Solubilization environment afforded by several of the novel allyl glycidyl ether-modified methylhydrosiloxane polymers are investigated using a common polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon fluorescence probe, pyrene. The backbone of the polymer has been modified by the addition of an alkyl chain of varying length (either C8, C12, or C18) and to differing degrees of substitution. The nomenclature adopted for the purposes of these studies is as follows: "AGENT" represents the backbone polymer with no alkyl substitution, and "OAGENT", "DAGENT", and "SAGENT" are substituted with n-octyl, n-dodecyl, and n-octadecyl, respectively. The percentage of alkyl substitution is designated as 10, 15, and 20%. The pyrene polarity scale (defined as the ratio of the intensity of peak I to peak III) was used to determine the relative dipolarity of the cybotactic region provided by approximately 1 w/w% aqueous polymer solutions compared to 10 mM sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) micellar solution. Results indicate that 10-15% DAGENT afforded the most hydrophobic solubilization site, followed by 15% OAGENT and 15% SAGENT. In addition, as the degree of alkyl substitution of DAGENT increased from 10 to 20%, the cybotactic region appeared to become more hydrophobic. Furthermore, a deeper investigation into the relative size of the solubilization site revealed that all alkyl-substituted polymers promoted excimer formation at relatively low pyrene concentrations, indicating the possibility of localized concentration enhancement within the solvation pockets and/or compartmentalization of the solute molecules. The pyrene fluorescence excitation data strongly indicates ground-state heterogeneity that is most prominent in AGENT and decreases as the alkyl chain length is increased. This provides a relative sense of the size and shape of the solvation pockets afforded by each polymer solution. An overall analysis of the collected data indicated that these alkyl-substituted polymers may provide a more selective and efficient pseudostationary phase in electrokinetic chromatography with better solvation capacity for hydrophobic compounds compared to SDS.  相似文献

Two-dimensional patterned and controlled polyelectrolyte aggregations (e.g., tree-like ramified structures) created by microcontact printing have been demonstrated and discussed. Polyelectrolyte-micropatterned aggregations on surfaces were controlled by the micropattern size and shape of PDMS stamps. The formation of aggregates was dependent on the ink and surface conditions, and the aggregates consisted of two distinct layers; strongly adsorbed, primary uniform layers and weakly adsorbed, secondary aggregation layers positioned on top of the primary layers. The adsorption of the primary layers was strong enough not to be washed away, while the aggregated secondary layers were easily removed by washing. The aggregation of secondary layers showed typical tree-like ramified structures of fractal growth and aggregation. Directional and confined stamping led to directing and confining the growth of the fractal polyelectrolyte clusters, respectively. The micropatterned primary uniform layers were not removed by extensive washing, and they were identified by selective nickel plating and charged particle selective adsorption in which the surface formed positive and negative micropatterns. These functional and patterned surfaces have great potentials for advanced devices and sensors.  相似文献

Summary Optically pure (+)-beta-eudesmol is a possible starting material for the synthesis of several termite defense compounds. A two step procedure for the isolation of gram quantities of (+)-beta-eudesmol from commercially availableAmyris balsamifera oil (syn. West Indian sandalwood oil), containing 8% beta-eudesmol, was developed. Step one consisted of an efficient vacuum distillation of the total oil. Step two was a medium pressure LC separation with an AgNO3 impregnated silica gel stationary phase. Several other separation procedures failed due to the presence of many closely related sesquiterpene alcohols (75% of the oil).  相似文献

We present preliminary evidence for catalytic activity by unsupported mixed metal oxide nanocrystalline materials. The results of this study show that a nanophase form of Li-MgO has begun to exhibit catalytic activity by 300 °C. This is at least 200 degrees below the temperature at which conventional Li-MgO catalysts exhibit comparable activity. Furthermore, at higher temperatures, the same nanophase composition shows enhanced activities and somewhat improved hydrocarbon selectivities over conventional Li-MgO catalysts.  相似文献

The Sinus-6, a high-power relativistic repetitively-pulsed electron beam accelerator, is used to drive various slow wave structures in a BWO configuration in vacuum. Peak output power of about 550 MW at 9.45 GHz was radiated in an 8-ns pulse. We describe experiments which study the relative efficiencies of microwave generation from a two-stage nonuniform amplitude slow wave structure and its variations without an initial stage. Experimental results are compared with 2.5 D particle-in-cell computer simulations. Our results suggest that prebunching the electron beam in the initial section of the nonuniform BWO results in increased microwave generation efficiency, Furthermore, simulations reveal that, in addition to the backward propagating surface harmonic of the TM01 mode, backward and forward propagating volume harmonics with phase velocity twice that of the surface harmonic play an important role in high-power microwave generation and radiation  相似文献

Equivalent drag-reducing performance is observed with 3 M riblets in fully developed internal (pipe) and developing external (flat plate) flows. Drag reduction begins around h + = 3, peaks between 6 and 9% at about h + = 12, and becomes zero for a value of h + between 20 and 30. In laminar pipe flow no significant change in drag is observed with the 3 M riblets present. At high Reynolds numbers, after exhibiting fully rough behaviour, friction factors for the 3 M riblets are observed to monotonically decrease with increasing Reynolds number.  相似文献

Ionization of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes is improved by performing simultaneous chemical derivatization using 4-aminophenol to produce charged iminium ions during paper spray ionization. Accelerated reactions occur in the microdroplets generated during the paper spray ionization event for the tested aldehydes (formaldehyde, n-pentanaldehyde, n-nonanaldehyde, n-decanaldehyde, n-dodecanaldehyde, benzaldehyde, m-anisaldehyde, and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde). Tandem mass spectrometric analysis of the iminium ions using collision-induced dissociation demonstrated that straight chain aldehydes give a characteristic fragment at m/z 122 (shown to correspond to protonated 4-(methyleneamino)phenol), while the aromatic aldehyde iminium ions fragment to give a characteristic product ion at m/z 120. These features allow straightforward identification of linear and aromatic aldehydes. Quantitative analysis of n-nonaldehyde using a benchtop mass spectrometer demonstrated a linear response over 3 orders of magnitude from 2.5 ng to 5 μg of aldehyde loaded on the filter paper emitter. The limit of detection was determined to be 2.2 ng for this aldehyde. The method had a precision of 22%, relative standard deviation. The experiment was also implemented using a portable ion trap mass spectrometer.  相似文献
