The production of high‐solid‐content, low‐viscosity latexes is an active field in both industry and academia. The viscosity of polymer dispersions has a clear dependence on the particle size distribution (PSD). An example is the rule of thumb that a bimodal PSD enables the reduction of the viscosity with respect to monomodal systems. Despite important progress in theoretical work, not much has been done to quantitatively predict the low shear viscosity of aqueous polymer dispersions as a function of the complex PSD. In this work, the capability of a low‐shear‐viscosity equation to quantitatively account for the influence of both the PSD and the physicochemical characteristics of the dispersions is experimentally assessed. An analysis, consistent with theoretical concepts, of the data with semiempirical correlations is proposed. Next, with values of the parameters of the viscosity equation obtained experimentally, the effect of a latex with a 70% solid content on the low shear viscosity is examined. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 57Fe Mössbauer effect measurements in the diluted Ising antiferromagnet Fe x Zn1?x F2 withx=0.25 andx=0.57 at temperatures between 4.2 and 55 K, are reported. DC suceptibility measurements show a spin-glass (SG) phase at low temperatures forx≤0.31. Our Mössbauer spectra show a phase transition to a SG state with antiferromagnetic order (AFSG) forx=0.25 and only antiferromagnetic order forx=0.57.  相似文献

We study the phase transitions to the Higgs phase of the finite temperature 2+1 dimensional Abelian Higgs model in terms of Ginzburg-Landau vortices. We find that vorticity is a good order parameter which allows us to determine the order of the transitions.  相似文献

Tissue furnish optimization plays a key role in enhancing tissue properties, making the process cost-effective. Typically, this furnish is composed of a mixture of hardwood eucalyptus fibers (HW) and softwood (SW) fibers, which ensure strength and tissue machine runnability. However, the tissue paper production with the maximization of eucalyptus fibers achieves softer papers at less cost, since SW fibers are often more expensive than HW fibers. From this perspective, this study aims to investigate the effect of micro/nano-fibrillated cellulose (MFC/NFC) as an additive, on structural, softness, strength, and water absorption properties of tissue papers, promoting partial or total removal of SW fibers to produce 100% eucalyptus materials. MFC/NFC was characterized in terms of morphological, chemical, and water interaction properties. The results showed that MFC/NFC presents a high bonding surface area, high carboxyl group content and, when incorporated into tissue furnishes, it promotes strong inter-fiber bonds. This evidence was also supported by SEM image analysis methods and FTIR. Additionally, laboratory tissue handsheets with low basis weight were produced and used in the characterization assays. Overall, the results indicated that MFC/NFC improved strength, at the expense of bulk, porosity, softness, and absorption properties. Compared to typical industrial furnish mixtures (75%HW?+?25%SW), MFC/NFC enhanced the production of bulkier, porous, and softer structures, but with reduced strength and absorption. It was possible to optimize the furnish composition by using fiber modeling to obtain 3D structure computation simulations with predictive capability. The MFC/NFC proved to be a high-quality additive to improve softness and strength properties.

The interest in the synthesis and reactivity of organometallic compounds which have two or more different metals in the same molecule has grown in recent years, due to the new chemical properties that they can present. In this work, we report the Mössbauer characterization of dppfFe(CO)3 and two novel compounds, dppfFe(NO)2 and [dppfCo(NO)2]+[SbF6], where dppf =1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene. The complexes were also characterized by IR and31P NMR. The Mössbauer parameters of the dppfFe(NO)2 and dppfFe(CO)3, show two iron sites in the same proportions while for [dppfCo(NO)2 +[SbF6] only one site was observed.  相似文献

Summary Organic Compounds carrying groups containing both nitrogen and oxygen, such as nitro- and nitroso compounds, oximes, hydroxamic acids, azoxy compounds, and amine oxides yield nitrous acid when they are heated dry (pyrolysis). This product can be readily detected in the gas phase by theGriess nitrite reaction. This behavior provides a rapid preliminary test for members of these classes of compounds. Micro analytical limits of identification are readily obtained within the technique of spot test analysis.
Zusammenfassung Organische Verbindungen mit Stickstoff- und sauerstoffhaltigen Atomgruppen, demnach Nitro- und Nitrosoverbindungen, Oxime, Hydroxamsäuren, Azoxy verbindungen und Aminoxyde spalten bei trockenem Erhitzen (Pyrolyse) salpetrige Säure ab, die in der Gasphase durch dieGriesssche Nitritreaktion empfindlich nachweisbar ist. Dieses Verhalten ermöglicht eine schnelle Vorprüfung auf Angehörige der genannten Verbindungsklassen. In der Technik der Tüpfelanalyse werden mikroanalytische Erfassungsgrenzen erreicht.

Résumé Les combinaisons organiques porteuses d'un groupement azoté et oxygéné telles que les combinaisons nitrées et nitrosées, les oximes, les acides hydroxamiques, les composés azoxy et les oxydes d'aminés, libèrent de l'acide nitreux par chauffage à sec (pyrolyse); cet acide peut être identifié en phase gazeuse par la sensible réaction deGriess des nitrites. Ce comportement permet d'effectuer un essai préliminaire rapide sur les composés appartenant aux classes précédentes. Lorsqu'on met en oeuvre la technique de l'analyse à la touche, les limites de sensibilité atteintes permettent de travailler dans le domaine microanalytique.

The present study focuses on predicting the concentration of intracellular storage polymers in enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) systems. For that purpose, quantitative image analysis techniques were developed for determining the intracellular concentrations of PHA (PHB and PHV) with Nile blue and glycogen with aniline blue staining. Partial least squares (PLS) were used to predict the standard analytical values of these polymers by the proposed methodology. Identification of the aerobic and anaerobic stages proved to be crucial for improving the assessment of PHA, PHB and PHV intracellular concentrations. Current Nile blue based methodology can be seen as a feasible starting point for further enhancement. Glycogen detection based on the developed aniline blue staining methodology combined with the image analysis data proved to be a promising technique, toward the elimination of the need for analytical off-line measurements.  相似文献
