Energy Squeeze of Ultrashort Light Pulse by Kerr Nonlinear Photonic Crystals

Self-phase modulation can efficiently shape the spectrum of an optical pulse propagating along an optical material with Kerr nonlinearity. In this work we show that a one-dimensional Kerr nonlinear photonic crystal can impose anomalous spectrum modulation to a high-power ultrashort light pulse. The spectrum component at the photonic band gap edge can be one order of magnitude enhanced in addition to the ordinary spectrum broadening due to self-phase modulation. The enhancement is strictly pinned at the band gap edge by changing the sample length, the intensity or central wavelength of the incident pulse. The phenomenon is attributed to band gap induced enhancement of light-matter interaction.     

Oscillatory disturbance in force calibration of optical tweezers

In the calibration of the optical trap stiffness, it is found that there appears an attenuating oscillation as an oscillatory disturbance added to the trapped bead movement, when the scanner is driven by a triangular wave input.An equivalent oscillator model is put forward to explain the mechanism of the oscillatory disturbance. Both the measurements and calculations show that the attenuating oscillation comes from the oscillation of the scanner and the triangular wave drive causes this additional oscillation of the scanner. Furthermore, the analysis indicates that the oscillatory disturbance will become stronger, when the stiffness of the trap increases or the natural frequency of the scanner decreases. We adopt another driving way, i.e. a sinusoidal wave input is used instead of the triangular wave input. Our experiment has verified that in this case the oscillatory disturbance is eliminated completely.     

Abnormal Modulation of Dielectric Band Transmittance of Polystyrene Opal

The abnormal transmittance in the dielectric band edge of a polystyrene opal is observed and analysed. The transmittance is periodically modulated and the period of modulation varies with the wavelength, which destroys the perfect structure of the photonic band gap. The transmittance modulation originates from the propagation of the low order whispering-gallery mode excited in polystyrene spheres. These results indicate that the whisperinggallery mode has a great influence on practical applications of polystyrene opal.     

Complete Band-Gap in Two-Dimensional Quasiperiod Photonic Crystals with Hollow Cylinders

The transmission properties of quasiperiodic photonic crystals (QPCs) based on the random square-triangle tiling system are investigated by the multiple scattering method. The hollow cylinders are introduced in our calculation. It is found that QPCs with hollow cylinders also possess a complete band gap common to s- and p-polarized waves when the inner radius of hollow cylinders is larger than a certain value. The QPCs possessing the complete band gap can be applied to the fields of light emitting, wave-guides, optical filters, high-Q resonators and antennas.     

具有态守恒赝隙的光子晶体中两能级原子自发辐射的增强与抑制

论证了在赝带隙光子晶体中存在一个全频率域态总数守恒规则，在完全带隙光子晶体中还存在一个局域态总数守恒规则.态总数守恒规则指出，如果一个光子晶体的态密度在某些频率范围存在相对于等效介质态密度的谷，则一定由其他频率范围内相对于等效介质态密度的峰来补偿.使用符合态总数守恒规则的态密度模型，解释了态密度调制导致的自发辐射谱增强、抑制、变窄、红移、蓝移以及谱分裂等光子晶体中的量子光学现象.该理论比较适合研究在具有赝带隙的光子晶体中大量随机分布的发光原子或分子的自发辐射行为. 关键词： 光子晶体 自发辐射 态密度 光子赝带隙     

张志三的生平和科学贡献(1920-2003年)

张志三先生是光谱学家，早期致力于原子发射光谱应用的研究，建立了较完善的分子光谱实验室，为我国光谱学的发展做出了贡献，他热心进行激光光谱的应用研究，促进了我国激光物理、原子、分子物理的发展，张志三先生因病于2003年9月20日在北京逝世，为表达我们的哀思和怀念，特转载张道中研究员撰写的《张志三先生的生平和科学贡献(1920—2003年)》一文。     

二维平板光子晶体直波导的制备和光传输特性的测量

利用聚焦离子束刻蚀的方法在SOI(silicon on insulator)基片上制备了W3型二维光子晶体直波导.观察并测量了近红外激光通过光子晶体波导的散射图形和透过谱.实验结果说明，激光在有引入引出脊形波导的光子晶体直波导中具有很好的传输特性. 关键词： 光子晶体波导 光子带隙 脊型波导     

二维非线性光子晶体中的高阶准相位匹配谐频

在二维正方晶格的周期性极化铌酸锂晶体中，通过调节基频光波长实现了皮秒光束的高阶共线及非共线准相位匹配谐频过程，在垂直于入射光束的方向上观察到了多对红、绿、蓝三种颜色的谐频光斑.同时，通过改变晶体的入射角度也实现了基频光的高阶谐频过程.实验与理 论符合得很好，这一结果对光电子集成及紧凑器件的研究发展有重要的指导意义. 关键词： 高阶准相位匹配 二维非线性光子晶体 频率转换     

大直径聚苯乙烯小球自组织方法制备高质量opal晶体

通过改进样品池的结构和其他实验条件，用气压法制备了大直径聚苯乙烯小球（直径为1 μm和700 nm）的人造蛋白石（opal）样品，并测量了其能带特性.对于制备能带位置在红外波段的三维光子晶体，这一实验结果将有很广阔的用途. 关键词： 光子晶体 光子带隙 人造蛋白石（opal）     

用聚苯乙烯小球模拟生物组织中的光强分布

用水中周期排列的直径为3μm的单层聚苯乙烯小球以及单个聚苯乙烯小球模拟对光敏感的生物组织，如绿色植物叶肉细胞、动物皮肤的表皮细胞、苍蝇蜜蜂等的复眼以及一种海蛇尾背部的光敏器官的光强分布.通过观测聚苯乙烯小球在不同深度的光强分布，发现随着深度的改变其光强分布是截然不同的.在小球的横截面上，光强分布不很均匀而且呈有规律的花纹图案.在小球的外面，光强分布表现为独立的透镜成像分布.周期排列的小球与单个小球在其横截面上的光强分布也完全不同，前者的光强分布表现出球与球之间很大的相关性. 关键词： 生物组织 周期排列 光强分布
