The subject of this paper is a characterization of the -definable set functions of Kripke-Platek set theory with infinity and a uniform version of axiom of choice: . This class of functions is shown to coincide with the collection of set functionals of type 1 primitive recursive in a given choice functional and . Irradiation of 1-(3,4-dioxopentyl)uracil (UPD) and 1-(3.4-dioxopentyl)thymine (TPD) in acetonitrile solution at 25°C, at the wavelength (280 nm) where only the pyrimidine absorbs the light, sensitizes both fluorescence and phosphorescence of the diketone chromophore in the sidechain. From comparison of the intensity in the corrected excitation spectra with the absorption spectra in acetonitrile solution, it was estimated that the yield of singlet energy transfer in UPD was 0.17 and in TPD was 0.44. It was also observed that the ratio of phosphorescence to fluorescence was greater in the sensitized emission than in that from direct excitation of the diketone chromophore. The yield of triplet energy transfer thus measured corresponds to minimum values for the yields of intersystem crossing from singlet excited state to triplet excited state of 0.075 in the uracil chromophore of UPD and of 0.14 in the thymine chromophore of TPD. These are in agreement with other recent values for these quantities. The value of this type of system as an intramolecular triplet counter is discussed.  相似文献

In non-destructive assay there exist techniques founded on physics principles and experimental design for which the quantity of interest yTrue to be estimated is expected to vary in direct proportion to the true value xTrue of the experimentally observed predictor quantity x. In other words, the calibration is a straight line passing through the origin, so that the assay method is fully described by a single parameter, the slope. In principle a single reference item is sufficient to estimate the slope. However, there are good reasons for including more than a single item in the calibration procedure. When multiple items are used questions arise regarding how to make best use of all the available calibration data in estimating the slope. This paper shows that the usual weighted least squares curve fitting approach can be circumvented by using only the familiar notion of a weighted arithmetic mean. In particular we draw attention to the ease with which uncertainties in both x and y can be incorporated using this simple and direct approach. Moreover the uncertainty in the calibration parameter is estimated using familiar techniques and with an appropriate magnitude for subsequent use, for instance, in setting reasonable uncertainties on assay results performed using the calibration. For completeness, weighted least squares accounting for nonzero covariances among the measurements y of yTrue together with an errors in predictors approach accounting for errors in x is also presented.  相似文献

Measurements from instruments are sometimes censored at or below the instrument’s lower or upper limit of detection because the instruments have a calibrated response only over a certain data range. Near the ends of the range, the system reports a censored value such as “measurand value is less than threshold,” or “measurand value is more than threshold.” How should one analyze data that includes such “less than” and/or “more than” results and what is the impact of such censoring on estimation of variance components? To answer these two questions, this article makes three contributions: (1) It illustrates a straightforward numerical Bayesian analysis of such censored data based on the likelihood function, (2) it provides a simulation study to show the impact of increased amounts of censoring, and (3) it shows that if the true likelihood has an unknown form for measurand values near the threshold and another known form away from the threshold, then it is prudent for the measurement system to report censored values rather than actual values. Open source software to analyze censored data is provided as supplementary material.  相似文献

In the past decade Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has emerged as a powerful technique for the analysis of artistic, historical and archaeological material culture. However, the identification of organic compounds in complex samples using SERS can be challenging owing to the complexity in optimizing the adsorption of target analytes onto the plasmonic substrate and the difficulty to identify proper areas on the sample for robust SERS analysis using optical systems. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) interfaced with Raman spectromicroscopy (μRS) provides an ideal hyphenated system to overcome the last challenge by: (1) evaluating the nanoparticles coverage/distribution on the sample and (2) locating suitable areas for successful and reproducible SERS analysis. In this paper we demonstrate the potential of a system interfacing SEM and μRS for single fiber, extractionless analysis in the characterization of dyes from reference collections and archaeological textiles. One thousand volume holographic data pages, each containing 1x10(6)pixels , are stored in a common volume of LiNbO(3) :Fe by use of the 90 degrees geometry. An effective transverse aperture of 1.6 mm x 1.6mm , realized by repetition of this experiment at each of the eight surrounding locations, results in a demonstrated areal density of 394pixels/mum (2) (254 Gpixels/in. (2)) . Short-focal-length Fourier optics provide a tightly confined object beam at the crystal; the reference beam is angle multiplexed. Data pages retrieved with a 1024 x 1024 CCD camera are processed to remap bad spatial light modulator pixels and to compensate for global and local pixel misregistration and are then decoded with a strong 8-bits-from-12-pixels modulation code. The worst-case raw bit-error rate (BER) before error correction was 1.1x10(-3) , sufficient to deliver a user BER of 10(-12) at an overall code rate of 0.61 user bits per detector pixel. This result corresponds to 1.08% of the well-known theoretical volumetric density limit of 1/lambda(3) .  相似文献

We describe what we believe to be a novel postprocessing algorithm for compensating for misregistrations between a detector array and the coherent image of a pixelated two-dimensional data page. A lookup table of baseline local offsets is combined with the dynamically measured global offset of the received data page, producing an estimate of the total lateral shift of each small block of pixels. A serial algorithm then reallocates the appropriate portion of the signal detected by each pixel to its neighbors, accounting for both the linear and the quadratic contributions introduced by coherent illumination of square-law detectors. This procedure can relax the tight constraints on page registration, optical distortion, and material shrinkage that currently hamper page-oriented holographic storage systems. Experimental results from a pixel-matched 1-Mpixel volume holographic system are presented, showing an increase in position tolerance (for a raw bit-error rate <10(-3)) from +/-16% to +/-40% of the pixel pitch.  相似文献
