Closed mappings onto metric spaces

We investigate the classes of spaces that can be mapped onto a metrizable space by a closed mapping with fibers having a given property $\text{P}$. We give some conditions which assure that such classes are closed under the action of perfect or open and compact mappings. Such a treatment includes the investigation of paracompact p-spaces and M-spaces. We also discuss spaces that can be mapped onto a metacompact Moore space.     

A Note on Q-order of Convergence

To complement the property of Q-order of convergence we introduce the notions of Q-superorder and Q-suborder of convergence. A new definition of exact Q-order of convergence given in this note generalizes one given by Potra. The definitions of exact Q-superorder and exact Q-suborder of convergence are also introduced. These concepts allow the characterization of any sequence converging with Q-order (at least) 1 by showing the existence of a unique real number q [1,+] such that either exact Q-order, exact Q-superorder, or exact Q-suborder q of convergence holds.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Some Categorical Algebraic Properties: Counter-Examples for Functor Categories

This work is a complement to the authors earlier papers, where it is shown that a functor category inherits from such properties as amalgamation, transferability and congruence extension if has either products or certain pushouts. A general scheme is given for constructing counter-examples which show that the latter condition on is essential. In particular, it is shown that the functor categories , , ( resp.) do not satisfy the amalgamation (congruence extension resp.) property in general. Variation Preserving Extensions and Generalized Essential Variation

A mapping from a subset of the real axis to a metric space with finite generalized variation is shown to admit extension to a mapping of the whole real axis with the same variation. This result leads to characterization of the generalized essential variation of a mapping.
