State-of-the-art predictions for the Higgs-boson production cross section via gluon fusion and for all relevant Higgs-boson decay channels are presented in the presence of a fourth Standard-Model-like fermion generation. The qualitative features of the most important differences to the genuine Standard Model are pointed out, and the use of the available tools for the predictions is described. For a generic mass scale of 400−600 GeV in the fourth generation explicit numerical results for the cross section and decay widths are presented, revealing extremely large electroweak radiative corrections, e.g., to the cross section and the Higgs decay into WW or ZZ pairs, where they amount to about −50 % or more. This signals the onset of a non-perturbative regime due to the large Yukawa couplings in the fourth generation. An estimate of the respective large theoretical uncertainties is presented as well.  相似文献

Investigations of the development of auditory form and function have, with a few exceptions, thus far been largely restricted to birds and mammals, making it difficult to postulate evolutionary hypotheses. Teleost fishes represent useful models for developmental investigations of the auditory system due to their often extensive period of posthatching development and the diversity of auditory specializations in this group. Using the auditory brainstem response and morphological techniques we investigated the development of auditory form and function in zebrafish (Danio rerio) ranging in size from 10 to 45 mm total length. We found no difference in auditory sensitivity, response latency, or response amplitude with development, but we did find an expansion of maximum detectable frequency from 200 Hz at 10 mm to 4000 Hz at 45 mm TL. The expansion of frequency range coincided with the development of Weberian ossicles in zebrafish, suggesting that changes in hearing ability in this species are driven more by development of auxiliary specializations than by the ear itself. We propose a model for the development of zebrafish hearing wherein the Weberian ossicles gradually increase the range of frequencies available to the inner ear, much as middle ear development increases frequency range in mammals.  相似文献

Laboratory robotic technology has made it possible to automate the manually intensive operations associated with the extraction of vitamins from food. The modular approach to robotics allows the conversion from one extraction procedure to another by a simple addition or replacement of a module plus reprogramming. This is illustrated for the extraction of vitamins C and B1 from food samples. Because many of the organic micronutrients are unstable, storage and extraction conditions must be established to stabilize labile compounds if the full capabilities of robotics are to be realized.  相似文献

A Σ-group is an abelian group in which certain infinite sums are postulated to exist and to satisfy axioms suggested by the properties of unconditional sums in abelian convergence groups. Two notions of convergence are considered: in terms of nets, and in terms of filters. It is proved that every Σ-group can be regarded as a net convergence group (of a particular type). An example is given to show that the same does not remain true if filters are used instead of nets. For the special class of ‘adic’ Σ-groups, however, it is proved that filters are adequate.  相似文献

This study examines the dependence of molecular alignment accuracy on a variety of factors including the choice of molecular template, alignment method, conformational flexibility, and type of protein target. We used eight test systems for which X-ray data on 145 ligand-protein complexes were available. The use of X-ray structures allowed an unambiguous assignment of bioactive overlays for each compound set. The alignment accuracy depended on multiple factors and ranged from 6% for flexible overlays to 73% for X-ray rigid overlays, when the conformation of the template ligand came from X-ray structures. The dependence of the overlay accuracy on the choice of templates and molecules to be aligned was found to be the most significant factor in six and seven of the eight ligand-protein complex data sets, respectively. While finding little preference for the overlay method, we observed that the introduction of molecule flexibility resulted in a decrease of overlay accuracy in 50% of the cases. We derived rules to maximize the accuracy of alignment, leading to a more than 2-fold improvement in accuracy (from 19% to 48%). The rules also allowed the identification of compounds with a low (<5%) chance to be correctly aligned. Last, the accuracy of the alignment derived without any utilization of X-ray conformers varied from <1% for the human immunodeficiency virus data set to 53% for the trypsin data set. We found that the accuracy was directly proportional to the product of the overlay accuracy from the templates in their bioactive conformations and the chance of obtaining the correct bioactive conformation of the templates. This study generates a much needed benchmark for the expectations of molecular alignment accuracy and shows appropriate usages and best practices to maximize hypothesis generation success.  相似文献

Approximately 300,000 compounds from selected libraries were screened against a subdomain of a hepatitis C viral (HCV) RNA using a high throughput flow injection mass spectrometry (FIA-MS) method with automated data storage and analysis. Samples contained 2 microM RNA target and 10 microM of each of up to ten ligands. Preliminary studies to optimize operational parameters used the binding of aminoglycosides to the A44 subdomain of bacterial RNA. Binding (confirmed by titration) and sensitivity were maximized within the constraints of the library and throughput. The mobile phase of 5 mM ammonium acetate in 50% isopropanol maintained the noncovalent complexes and provided good detection by electrospray mass spectrometry. Additionally, this composition maximized general solubility of the various classes of compounds including the oligonucleotide and organic library molecules. Cation adduction was insignificant in this screen although some solute and target dependent acetate adduction was observed. The ion trap mass spectrometer provided sufficient mass resolution to identify complexes of RNA with known components of the library. Converted mass spectral data (netCDF) were subjected to two types of statistical evaluation based on binding. The first algorithm identified noncovalent complexes that correlated with the molecular weights of the injected compounds. The second yielded the largest peak in the noncovalent complex region of the spectrum; this spectrum may or may not correlate with expected well components. Sixty-three compounds were confirmed to bind by more stringent secondary testing. Titrations, which were carried out with selected binding compounds, yielded a range of dissociation constants. Biological activity was observed for eleven confirmed binders.  相似文献
