The long wavelength limit of scattering from spheres has a rich history in optics, electromagnetics, and acoustics. Recently it was shown that a common integral kernel pertains to formulations of weak spherical scatterers in both acoustics and electromagnetic regimes. Furthermore, the relationship between backscattered amplitude and wavenumber k was shown to follow power laws higher than the Rayleigh scattering k2 power law, when the inhomogeneity had a material composition that conformed to a Gaussian weighted Hermite polynomial. Although this class of scatterers, called Hermite scatterers, are plausible, it may be simpler to manufacture scatterers with a core surrounded by one or more layers. In this case the inhomogeneous material property conforms to a piecewise continuous constant function. We demonstrate that the necessary and sufficient conditions for supra-Rayleigh scattering power laws in this case can be stated simply by considering moments of the inhomogeneous function and its spatial transform. This development opens an additional path for construction of, and use of scatterers with unique power law behavior.  相似文献

Detecting pipe changes via acoustic matched field processing   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Detecting pipe irregularities such as intrusions can be challenging. However, subtle changes can be identified in the complex acoustic fields measured over a range of frequencies and over a time interval given an “array” of receivers. In particular, for two receivers one can coherently process the signals via matched field processing (MFP) to infer whether or not there have been changes such as new intrusions relative to undisturbed fields measured earlier. There is no acoustic modelling of the fields required, only the simple linear processor is applied, and only test data (five scenarios) are used in this demonstration. A key advantage to using MFP plus two (or more) microphones is that absolute sound levels need not be carefully measured.  相似文献

Landing gear noise control using perforated fairings   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Landing gears of commercial aircraft make an important contribution to total aircraft noise in the approach configuration. Using fairings to shield components from high speed impingement reduces noise. Furthermore, perforating these fairings has been confirmed by flight tests to further enable noise reduction. Following an earlier fundamental study of the application of perforated fairings, a study has been performed to investigate and optimize the benefits of bleeding air through landing gear fairings. By means of wind tunnel tests, an aerodynamic and acoustic survey has been performed on a simplified generic main landing gear to explore the influence of (perforated) fairings on the lower part of the gear. The results show that for this specific case, the application of impermeable fairings reduces noise in the mid- and high frequency range by shielding sharp edged components from high velocity impingement. However, below 1 kHz the noise is shown to increase significantly. Application of the perforations is shown to diminish this low frequency increase whilst maintaining the reduction in the mid- and high frequency range. The aerodynamic and acoustic measurements point in the direction of the separated flow of the fairings interacting with the downstream gear components responsible for the low frequency noise increase. Bleeding of the air through the fairings reduces the large scale turbulence in the proximity of these components and hence diminishes the low frequency noise increase.  相似文献

Silver epoxy was selected to bond transducer plates on glass substrates. The properties and thickness of the bonding medium affect the electrical input impedance of the transducer. Thus, the thickness of the silver epoxy bonding layer was used as a design parameter to optimize the structure for the transducer input impedance to match the 50 Ω output impedance of most radio frequency (RF) generators. Simulation and experimental results show that nearly perfect matching is achieved without using any matching circuit. At the matching condition, the transducer operates at a frequency band a little bit below the half-wavelength resonant frequency of the piezoelectric plate. In experiments, lead titanate (PT) piezoelectric plates were employed. Both full-size, 11.5 mm × 2 mm × 0.4 mm, and half-size, 5.75 mm × 2 mm × 0.4 mm, can be well matched using optimal silver epoxy thickness. The transducer assemblies demonstrate high efficiency. The conversion loss from electrical power to acoustic power in soda-lime glass is 4.3 dB. This loss is low considering the fact that the transducers operate at off-resonance by 12%. With proper choice of silver epoxy thickness, the transducer can be matched at the fundamental, the 3rd and 5th harmonic frequencies. This leads to the possible realization of triple-band transducers. Reliability was assessed with thermal cycling test according to Telcordia GR-468-Core recommendation. Of the 30 transducer assemblies tested, none broke until 2900 cycles and 27 have sustained beyond 4050 cycles.  相似文献

One of the major problems in computational aero-acoustics is the disparity in length scales between the flow field and the acoustic field. As a result, a mapping function is normally used to achieve a non-uniform grid distribution. In this paper, a B-spline collocation method with an arbitrary grid placement capability is proposed. This capability not only allows an optimum grid distribution but also avoids the numerical complexities associated with the mapping function. The B-spline collocation method is applied to the case of spinning co-rotating vortices. The result agrees well with the matched asymptotic solution. To cite this article: R. Widjaja et al., C. R. This paper presents a numerical study of noise source term in non-isothermal flows in the context of an aeroacoustic hybrid technique at low Mach numbers. Asymptotic analysis applied to the fully compressible Navier–Stokes equations provides separated sets of equations for the dynamic of the flow and the production and propagation of acoustic waves. Comparisons with analytical dipole and quadrupole distributions are performed, confirming the dipole type of non-isothermal source distribution. The nature of the instability governing the self-sustained tones produced by a low Mach number plane jet impinging on a slotted plate, known as slot-tone, is identified experimentally. For a given Reynolds number, the natural shear-layer and the jet column mode frequencies of the free jet delimit the values of the measured slot-tone operating frequencies. The oscillations at lower frequencies are the result of the amplification of the jet column mode, and those at higher frequencies correspond to the shear layer instabilities.
