A sufficient condition for symmetric nonnegative realizability of a spectrum is given in terms of (weak) majorization of a partition of the negative eigenvalues by a selection of the positive eigenvalues. If there are more than two positive eigenvalues, an additional condition, besides majorization, is needed on the partition. This generalizes observations of Suleǐmanova and Loewy about the cases of one and two positive eigenvalues, respectively. Because lifetimes of systems are not deterministic, partially, orders are used for comparison purposes which lead us to provide optimal system configurations. This paper deals with a signature‐based dispersive ordering of mixed systems. The aggregate claim amount in a particular time period is a quantity of fundamental importance for proper management of an insurance company and also for pricing of insurance coverages. In this paper, we show that the proportional hazard rates (PHR) model, which includes some well-known distributions such as exponential, Weibull and Pareto distributions, can be used as the aggregate claim amount distribution. We also present some conditions for the use of exponentiated Weibull distribution as the claim amount distribution. In practical situations, systems often suffer shocks from external stressing environments, stressing the system at random. These random shocks may have non‐ignorable effects on the system's reliability. In this paper, we provide sufficient (and necessary) conditions on components' lifetimes and their surviving probabilities from random shocks for comparing the lifetimes of two fail‐safe systems by means of the usual stochastic, hazard rate, and likelihood ratio orderings.
