The time delay experiment proposed by I.I. Shapiro in 1964 and conducted in the seventies was the most precise experiment of general relativity until that time. Further experimentation has improved the accuracy level of both the time delay and the light deflection experiments. A simulation model is proposed that involves only a simple mass and time transformation factor involving velocity of light. The light deflection and the time delay experiments are numerically simulated using this model that does not use the general relativistic equations. The computed values presented in this paper compare well with recent levels of accuracy of their respective experimental results.  相似文献

Very little information exists on the amount of natural and artificial UV light required to cause sunburn and tanning in individuals with very pale skin who are at the greatest risk of developing skin cancer. We have investigated minimal erythema dose (MED) and minimal melanogenic dose (MMD) in a group of 31 volunteers with Fitzpatrick skin types I and II using an Oriel 1000 W xenon arc solar simulator and natural sunlight in Sydney, Australia. We measured the erythemal and melanogenic responses using conventional visual scoring, a chromameter and an erythema meter. We found that the average MED measured visually using the artificial UV source was 68.7 +/- 3.3 mJ/cm2 (3.4 +/- 0.2 standard erythema doses [SED]), which was significantly different from the MED of sunlight, which was 93.6 +/- 5.6 mJ/cm2 (P < 0.001) (11.7 +/- 0.7 SED). We also found significant correlations between the solar-simulated MED values, the melanin index (erythema meter) and the L* function (chromameter). The average MMD (obtained in 16 volunteers only) using solar-simulated light was 85.6 +/- 4.9 mJ/cm2, which was significantly less than that measured with natural sunlight (118.3 +/- 8.6 mJ/cm2; P < 0.05). We mathematically modeled the data for both the chromameter and the erythema meter to see if we were able to obtain a more objective measure of MED and differentiation between skin types. Using this model, we were able to detect erythemal responses using the erythema index function of the erythema meter and the a* function of the chromameter at lower UV doses than either the standard visual or COLIPA methods.  相似文献

We present two new variants of Schur complement domain decompositionpreconditioners suitable for 2D anisotropic problems. Thesevariants are based on adaptations of the probing idea, describedby Chan et al (1992 Fifth Int. Symp. on Domain DecompositionMethods for Partial Differential Equations, Philadelphia: SIAM,pp 236-249), used in conjunction with a coarse grid approximationas introduced by Bramble et al (1986 Math. Comput. 47, 103-134).The new methods are specifically designed for situations wherethe coupling between neighbouring interfaces is stronger thanthe coupling within an interface. Taking into account this strongcoupling, one variant uses a multicolour probing technique toavoid distortion in the probe approximations that appear whenusing the method proposed by Chan et al. The second techniqueuses additional probe matrices to approximate not only the couplingwithin the interfaces but also the coupling between interfacepoints across the subdomains. This latter procedure looks somewhatlike an alternating line relaxation method for anisotropic problems,see Brandt (1977 Math. Comput.. 31, 333-390). To assess therelevance of the new preconditioners, we compare their numericalbehaviour with well known robust preconditioners such as thebalanced Neumann-Neumann method proposed by Mandel (1993 Commun.Numer. The ‘anomalous perihelion precession’ of Mercury, announced by Le Verrier in 1859, was a highly controversial topic for more than half a century and invoked many alternative theories until 1916, when Einstein presented his theory of general relativity as an alternative theory of gravitation and showed perihelion precession to be one of its potential manifestations. As perihelion precession was a directly derived result of the full General Theory and not just the Equivalence Principle, Einstein viewed it as the most critical test of his theory. This paper presents the computed value of the anomalous perihelion precession of Mercury's orbit using a new relativistic simulation model that employs a simple transformation factor for mass and time, proposed in an earlier paper. This computed value compares well with the prediction of general relativity and is, also, in complete agreement with the observed value within its range of uncertainty. No general relativistic equations have been used for computing the results presented in this paper.  相似文献

UV radiation suppresses delayed-type hypersensitivity responses to intradermally injected tuberculin purified protein derivative in Mantoux-positive individuals. The effect of the topically administered isoflavonoid NV-07alpha, a synthetic derivative of the isoflavonoid equol, on UV-induced suppression of Mantoux reactions was assessed in 18 healthy Mantoux-positive volunteers. A single, fixed dose of solar-simulated UV radiation was delivered to the volunteers' lower backs. Different concentrations of NV-07alpha or its vehicle were applied to different sites within the irradiated field immediately after UV exposure and again 24 h later. Forty-eight hours after irradiation, Mantoux testing was performed at both the irradiated sites and adjacent, unirradiated sites. The intensity of Mantoux reactions was measured 72 h later with a reflectance erythema meter and by measuring the diameter of each reaction. Although lower concentrations of NV-07alpha (0.5 and 2 mM) did not prevent UV immunosuppression, 4 mM NV-07alpha partially but significantly attenuated UV-induced suppression of Mantoux-induced erythema. Minimal erythema doses were also determined for sites treated with NV-07alpha or its vehicle immediately after UV exposure. NV-07alpha had no significant effects on UV erythema. We conclude that 4 mM NV-07alpha prevented the suppressive effects of UV radiation on Mantoux responses in humans but did not affect UV-induced erythema at the concentrations used.  相似文献

A sensitive and reliable high‐performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) was developed and validated for simultaneous quantification IC87114, roflumilast (RFM), and its active metabolite roflumilast N‐oxide (RFN) using tolbutamide as an internal standard. The analytes were extracted by using liquid–liquid extraction and separated on a reverse phase C18 column (50 mm × 3 mm i.d., 4.6 µ) using methanol: 2 mM ammonium acetate buffer, pH 4.0 as mobile phase at a flow rate 1 mL/min in gradient mode. Selective reaction monitoring was performed using the transitions m/z 398.3 > 145.9, 403.1 >186.9, 419.1 > 187.0 and 271.1 > 155.0 to quantify quantification IC87114, RFM, RFN and tolbutamide, respectively. The method was validated over the concentration range of 0.1–60 ng.mL?1 for RFM and RFN and 6 to 2980 ng.mL?1 for IC87114. Intra‐ and inter‐day accuracy and precision of validated method were within the acceptable limits of <15% at all concentrations. Coefficients of correlation (r2) for the calibration curves were >0.99 for all analytes. The quantitation method was successfully applied for simultaneous estimation of IC87114, RFM and RFN in a pharmacokinetic drug–drug interaction study in Wistar rats. This review of our work, presented at the Photocarcinogenesis Symposium of the 14th International Congress on Photobiology, shows that UV-A causes a similar number of gene mutations as UV-B in human skin cancer. Areas of about 20 keratinocytes from solar keratoses and squamous cell carcinomas, which are benign and malignant skin cancers, respectively, were sampled by laser capture microdissection. Automated sequencing of the p53 gene was used to detect mutations in these tumor areas, and the cause of the mutations was attributed on the basis of previously published studies. UV-A and UV-B caused similar numbers of p53 gene mutations in both benign and malignant human skin tumors, with UV-B-induced mutations being restricted to the upper areas of the tumors and UV-A-induced mutations predominating at the basal layer. Furthermore, each microdissected region within a tumor had distinct mutations showing that the skin tumors consisted of different clones of cells. This is not consistent with how human skin carcinogenesis is currently understood, and hypotheses to explain our data are presented. We propose that the UV-A waveband of sunlight is as important as UV-B in causing skin cancer in humans.  相似文献

Measurement of in vivo sunscreen immune protection factors in humans   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This study investigates the level of protection provided by sunscreens against solar-simulated UV radiation-induced immunosuppression in humans. The in vivo immune protection factors (IPF) of two broad-spectrum sunscreens were determined by assessing their ability to prevent UV-induced suppression of nickel contact hypersensitivity (CHS) in 15 nickel-allergic volunteers. Each volunteer was irradiated on unprotected skin of the back with different doses of UV daily for 4 days. Multiples of these UV doses were concurrently delivered to sunscreen-treated sites on the contralateral back. Nickel patches were then applied to both irradiated sites and adjacent, unirradiated control sites. Nickel-induced erythema at each site was measured 72 h later with a reflectance spectrometer. Comparison of the nickel reactions of irradiated and unirradiated skin revealed linear UV dose-responses for immunosuppression in both unprotected and sunscreen-treated skin. The minimum level of immunosuppression that can be reliably detected with this method is 20%. Therefore, the UV dose that reduces mean nickel CHS by 20% is the minimal immune suppression dose (MISD). Sunscreen IPF were determined by dividing the mean MISD of sunscreen-treated skin by that of unprotected skin. The sunscreens, with sun protection factors of 9 and 24, had IPF of 6.5 and > 25, respectively.  相似文献
