Sound quality evaluation of the booming sensation for passenger cars   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Automotive booming noise due to powertrain occurs when pure or narrow band tones related to the firing frequency of engine and its harmonics excite the passenger cavity, which entails a prominent increase of sound intensity. The booming sensation has been considered as very important to the acoustic comfort of passengers. In this study, a sound quality index which can objectively evaluate the booming sensation was derived. Because of the tonal nature of powertrain booming noise, subjective pitch was employed to find only aurally relevant tonal components which influence booming sensation as well as loudness. Using the empirical data and the frequency difference limen for just-noticeable change of booming sensation obtained from the listening test, an existing pitch extraction algorithm could be modified. The modified pitch model was applied to the interior noises of accelerating passenger cars together with a loudness analysis for representing the objective features of booming feeling. Subjective tests using the magnitude estimation method were conducted to evaluate the degree of booming sensation. Finally, booming strength was proposed for quantifying the booming sensation, which was validated by subjective results. The correlation coefficient between the derived booming strength and the degree of booming sensation obtained by the subjective test was 0.926.  相似文献

As cars become quieter the sound quality of components with electric motors becomes more important in the customer perception of vehicle quality. This has created a need to develop methods for the specification of component sounds. The objectives of this study were to identify perceptually important aspects, link them to acoustic metrics and, based on this, develop guidelines for the determination of requirements for power window sound. Seven prominent attributes were identified: dull, loud, annoying, steady, powerful, overall product quality and under-dimensioned. Effects of auditory stream segregation influenced the results. Power window sounds mainly consist of two sources: motor and window seal scratching. Subjects tended to judge only motor sound. Prediction models developed on isolated motor sound correlated well with judgements. Low loudness, sharpness and motor speed fluctuations led to perceived high product quality. The results emphasise the importance of handling auditory stream segregation and temporal variations in the sound design process.  相似文献

Acoustic time histories from vibrating surfaces of a diesel engine   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
An experiment on a diesel engine provides for validation of a method that retrieves source strength spectra, source strength time histories and sound pressure time histories of the engine’s complex partial sources. The method is based on empirical transfer function measurements and inverse matrix calculations briefly described in the article. Different simplifying source models were selected by comparison of calculated and measured auto spectra. The results show: (1) indication of time efficient measurements of source strength spectra, (2) the importance of correct source models in the case of separated source strength time histories, and (3) spectra of separated sound pressure time histories. Listening tests reported that it is possible to detect well differentiated sounds of the partial sources as a result of the method.  相似文献

The aim of the study presented here is to examine the effects of instructions on the perception of a sequence of interior car sounds in three different conditions. In each condition, participants listened to the same sound sequence, but the type of information given during the instruction phase, prior to the listening test, were different. In the first condition, a group of participants listens to the sound sequence without any external information except that the sound sequence was recorded inside a car. In the second condition, another group of participants was informed by a text of the successive events that are presented in the sound sequence. In the third condition, participants were informed first by the same text as in condition 2, and then by several pictures showing the different steps that could be heard from the beginning to the end of the sound sequence. Each of the three groups of subjects participated in three tasks: an identification task, a recognition task, and a semantic judgment task using twelve verbal attributes. We assessed how listeners’ judgments of the sound sequence were affected by external information. Results show that the effect is dependant on the type of verbal attribute and on the combination of external information. The verbal information, provided without visual information in condition 2, improves the identification and recognition scores, and thus influences positively the comprehension of the sound sequence and the feeling of immersion. The added visual information, in condition 3, does not change the identification scores, but affects judgements on the pleasantness scale. It appears that the perception of the sound sequence was influenced by visual cues. This study reveals that the format of instructions influences perceptive judgments of the sound sequence tested, but globally factors accounting for the participants’ perception across the three conditions are not modified.  相似文献

The increasing air traffic in the past has led to the fact that and more and more people were affected by aircraft noise. Since the potential of reducing noise level of current aircraft will be limited in the future after recent developed techniques have been realized in practice.Therefore, additional efforts are necessary to improve the sound quality of aircraft noise and give hints to aircraft manufactures concerning components that have to be acoustically optimized. The present study describes the development of an item list for a semantic differential (SD) that is appropriate for the determination of different perceptive features of aircraft sound quality and focuses on the estimation of the reliability of this new instrument. The selected 10 SD items have relation to the sound components emitted by the different technical devices of airplane engines.The analyses of the measurement characteristics of the different items were based on G-theory. This method presupposes data possessing interval-scale-level characteristics. Therefore, the used rating scales were examined with respect to this attribute. The results verified that the data fulfill this precondition. The results gave evidence that the judgments show large inter-individual differences. The proportion of variance which can be traced back to the factor “aircraft sound” amounted to at most one-fifth of total variance indicating that the differences between the aircraft sounds are rather small. Nevertheless, the findings demonstrate that it is possible to measure not all but several decisive aspects with sufficient reliability and expense.  相似文献

Sound quality is among the main factors that influence customers’ preference for choosing good automobile products. It all started more than 10 years ago and grows up so fast due to high competition in the automotive industries. A-weighted noise levels and sound power are usually utilised to measure the noise but they are not adequate to characterise the impact sound inside a car. The most popular approach to determine sound quality of a product is to define an annoyance or specific index, which involves both subjective and objective evaluations. Subjective and objective tests should be studied concurrently in order to determine the sound quality inside a passenger car. This approach is used in this paper to evaluate vehicle comfort index according to most frequently used sound quality metrics, namely; Zwicker loudness, sharpness, roughness and fluctuation strength. As a result researchers of different fields of automotive acoustics investigations can use this index according to the type of road (international road roughness) without any need to perform time-consuming jury tests. The metrics are correlated with jury test results that show which of them and how much has affected the acoustical comfort of the vehicle. The relation between road roughness and vehicle acoustical comfort index is another point of interest in this research.  相似文献

It has been increasingly realised that traditional parameters, such as A-weighted sound levels, sound power and noise spectra in octaves or third octaves are not enough to describe a sound and that machine labels should show more subjective information about the emitted noise. A new labelling system based on empirical data is proposed. The methodology of the study used as the basis for the proposal is explained, as well as the objective and subjective characteristics to be included in the new label. The car interior is becoming quieter and other sounds are now exposed to user perception, such as the sound produced by interface buttons when actuated. So, the functional role of the button sound on interface operation and its aesthetic and emotional role on the user experience are now more important than before. However, little research and design effort has been paid to understand how to design buttons that produce a pleasant sound. Moreover, the button’s sound requirements received by interface manufacturers are ill-defined, insufficient or even inexistent, and consequently their conversion into specifications for manufacturing is problematic and leads to long and costly development processes. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to identify relevant acoustic parameters that explain the users sound preferences. Data on preference subjective judgments were collected and buttons acoustic signals were measured allowing the development of preference models based on partial least squares regression and neural networks methods. The former was successful in selecting the relevant parameters to describe the preference ratings of the buttons sound. The later, dealing with the non-linear nature of acoustic perception, was able to predict preferences based on the relevant parameters.  相似文献
