General demonstration of principal states of polarization and real-time monitoring of polarization mode dispersion in optical fibres 下载免费PDF全文
We investigated the general properties of polarization effects in optical fibres and demonstrated the existence of socalled principal states of polarization (PSP), which mean the fixed points in mathematics, in different polarization effects,such as birefringence and polarization mode dispersion, by using fixed point theory. Furthermore, a time evolution vector is defined to describe the time evolution of polarization state in optical fibres, which is used to investigate the time evolution of polarization mode dispersion vector (PDV), including differential group delay and PSP. The experimental results of real-time monitoring of PDV by using this method are reported. To our knowledge, this is the first report on monitoring PSP evolution in optical fibres. 相似文献

We present two numerical approaches to calculate the geometrical birefringence from two-dimenslonal refractive-index profile in single-mode fibres. One is the improved perturbation model theory, the other is based on the general solution of noncircular uniform optical waveguide in an arbitrary coordinate system. Using these methods, we can obtain not only the magnitude of geometrical birefringence, but also the orientation of birefrlngent axes. Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is the ultimate limitation to high bit-rate fibre communication system. The stability of PMD is very important to its measurement and compensation. This paper puts forward a method to measure the stability of PMD by measuring the stability of the state of polarization (SOP) and introduces the conception of time evolution vector (TEV) of SOP. We observe the fact that the regularity of the principal state of polarization changing with time is the same as other SOPs‘‘, if we neglect the dependence of TEV on wavelength. We also measure the SOP‘‘s stability of some fibres with different lengths, and obtain results of PMD changing with time. 相似文献

利用将任意非圆柱等效为椭圆的方法分析和计算了单模光纤中包层和芯层折射率分布不同心导致的偏振模色散,得到了两个偏振模式的传输常数差△β和偏振模色散△τ与偏心比、入射光的波长、芯层半径、相对折射率差的关系曲线,为实践中昼减小单模光纤的偏振模色散提供理论上的指导。与椭圆度引起的偏振模色散相比,不同心引起的偏振模色散具有相同的数量级。 相似文献
