolution TEM (HRTEM) showed that the one-phase particles had an ordered core surrounded by a disordered shell structure, while the two-phase particles appeared to be crystalline throughout. The particles were also analyzed with extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). A cuboctahedral fcc model was used to fit the data, which implied particle sizes of less than 10 angstroms for both the one- and two-phase particles. The discrepancy between the two techniques was attributed to the presence of a disordered phase, which we presumed was composed of Pd-S compounds. Compared with the bulk palladium, lattice expansion was observed in both one- and two-phase particles by electron diffraction, HRTEM, and EXAFS. At the air/water interface, a uniform film that produced surface pressure/area isotherms could only be obtained from the two-phase particles. The one-phase particles did not wet the water surface. X-ray reflectivity data indicated that the Langmuir monolayer of the two-phase particles was only 13 angstroms thick. TEM revealed the diameter of the particles in this layer to be 23 angstroms; hence the particles assumed an oblate structure after spreading. EXAFS examination of a stack of 750 Langmuir monolayers indicated far fewer Pd-S compounds, which may have dissolved in the water. The data were consistent with a model of a monolayer of truncated cuboctahedron Pd particles that were 7 angstroms thick and 19 angstroms in diameter. 相似文献

The positions of electronic band edges are one important metric for determining a material's capability to function in a solar energy conversion device that produces fuels from sunlight. In particular, the position of the valence band maximum (conduction band minimum) must lie lower (higher) in energy than the oxidation (reduction) reaction free energy in order for these reactions to be thermodynamically favorable. We present first principles quantum mechanics calculations of the band edge positions in five transition metal oxides and discuss the feasibility of using these materials in photoelectrochemical cells that produce fuels, including hydrogen, methane, methanol, and formic acid. The band gap center is determined within the framework of DFT+U theory. The valence band maximum (conduction band minimum) is found by subtracting (adding) half of the quasiparticle gap obtained from a non-self-consistent GW calculation. The calculations are validated against experimental data where possible; results for several materials including manganese(ii) oxide, iron(ii) oxide, iron(iii) oxide, copper(i) oxide and nickel(ii) oxide are presented. 相似文献
