Pressure effects on 2p5 3p - 2p5 3d transitions in neon

The collisional broadening and shift of four spectral lines of neon (747.2, 748.8, 753.5, 754.4 nm) arising from 2p⁵ 3p - 2p⁵ 3d transitions, emitted from a low-pressure glow discharge in pure neon and neon-helium mixtures have been measured using a Fabry-Perot interferometer. The values of pressure broadening and shift coefficients are determined and analyzed in terms of the impact theory.     

A semiempirical estimate of stark shifts in Cu I

The quadratic Stark constants for the five lowest energy levels of Cu I have been estimated using a semiempirical method.     

The hyperfine and isotope structure of the Cd intercombination line – revisited

Careful analysis of the intercombination 5¹S₀–5³P₁ line of the ¹¹³Cd isotope with two hfs components and was carried out. The hyperfine splitting of this line was determined to uncertainty less than 10^-3 cm^-1 using neon-perturbed Doppler limited spectra.     

Electrophilic aromatic substitution in the curing of brominated poly(isobutylene-co-4-methylstyrene): A mechanistic model study with zinc salts

The crosslinking chemistry of a new elastomer based on brominated poly(isobutylene-co-4-methylstyrene) has been investigated using model compounds. In order to mimic the conditions that prevail within the highly allphatic rubber, the study was carried out in mineral oil using catalysts that are compatible with such low polarity media. Electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions occur in a system consisting of p-isopropylbenzyl bromide and p-isopropyl toluene in the presence of zinc oxide and zinc stearate. The reaction proceeds after a significant induction period while no induction period is seen for a similar reaction with zinc bromide as the catalyst. The in situ formation of reactive species containing Zn? Br bonds appears to be an important step in the overall process. The stoichiometric ratio of zinc salt to benzylic bromide is important. High ratios lead to the accumulation of benzylic stearate or benzylic alcohol in the system which retards the alkylation reaction. The model study emphasizes the importance of stoichiometry of reagents in this reaction and provides insight into the crosslinking mechanism. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Laser-induced fluorescence study of the influence of N <Emphasis Type="Bold">2</Emphasis> and CH <Emphasis Type="Bold">4</Emphasis> on the <Emphasis Type="Bold">114</Emphasis>Cd intercombination line

Using a laser-induced fluorescence method a detailed analysis of profiles of the ¹¹⁴Cd 326.1 nm line perturbed by N₂ and CH₄ was performed which revealed deviations from the ordinary Voigt profile. These deviations are shown to be consistent with fits of experimental profiles to an asymmetric Voigt profile. Coefficients of the pressure broadening, shift and collision-time asymmetry are determined and compared with those calculated for van der Waals interaction potential. A numerical method for separation of overlapping components of a spectral line

A simple method for separation of two overlapping spectral lines with the same intensity distribution is given. The method covers the case of spectrometers with periodical instrumental functions and gives explicit formulae for the intensity distribution of the components in selected points.     

A critical survey of atomic transition probabilities for CuI

A critical survey of experimentally-determined atomic transition probabilities for 102 spectral lines of CuI has been carried out. Many of the values have been brought up to date and renormalized on the basis of recent measurements.     

Low pressure broadening and shift of the 2p 53p-2p 56s neon spectral lines

Natural radiative lifetimes in the perturbed 6s n s ¹ D ₂ (n=12?30) sequence of barium have been measured using the PUMOLS (PUlse-MOdulated Laser Spectroscopy) method, which incorporates pulse-modulation of a CW dye-laser beam and delayed coincidence techniques. Principal perturbers are the 5d 7d ³ F ₂ and¹ D ₂ states. Lifetimes were also measured for these shortlived valence states, which through configuration mixing cause drastic decreases in lifetime values in the region of perturbation of the 6s n d ¹ D ₂ sequence. Two-step laser excitation from the ground 6s ^{2 1} S ₀ state via the 6s 6p ¹ P ₁ state was employed. Special care was taken to determine the influence of black-body radiation transitions on the measured lifetimes.
