Inelastic interactions of electrons with surfaces of ionic crystals result in emission of various particles such as ions, atoms and molecules. We will review such electron-stimulated desorption processes for the particular class of ionic crystals, namely for alkali halides. In this case, a dominant fraction of the emission is in the form of halogen and alkali atoms characterized by a thermal (Maxwellian) spectrum of translational energies. For several alkali halides (potassium and rubidium chlorides, bromides, and iodides), however, a significant part of the halogen atoms is ejected with nonthermal energies, i.e. energies of the order of 0.1 eV. The results of recent systematic studies of angular-resolved kinetic energy distributions of the emitted particles will be reported and current views on the electronic mechanisms of desorption will be described. In particular, it will be shown that the ESD mechanism can be understood in terms of the model involving a surface localisation of the so called “hot-holes” created by electron bombardment of alkali halides. A role of hot holes in ESD processes will further be discussed in relation to very recent experimental results obtained for the KBr crystals doped with In impurities which act as efficient hole traps.  相似文献

We have investigated the n×6 reconstructed GaAs(0 0 1) surface with scanning tunneling and non-contact atomic force microscopy techniques (STM/nc-AFM). For the first time atomically resolved nc-AFM images of that surface are shown. The images confirm the presence of rows of arsenic dimers in the topmost layer as predicted by the current model of n×6 reconstructed surface. However, in contrast to previous reports we found that postulated As dimer sites are not fully occupied. Moreover, the images suggest that ×6 symmetry is present on the surface even in absence of the dimers. We show that due to probing of different surface properties nc-AFM and STM are complementary tools for complex surfaces investigation.  相似文献

The dependence of the surface morphology on the substrate temperature during film deposition was investigated for polyethylene glycol (PEG) films by matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE). The surface structure was studied with a combined technique of optical imaging and AFM measurements. There was a clear difference between the films produced below and above the melting point of PEG. For temperatures above the melting point, the polymer material was distributed non-uniformly over the substrate with growths areas, where cluster-like structures merge into large islands of micrometer size. At these temperatures, the islands in the investigated growth areas cover most of the bottom layer which has a typical height of 50-150 nm.  相似文献

The purpose of this review is to present an overview of the development of photodiagnostic and photodynamic therapy (PDD and PDT) techniques in Poland. The paper discusses the principles of PDD, including fluorescent techniques in determining precancerous conditions and cancers of the skin, digestive tract, bladder and respiratory tract. Methods of PDT of cancer will be discussed and the current state of knowledge as well as future trends in the development of photodynamic techniques will be presented, including the possibility of using photodynamic antimicrobial therapy. Research pioneers in photodynamic medicine such as Thomas Dougherty are an inspiration for the development of methods of PDD and PDT in our Clinic. The Center for Laser Diagnostics and Therapy in Bytom, Poland, promotes the propagation of PDD and PDT through the training of clinicians and raising awareness among students in training and the general public. Physicians at the Center are engaged in photomedical research aimed at clinical implementation and exploration of new avenues in photomedicine while optimizing existing modalities. The Center promotes dissemination of clinical results from a wide range of topics in PDD and PDT and serving as representative authorities of photodynamic medicine in Poland and Europe.  相似文献

The empirical 1/f noise model for p\(^{+}\)-p-n infrared detector made of type-II InAs/GaSb superlattice material is presented. It is shown that 1/f noise magnitude can be accurately estimated if dark current contributions are determined and noise coefficients are known. It is found that the shunt, the bulk generation–recombination, and the trap-assisted tunneling currents contribute to the total 1/f noise. No 1/f noise connected with the diffusion and the band-to-band tunneling currents is observed.  相似文献

This paper presents a review of recent experimental and theoretical work on surface modification of alkali halides due to electronic excitations caused by electron and photon irradiation. In particular, several examples of free exciton and hot electron–hole pair formation in ionic materials are given. It is demonstrated that evolution of these primary excitations with subsequent defect formation and diffusion from the bulk to the surface, leads to dynamic surface modification and sputtering, often periodically varying with the irradiation dose. In turn, modification of the surface topography could affect and modulate periodically, the diffusion processes driving the defects from the bulk of the material towards its surface. Spectacular examples of such oscillatory yield dependencies, and corresponding surface nano-structure formation and evolution, are shown for electron- and photon-irradiated NaCl, KBr and KCl(0 0 1) surfaces of bulk crystals and thin epitaxial films. Important applications of these findings for quantitative characterisation of insulator surfaces and mass spectrometry are presented.  相似文献

A convenient, large-scale synthesis of the antibiotic pyoluteorin, 2,3-dichloro-5-(2′,6′-dihydroxybenzoyl)-pyrrole ( 1 ), is described. A key step in the synthesis involved a Friedel-Crafts aroylation of pyrrole with 2,6-dimethoxybenzoyl chloride ( 3 ) in methylene chloride. The desired intermediate, 2-(2′,6′-dimethoxybenzoyl)pyrrole ( 4 ), was obtained as the major product, along with a product of beta substitution ( 6 ). Compound 4 was converted to pyoluteroin ( 1 ) in four steps in an overall yield of 51%.  相似文献
