Coordination chemistry of new sulphur containing ligands—26. Eight coordinate vanadium(IV) and molybdenum(IV) complexes of 2-amino-1-cyclopentenedithiocarboxylate1

The new difunction ligand, 2-amino-1-cyclopentenedithio-carboxylate(L), was prepared and its coordination chemistry examined to gain further insight into the reactivity of “aromatic” dithio type ligands. Reaction with MoCl₄py₂ and VOSO₄, led to the surprising eight coordinate products ML₄. The sp² hybridization of the ring carbon to which the CS₂ moiety is bonded apparently yields a pseudo-aromatic effect on the reactivity of this ligand. The physical properties of these new compounds are discussed.     

Hard-sphere binary-collision operators

The time displacement operator is described for a system of hard-sphere particles. We show how to avoid needing a representation for this operator in unphysical regions of phase space, and how to construct a useful representation in terms of binary collision operators in the physical region. The various binary collision operators used for hard-sphere systems are derived for the case of a system of two spheres, and the results are generalized toN-particle systems.Dedicated to Prof. E. G. Motion of a cylindrical cavity near a free boundary of a liquid

The dynamics of a cylindrical cavity in a liquid with no allowance for vertical displacement are considered in [1–3]. Collision of a long DNA molecule with an isolated nanowire

We provide an experimental test of the universal behavior arising in simulations of the electrophoretic collision of a long DNA molecule with an isolated, thin post. Our experiments take advantage of a robust protocol to embed matrices of circa 100 nm radius ZnO nanowires in a microfluidic channel. The density and height of the nanowires are easily controlled by the seeding and growth conditions. Single-molecule videomicroscopy of λ-DNA electrophoresis in a sparse nanowire array shows that the average holdup time decays exponentially with the impact parameter, in agreement with simulations. Only at the largest electric field studied here does the hooking probability approach that for an infinitesimally thin post.
