Computations of two passing‐by high‐speed trains by a relaxation overset‐grid algorithm

This paper presents a relaxation algorithm, which is based on the overset grid technology, an unsteady three‐dimensional Navier–Stokes flow solver, and an inner‐ and outer‐relaxation method, for simulation of the unsteady flows of moving high‐speed trains. The flow solutions on the overlapped grids can be accurately updated by introducing a grid tracking technique and the inner‐ and outer‐relaxation method. To evaluate the capability and solution accuracy of the present algorithm, the computational static pressure distribution of a single stationary TGV high‐speed train inside a long tunnel is investigated numerically, and is compared with the experimental data from low‐speed wind tunnel test. Further, the unsteady flows of two TGV high‐speed trains passing by each other inside a long tunnel and at the tunnel entrance are simulated. A series of time histories of pressure distributions and aerodynamic loads acting on the train and tunnel surfaces are depicted for detailed discussions. Ground-state complex formation of perylene with pyromellitic dianhydride studied by static fluorescence quenching

The association of complex formation with static quenching in CT systems was investigated. Evaluation of the data made evident that the inner filter effect must be allowed for. Time-resolved and temperature-dependent stationary measurements of fluorescence led to the separation of dynamic and static quenching components. The static quenching constant is discussed with respect to the equilibrium constant of complex formation determined by absorption spectroscopy.     

Left, right, and inner socles of associative systems

We investigate the basic properties of the different socles that can be considered in not necessarily semiprime associative systems. Among other things, we show that the socle defined as the sum of minimal (or minimal and trivial) inner ideals is always an ideal. When trivial inner ideals are included, this inner socle contains the socles defined in terms of minimal left or right ideals. Benzamide species retained by DMSO composites at a kaolinite surface

The surface area of kaolinite-benzamide (K-Bz)6.62 m² g^–1, whichis noticeably lower than that of kaolinite-dimethyl sulphoxide (K-DMSO) 14.61m² g^–1, the co-perturbationof the inner-surface hydroxyl features at 3697 and 3650 cm^–1,and the increase of d(001) value by 7.44 Å are all related to the benzamidespecies inserted into the kaolinite structure through the replacement of theK-DMSO composites. Disappearance of the DMSO reflections and emergence ofwell-defined features at 6.04(2θ) and 11.16(2θ), 001 and 002 reflectionswith d values of 14.62 and 7.92 Å, respectively point out that the DMSOspecies were substituted efficiently by benzamide molecules. The thermal stabilityof the K-Bz derivative up to 300°C can be attributed to the slightly tiltedaromatic ring keying into the gibbsitic sheets via the –NH₂groups.     

Complete 1H and 13C NMR spectral assignment of cis- and trans- 3-(2-[2-(4-methylphenyl)ethenyl]phenyl])sydnones

1H and 13C NMR spectra of cis- and trans-3-(2-[2-(4-methylphenyl)ethenyl]phenyl])sydnones, the first stilbene-substituted mezoionic oxadiazolium rings, were fully assigned combining the information in various solvents, such as deuterated benzene, acetone and chloroform, using 2D NMR techniques.     

Speciation analysis of platinum antitumoral drugs in impacted tissues

Chemical compounds containing platinum have been employed since 1978 as drugs to beat certain type of tumours. Nevertheless, besides of their exceptional antitumoral properties, these drugs also have important deleterious side effects, such as, nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.A study of Pt accumulation and a speciation analysis has been performed by ICP-MS in samples from kidney and inner ear in a controlled population of Wistar rats treated with, either, cisplatin, carboplatin or oxaliplatin. The results on Pt accumulation point out to drug structure and not only to Pt content as the responsible for the alteration of organ functionality.Speciation studies in the samples from kidney and inner ear were performed coupling two-dimensional liquid chromatography (2D-LC) to ICP-MS. Size exclusion (SEC) and anion exchange fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) was employed for 2D orthogonal separation. After these separations, free drug peaks were not observed in any of the samples.The binding of Pt to biomolecules was demonstrated by SEC and, independently of the drug used, Pt eluted as two main bands with molecular weights of 12 kDa and 25-65 kDa for inner ear samples, and as two different bands with 20 kDa and 50-60 kDa in the samples from kidney. However, the relative band intensity presented important differences for the three drugs. Using the same chromatographic conditions, it was shown that a metallothionein (MT) standard eluted in the same position as some of the cytosolic Pt-biomolecules.High Pt-containing fractions eluting from the SEC column were analysed by anion exchange FPLC after a preconcentration step. Among the different preconcentration methods tested, sample focusing on the head of the FPLC column shows main advantages. In this way, the separation by 2D chromatography of the high molecular Pt-species has been considerably improved.
