Experimental and theoretical study of the pyrolysis of trichlorosilane

Pyrolysis of trichlorosilane (TCS) and copyrolysis of TCS with 1,3-butadiene were studied. The enthalpies and activation energies for the reactions of the products of TCS pyrolysis were found by quantum-chemical calculations. A direct study of the pyrolysis of TCS by mass spectrometry was carried out. Based on the thermochemical parameters found by quantum-chemical calculations and on the results of GLC and mass spectrometry concerning the composition of the pyrolysis products, it was concluded that the pyrolysis of TCS follows a scheme that includes formation of radicals and silylenes. Trends in formation of the nanocrystalline structure and cationic ordering in the Dy2O3-HfO2 (1: 1) system

Evolution of the nanocrystalline structure of the complex oxide Dy₂HfO₅ in the course of thermal annealing at temperatures to 1600°C has been studied by a combination of X-ray and synchrotron methods, including traditional and anomalous X-ray diffraction, PDF, EXAFS, and SAXS. The changes in crystallite size upon annealing of the as-synthesized amorphous precursor have been analyzed in detail. The systematic distortions of a fluorite-type perfect crystal structure (space group $Fm\bar 3m$ ) related to the nonequivalence of the local environment of the Dy and Hf cations but not resulting in formation of a pyrochlore-type cationordered structure in this system have been examined.

Observation of a 1/t decay law for hot clusters and molecules in a storage ring

The exponential law is valid both for decay from a single quantum state into a continuum and for an ensemble maintained in thermal equilibrium. For statistical decay of an ensemble of isolated systems with a broad energy distribution, the exponential decay is replaced by a 1/t distribution. We present confirmation of this decay law by experiments with cluster anions in a small electrostatic storage ring. Deviations from the 1/t law for such an ensemble give important information on the dynamics of the systems. As examples, we present measurements revealing strong radiative cooling of anions of both metal clusters and fullerenes.
