Polarized light leads to an effective reorientation of the optic axis in the glassy state of liquid-crystalline side chain polymers containing azobenzene mesogenic groups, via a trans-cis and cis-trans isomerization. Using a combination of U V and IR dichroitic studies it is shown for copolymers consisting of chromophores (azobenzene) and non-chromophores (phenylbenzoate) that only the chromophores are reoriented by light as far as the glassy state is concerned. Individual chromophores are thus addressed by photoselection. Photoselection in the fluid nematic state, on the other hand, leads also to a reorientation of the non-chromophores.  相似文献

It is shown unequivocally by chemical correlations (cf. Schemes 1--3) and Raman optical activity spectra (cf. Fig. 1 and 2) that the (R)-configuration has to be attributed to (+)-1-methylindane ((+)- 1 ). This is in contradiction to an earlier assignment of the (R)-configuration to (?)- 1 [2] which was based on the (R)-configuration of (+)-indane-1-carboxylic acid ( 3 ) [11].  相似文献

We consider, both for unpolarized and longitudinally polarized electron beams, the reaction $e^ + e^ - \to t\bar t$ with subsequent semileptonict and nonleptonic $\bar t$ decay and vice versa and investigate optimized angular correlations which are sensitive to CP non-conservation in the $t\bar t$ production vertex. We calculate these correlations for two-Higgs-doublet extensions and the minimal super-symmetric extension of the Standard Model (SM) with CP violation beyond the Kobayashi-Maskawa phase. While the sensitivity of the optimal correlation for tracing dispersive CP effects is enhanced with longitudinally polarized electron beams, we find that the sensitivity of the best correlation for probing absorptive CP effects is almost independent of the polarization degree.  相似文献

Using a version of density-functional theory which combines Onsager approximation and fundamental-measure theory for spatially nonuniform phases, we have studied the phase diagram of freely rotating hard rectangles and hard discorectangles. We find profound differences in the phase behavior of these models, which can be attributed to their different packing properties. Interestingly, bimodal orientational distribution functions are found in the nematic phase of hard rectangles, which cause a certain degree of biaxial order, albeit metastable with respect to spatially ordered phases. This feature is absent in discorectangles, which always show unimodal behavior. This result may be relevant in the light of recent experimental results which have confirmed the existence of biaxial phases. We expect that some perturbation of the particle shapes (either a certain degree of polydispersity or even bimodal dispersity in the aspect ratios) may actually destabilize spatially ordered phases thereby stabilizing the biaxial phase.  相似文献

Preparation and Crystal Structure of LnAl3Br12 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd) and Thermal Decomposition to LnBr3 LnAl3Br12 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd) was prepared in crystalline form for the first time. The crystal structures of LaAl3Br12, PrAl3Br12, and NdAl3Br12 were determined on single crystals by X-ray methods. The isotypic compounds crystallize with trigonal symmetry, space group P 3112, Z = 3. A structural comparison to lanthanoide chloroaluminates of equal composition is given and thermal decomposition of LnAl3Br12 (Ln = Nd) to the corresponding lanthanoide tribromide is described.  相似文献

We report an improved synthesis of bis(5,7,3',4'-tetra-O-benzyl)epicatechin 4beta,8-dimer (3) from 5,7,3',4'-tetra-O-benzylepicatechin (1) and 5,7,3',4'-tetra-O-benzyl-4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)epicatechin (2) by replacing the previously employed Lewis acid, titanium tetrachloride, with the clay mineral Bentonite K-10. Under the same conditions, the benzyl-protected all-4beta,8-trimer, -tetramer, and -pentamer were obtained regioselectively from their lower homologues, albeit in rapidly decreasing yields. Reaction of 2 with an organoaluminum thiolate generated from 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and trimethylaluminum followed by acetylation produced 3-O-acetyl-4-[(2-benzothiazolyl)thio]-5,7,3',4'-tetra-O-benzylepicatechin (12). Medium-sized protected oligomers with 4beta,8-interflavan linkages are obtained in improved yields by using this compound as the electrophile and silver tetrafluoroborate as activator and are isolated by reversed-phase HPLC. Their deprotection by ester saponification followed by hydrogenolysis yielded the free procyanidins, which were characterized as their peracetates. The synthetic procyanidins are identical by normal-phase HPLC with fractions isolated from cocoa. The principle of chain extension by two members was demonstrated using a dimeric electrophile obtained by self-condensation of compound 12. Both the synthetic and natural pentamer 32 inhibit the growth of several breast cancer cell lines. Using the MDA MB 231 line, it was established that this outcome is based on the induction of cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase. Subsequent cell death is more likely necrotic rather than apoptotic. Control experiments demonstrate that the polyphenol itself, rather than hydrogen peroxide potentially formed by its autoxidation, is the causative agent.  相似文献
