We report a highly-efficient, high-power, single-frequency Nd:YVO4 master-oscillator power-amplifier with near-diffraction-limited output beam quality. A diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 ring laser incorporating a passive method for suppressing axial-mode-hopping was employed as the master-oscillator, and was amplified by a three-stage diode-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 amplifier, yielding 79 W of output with an extraction efficiency of 29%. The overall power gain was 15 dB for an input power from the master-oscillator of 2.4 W, and the M2 parameter was less than 1.5 at the maximum power. The last decade has seen increasing interest in techniques for the enhancement of digital speech signals. Significant gains have been made in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and quality, but few techniques have produced improvements in intelligibility. A method for speech enhancement based on nonlinear expansion of the spectral envelope is presented. The expansion is consistent with both the long-term spectrum of the speech and with the probability that speech is present in a given sample. Objective SNR measures are used to compare this algorithm with the well-known spectral subtraction method, with an alternative expansion scheme, and with limiting SNRs resulting from perfect recovery of the amplitude spectrum. For the purpose of intelligibility assessments, a simplified version of the algorithm has been implemented on a Texas Instruments TMS320-C25 system. Listening trials with this real-time system, conducted using a modified rhyme test, have produced small, but consistent, improvements in articulation scores. 相似文献

We discuss inhomogeneous cosmological models which satisfy the Copernican principle. We construct some inhomogeneous cosmological models starting from the ansatz that the all the observers in the models view an isotropic cosmic microwave background. We discuss multi-fluid models, and illustrate how more general inhomogeneous models may be derived, both in General Relativity and in scalar-tensor theories of gravity. Thus we illustrate that the cosmologicalprinciple, the assumption that the Universe we live in is spatially homogeneous, does not necessarily follow from the Copernican principle and the high isotropy of the cosmic microwave background. Two C-lactosyl lipids and the related C-galactosyl lipids have been synthesised and their binding to RCA120 plant lectin was compared with a second series of thiolactosylethoxyalkanes. The interactions were measured quantitatively in real time by surface plasmon resonance (BIAcore) at a range of concentrations and temperatures from 5 to 30 degrees C. The C-galactosyl lipid (1,3-dimethyl-5-[beta-D-galactopyranosyl]-5-(4-octadecyloxybenzyl)pyrimidine-2,4,6-trione) bound much more weakly with a K(A) = 8.86 x 10(5) than the corresponding C-lactosyl lipid (1,3-dimethyl-5-[beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-5-(4-octadecyloxybenzyl)pyrimidine-2,4,6-trione) (K(A) = 2.31 x 10(7)). The influence of the linker region of the two different series of lactosyl lipids was clearly demonstrated by the differences in the binding to RCA120 lectin. The changes in kinetic values and in the enthalpic and entropic contribution to the free energy of binding reflected the importance of the linker and the hydrocarbon anchor holding the synthetic glycolipids in the neomembrane. 相似文献

In this paper we study symmetry reductions and exact solutions of the shallow water wave (SWW) equation $$u_{xxxt} + \alpha u_x u_{xt} + \beta u_t u_{xx} - u_{xt} - u_{xx} = 0,$$ whereα andβ are arbitrary, nonzero, constants, which is derivable using the so-called Boussinesq approximation. Two special cases of this equation, or the equivalent nonlocal equation obtained by settingu x =U, have been discussed in the literature. The caseα=2β was discussed by Ablowitz, Kaup, Newell and Segur (Stud. Appl. Math.,53 (1974), 249), who showed that this case was solvable by inverse scattering through a second-order linear problem. This case and the caseα=β were studied by Hirota and Satsuma (J. Phys. Soc. Japan,40 (1976), 611) using Hirota's bi-linear technique. Further, the caseα=β is solvable by inverse scattering through a third-order linear problem. In this paper, a catalogue of symmetry reductions is obtained using the classical Lie method and the nonclassical method due to Bluman and Cole (J. Math. Mech,18 (1969), 1025). The classical Lie method yields symmetry reductions of (1) expressible in terms of the first, third and fifth Painlevé transcendents and Weierstrass elliptic functions. The nonclassical method yields a plethora of exact solutions of (1) withα=β which possess a rich variety of qualitative behaviours. These solutions all like a two-soliton solution fort < 0 but differ radically fort > 0 and may be viewed as a nonlinear superposition of two solitons, one travelling to the left with arbitrary speed and the other to the right with equal and opposite speed. These families of solutions have important implications with regard to the numerical analysis of SWW and suggests that solving (1) numerically could pose some fundamental difficulties. In particular, one would not be able to distinguish the solutions in an initial-value problem since an exponentially small change in the initial conditions can result in completely different qualitative behaviours. We compare the two-soliton solutions obtained using the nonclassical method to those obtained using the singular manifold method and Hirota's bi-linear method. Further, we show that there is an analogous nonlinear superposition of solutions for two (2+1)dimensional generalisations of the SWW Equation (1) withα=β. This yields solutions expressible as the sum of two solutions of the Korteweg-de Vries equation. 相似文献

The conformational isomerization dynamics of melatonin and 5-methoxy N-acetyltryptophan methyl amide (5-methoxy NATMA) have been studied using the methods of IR-UV hole-filling spectroscopy and IR-induced population transfer spectroscopy. Using these techniques, single conformers of melatonin were excited via a well-defined NH stretch fundamental with an IR pump laser. This excess energy was used to drive conformational isomerization. By carrying out the infrared excitation early in a supersonic expansion, the excited molecules were re-cooled into their zero-point levels, partially re-filling the hole created in the ground state population of the excited conformer, and creating gains in population of the other conformers. These changes in population were detected using laser-induced fluorescence downstream in the expansion via an UV probe laser. The isomerization quantum yields for melatonin show some conformation specificity but no hint of vibrational mode specificity. In 5-methoxy NATMA, no isomerization was observed out of the single conformational well populated in the expansion in the absence of the infrared excitation. In order to study the dependence of the isomerization on the cooling rate, the experimental arrangement was modified so that faster cooling conditions could be studied. In this arrangement, the pump and probe lasers were overlapped in space in the high density region of the expansion, and the time dependence of the zero-point level populations of the conformers was probed following selective excitation of a single conformation. The analysis needed to extract isomerization quantum yields from the timing scans was developed and applied to the melatonin timing scans. Comparison between the frequency and time domain isomerization quantum yields under identical experimental conditions produced similar results. Under fast cooling conditions, the product quantum yields were shifted from their values under standard conditions. The results for melatonin are compared with those for N-acetyl tryptophan methyl amide. 相似文献
