Acetylene weak bands at 2.5 μm from intracavity Cr:ZnSe laser absorption observed with time-resolved Fourier transform spectroscopy

The spectral dynamics of a mid-infrared multimode Cr(2+):ZnSe laser located in a vacuum sealed chamber containing acetylene at low pressure is analyzed by a stepping-mode high-resolution time-resolved Fourier transform interferometer. Doppler-limited absorption spectra of C(2)H(2) in natural isotopic abundance are recorded around 4000 cm(-1) with kilometric absorption path lengths and sensitivities better than 3 10(-8) cm(-1). Two cold bands are newly identified and assigned to the ν(1)+ν(4) (1) and ν(3)+ν(5) (1) transitions of (12)C(13)CH(2). The ν(1)+ν(5) (1) band of (12)C(2)HD and fourteen (12)C(2)H(2) bands are observed, among which for the first time ν(2)+2ν(4) (2)+ν(5) (-1).     

Calculation of the vortex pinning energy in a long periodically modulated Josephson contact

An analytical method for evaluating the Josephson and magnetic energies of a vortex, as well as the vortex pinning energy and its components, in a long periodically modulated Josephson contact is suggested. The method allows one to take into account the variation of the vortex shape with the position of the vortex. The results obtained with this method are much closer to those of exact computer analysis compared with results of the conventional techniques. The discrepancy between the exact shape of the vortex and a function obtained by solving a differential equation approximating the exact difference equation is studied.     

Furan acetal compounds

A method was developed for the preparation of amino derivatives of 1,3-dioxanes of the furan series by amalgam reduction of the corresponding nitro compounds. Synthesis,structure, and stereochemistry of 2-alkyl-4,4,5-trimethyl- and 2-alkyl-4,4,6,6-tetramethyl-1,3-dioxanium perchlorates

A number of 2-alkyl-4,4,5-trimethyl- and 2-alkyl-4,4,6,6-tetramethyl-1,3-dioxanium perchlorates were obtained by acylation of 1,3-diols in the presence of 70% perchloric acid. Acid-catalytic cleavage of the heteroring with subsequent cyclization to 2-alkyl-1,3-dioxanium perchlorates occur in the reaction of 2-aryl(alkyl)-substituted and 2-unsubstituted 1,3-dioxanes with carboxylic acid anhydrides and 70% HClO₄. Hypothetical detachment of a hydride ion by means of the acceptor acylium cation does not occur under the investigated conditions. The structures of the synthesized perchlorates were studied by PMR spectroscopy and it was shown that 1,3-dioxanium cations at room temperature exist in a state of rapid conformational isomerization of the chair-chair form. The rate of interconversion of the 2,4,4-trimethyl-1,3-dioxanium cation decreases appreciably as the temperature is reduced to –90°. as evidenced by marked broadening of the lines of the protons of the gemdimethyl groupings.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 2, pp. 182–186, February, 1977.     

Growth and characterization of Mn- and Co-doped ZnO nanowires

A flow injection chemiluminescence method is proposed for the determination of cobalt, based on the strong catalytic effect of Cobalt(II) (1,10-phenanthroline)₃ complex on the lucigenin-periodate reaction in alkaline medium. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the chemiluminescence signal responded linearly to the concentration of cobalt(II) in the 1.0 × 10⁻⁹–3.0 × 10⁻⁷ g mL⁻¹ range with a detection limit of 4.4 × 10⁻¹⁰ g mL⁻¹ cobalt(II). The relative standard deviation for the determination of 5.0 × 10⁻⁸ g mL⁻¹ of cobalt was 2.3% in eleven replicated measurements. The method was successfully applied to the determination of cobalt(II) in pharmaceutical preparations.     

Effect of the composition of the immobilized copper-containing ionic liquid on the dodecyl mercaptan oxidation kinetics

Basic kinetic parameters of the catalytic oxidation of dodecyl mercaptan in kerosene in the presence of silica-immobilized pyridinium or imidazolium chlorocuprate complexes have been determined. The composition of the copper-containing anions and the oxidation kinetics depend on the nature of the ionic liquid and on the method of its synthesis. The compositions developed in this study are usable in the removal of hydrogen sulfide and light mercaptans from the oil stripping gas.     

Hysteresis in the behavior of a long periodically modulated Josephson junction in a magnetic field for not small values of the pinning parameter

The magnetization curve for a long periodically modulated Josephson junction is calculated using the approach based on analysis of the continuous change in the configuration in the direction of the decrease in the Gibbs potential upon cyclic variation of the external magnetic field for not small values of pinning parameter I. It is shown that unlike in the case of small I, when the hysteresis loop is a part of a certain universal curve, the segments of the loops corresponding to a decrease in h in the first and second quadrants (and symmetric to them) pass below the universal loop, the degree of deviation increasing with pinning parameter I. The properties of the hysteresis loops are considered for various amplitudes of the magnetic field variation on the basis of analysis of vortex configurations.
