Identification,synthesis and conformational study of a CN(R,S) synthon by-product: (5R, 10R)-5,10-diphenyl-1,6-diaza-3,8-dioxabicyclo[4.4.1]undecane

The title compound, containing a new heterocyclic skeleton, was identified by X-ray crystallography as the product of condensation of (R)-phenylglycinol with an excess of formaldehyde. The molecule adopts a rigid double twist-chair conformation in both solid and solution states.     

2-Cyano Δ3piperideine VII1 : the condensation of 2-cyano Δ3piperideine with sodium dimethylmalonate catalyzed by ZnCl2 or zero valent palladium and platinum complexes

ZnCl₂, Pd (PØ₃)₄ and Pt(PØ₃)₄ were found to be effective catalysts for the condensation of sodium dimethyl malonate with 2-cyano Δ³piperideine $\text{1}$ a–d.     

Diasteroselective synthesis of new spiropiperidine scaffolds from the CN(R,S) building block

A methodology allowing the construction of spiropiperidine scaffolds similar to those found in naturally occurring alkaloids has been developed. This approach begins with the well-established CN(R,S) strategy, the spiro-center being built by way of an intramolecular attack of a nitrile function by an organolithium species obtained by a halogen/lithium exchange reaction mediated by either t-BuLi or lithium naphthalenide.     

Asymmetric Synthesis of alpha-Amino Phosphonic Acids by Diastereoselective Addition of Trimethyl Phosphite onto Chiral Oxazolidines(1)

A simple and general asymmetric synthesis of alpha-amino phosphonic acids is described. The method involves the highly selective addition of trialkyl phosphite onto various chiral oxazolidines. Oxazaphosphorinanes thus obtained with an excellent diastereoselectivity furnish the corresponding (S)-alpha-substituted amino phosphonic acids in good overall yields and high ee (77-->97%) after simple deprotection.     

Asymmetric Synthesis. 39.(1) Synthesis of 2-(1-Aminoalkyl)piperidines via 2-Cyano-6-phenyl Oxazolopiperidine

The asymmetric synthesis of a series of 2-(1-aminoalkyl) piperidines using (-)-2-cyano-6-phenyloxazolopiperidine 1 is described. LiAlH(4) reduction of 1 followed by hydrogenolysis led to the diamine 3. The same strategy applied to C-2-methylated compound 7 afforded [(2S)-2-methylpiperidin-2-yl]methanamine (9). Addition of lithium derivatives to the cyano group of 1 resulted in the formation of an intermediate imino bicyclic system (11a-c) which could be diastereoselectively reduced to substituted diamino alcohols 13a-c. The addition of an excess of PhLi to 1 in the presence of LiBr furnished disubstituted amine 19, the precursor of diphenyl[(2S)-piperidin-2-yl]methanamine (22).     

An experimental and modeling study of the oxidation of n-heptane,ethylbenzene, and n-butylbenzene in a jet-stirred reactor at pressures up to 10 bar

In the context of better understanding pollutant formation from internal combustion engines, new experimental speciation data were obtained in a high-pressure jet-stirred reactor for the oxidation of three molecules, which are considered in surrogates of diesel fuel, n-heptane, ethylbenzene, and n-butylbenzene. These experiments were performed at pressures up to 10 bar, at temperatures ranging from 500 to 1 100 K, and for a residence time of 2 s. Based on results previously obtained close to the atmospheric pressure for the same molecules, the pressure effect on fuel conversion and product selectivity was discussed. In addition, for the three fuels, the experimental temperature dependence of species mole fractions was compared with simulations using recent literature models with generally a good agreement. For n-heptane, the obtained experimental data, at 10 bar for stoichiometric mixtures, included the temperature dependence of the mole fractions of the reactants and those of 21 products. Interestingly, the formation of species previously identified as C₇ diones was found significantly enhanced at 10 bar compared with lower pressures. The oxidation of ethyl- and n-butylbenzenes was investigated at 10 bar for equivalence ratios of 0.5, 1, and 2. The obtained experimental data included the temperature dependence of the mole fractions of the reactants and those of 13 products for the C₈ fuels and of 19 products for the C₁₀ one. For ethylbenzene under stoichiometric conditions, the pressure dependence (from 1 to 10 bar) of species mole fraction was also recorded and compared with simulations with more deviations obtained than for temperature dependence. For both aromatic reactants, a flow rate analysis was used to discuss the main pressure influence on product selectivities.     

Synthesis of side‐chain‐substituted ifosfamide analogs

Three analogs of the cytostatic drug ifosfamide incorporating 1‐methyl‐2‐chloroethyl side chains were designed and prepared as an attempt to obtain drugs of lower toxicity.     

Ultrashort, intense ultraviolet pulse generation by efficient frequency tripling and adapted phase matching

We demonstrate efficient frequency tripling of 1057-chirped pulses, using adapted chirping and thick KDP crystals. These millijoules broadband pulses at 352 nm have been compressed to 220-fs duration by use of a UV grating-pair compressor. The technique is scalable to kilojoule petatwatt lasers.
