The synthesis of poly(p‐phenylene methylene) (PPM)‐based block copolymers such as poly(p‐phenylene methylene)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) and poly(p‐phenylene methylene)‐b‐polytetrahydrofuran by mechanistic transformation was described. First, precursor PPM was synthesized by acid‐catalyzed polymerization of tribenzylborate at 16 °C. Then, this polymer was used as macroinitiators in either ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone or cationic ring‐opening polymerization of tetrahydrofuran to yield respective block copolymers. The structures of the prepolymer and block copolymers were characterized by GPC and 1H NMR investigations. The composition of block copolymers as determined by 1H NMR and TGA analysis was found to be in very good agreement. The thermal behavior and surface morphology of the copolymers were also investigated, respectively, by differential scanning calorimetry and atomic force microscopy measurements, and the contribution of the major soft segment has been observed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ultrasonically-aided extrusion of two thermotropic LCPs based on 6-oxy-2-naphthoyl and p-oxybenzoyl moieties (LCP1), and p-oxybenzoyl, terephthaloyl and hydroquinone moieties (LCP2) and their blends that are partially miscible was investigated. Ultrasonic treatment induced structural changes in the components, leading to improved mechanical properties of LCP1 moldings, and degradation of LCP2. Also, the ultrasonic treatment was found to further improve the partial miscibility of the blends. Although LCP1 and LCP2 behaved differently under ultrasonic treatment, synergistic effects on fibrillation and mechanical properties of blends were observed in injection moldings. Mechanical properties of melt spun fibers of blends lied between those of the components. Lack of synergism in mechanical properties of fibers was primarily attributed to saturation of LCP2 orientation at low draw down ratios in fiber spinning.  相似文献

This study investigates appointment systems (AS), as combinations of access rules and appointment-scheduling rules, explicitly designed for dealing with walk-in seasonality. In terms of ‘access rules’, strategies are tested for adjusting capacity through intra-week, or monthly seasonality of walk-ins, or their combined effects. In terms of ‘appointment rules’, strategies are tested to determine which particular slots to double-book or leave open in cases where seasonal walk-in rates exceed or fall short of the overall yearly rate. In that regard, this study integrates capacity and appointment decisions, which are usually addressed in an isolated manner in previous studies. Simulation optimization is used to derive heuristic solutions to the appointment-scheduling problem, and the findings are compared in terms of in-clinic measures of patient wait time, physician idle time and overtime. The goal is to provide practical guidelines for healthcare practitioners on how to best design their AS when seasonal walk-ins exist.  相似文献

Non-zero dispersion fiber (NZDF) ribbon cable has recently become a considerable alternative in long-haul high-speed network construction. Since long-distance high-bit rate transmission requires low polarization mode dispersion (PMD), it is very important to know the PMD performance of this type of optical fiber cables. In this paper, we report experimental analysis of effects of the cable design and environmental parameters, in particular ribbon thickness, positions of fibers in the ribbon, flexing and vibration, on PMD performances of several slotted-core fiber ribbon cables. Results show that ribbon thickness and positions of fibers in the ribbon alter the PMD values of NZDF ribbon cables. Also, 23% and 11% PMD variations have been determined in flexing and vibration experiments, respectively. Moreover, it has been observed that vibration amplitude has significant effects and vibration frequency has little effects (14% and 6% variations, respectively) on fiber PMD. Results are important for understanding effects of installation conditions and wind, especially for aerial fibers, on PMD values of cables.  相似文献

The MeOH extracts of wood and bark from Quercus hartwissiana have been investigated by GC-MS after derivatization, as well as by classical spectroscopic methods. The results for the free compounds revealed that ellagic acid, catechin, gallic acid, quercitol, and also long chain fatty acids, sugars, and sitosterol were the essential compounds in wood and bark, most of them being present in differing amounts. Quercitol, a characteristic compound for the oak wood tannin, was also recognized and determined in oak bark extracts in this study. Amounting to 1/4th to 1/3rd of the free compounds, the bark had the highest catechin content. While the content of sugars, such as fructose and glucose, increased in sapwood and bark extracts remarkably, the amounts of these compounds decreased in extracts of heartwood. The profile of the bound compounds contained sugars (i.e., arabinose, xylose, and, above all, glucose), ellagic and gallic acids, quercitols, and inositols. Compared with the composition of free compounds, the hydrolyzed extracts showed relatively higher amounts of sugars, especially glucose, gallic acid and quercitol.  相似文献

We develop an approach to tuning of penalized regression variable selection methods by calculating the sparsest estimator contained in a confidence region of a specified level. Because confidence intervals/regions are generally understood, tuning penalized regression methods in this way is intuitive and more easily understood by scientists and practitioners. More importantly, our work shows that tuning to a fixed confidence level often performs better than tuning via the common methods based on Akaike information criterion (AIC), Bayesian information criterion (BIC), or cross-validation (CV) over a wide range of sample sizes and levels of sparsity. Additionally, we prove that by tuning with a sequence of confidence levels converging to one, asymptotic selection consistency is obtained, and with a simple two-stage procedure, an oracle property is achieved. The confidence-region-based tuning parameter is easily calculated using output from existing penalized regression computer packages. Our work also shows how to map any penalty parameter to a corresponding confidence coefficient. This mapping facilitates comparisons of tuning parameter selection methods such as AIC, BIC, and CV, and reveals that the resulting tuning parameters correspond to confidence levels that are extremely low, and can vary greatly across datasets. In this study, we have investigated the effect of substituting Mn for Fe on the crystallization kinetics of amorphous Fe73.5−xMnxCu1Nb3Si13.5B9 (x = 1, 3, 5, 7) alloys. The samples were annealed at 550 °C and 600 °C for 1 h under an argon atmosphere. The X-ray diffraction analyses showed only a crystalline peak belonging to the α-Fe(Si) phase, with the grain size ranging from 12.2 nm for x = 0 to 16.7 nm for x = 7. The activation energies of the alloys were calculated using Kissinger, Ozawa and Augis-Bennett models based on differential thermal analysis data. The Avrami exponent n was calculated from the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation. The activation energy increased up to x = 3, then decreased with increasing Mn content. The values of the Avrami exponent showed that the crystallization is typical diffusion-controlled three-dimensional growth at a constant nucleation rate.  相似文献

Recent studies in the agronomic field indicate that the exogenous application of polyphenols can provide tolerance against various stresses in plants. However, the molecular processes underlying stress mitigation remain unclear, and little is known about the impact of exogenously applied phenolics, especially in combination with salinity. In this work, the impacts of exogenously applied chlorogenic acid (CA), hesperidin (HES), and their combination (HES + CA) have been investigated in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) through untargeted metabolomics to evaluate mitigation effects against salinity. Growth parameters, physiological measurements, leaf relative water content, and osmotic potential as well as gas exchange parameters were also measured. As expected, salinity produced a significant decline in the physiological and biochemical parameters of lettuce. However, the treatments with exogenous phenolics, particularly HES and HES + CA, allowed lettuce to cope with salt stress condition. Interestingly, the treatments triggered a broad metabolic reprogramming that involved secondary metabolism and small molecules such as electron carriers, enzyme cofactors, and vitamins. Under salinity conditions, CA and HES + CA distinctively elicited secondary metabolism, nitrogen-containing compounds, osmoprotectants, and polyamines.  相似文献
