Over the past decade, the field of finite-dimensional variational inequality and complementarity problems has seen a rapid development in its theory of existence, uniqueness and sensitivity of solution(s), in the theory of algorithms, and in the application of these techniques to transportation planning, regional science, socio-economic analysis, energy modeling, and game theory. Solving a variational inequality problem is equivalent to finding a solution of a system of nonsmooth equations. Recently,
we proposed an implicit method, which solves monotone variational inequality problem via solving a series of systems of nonlinear
smooth (whenever the operator is smooth) equations. It can exploit the facilities of the classical Newton–like methods for
smooth equations. In this paper, we extend the method to solve a class of general variational inequality problems Moreover, we improve the implicit method to allow inexact solutions of the systems of nonlinear equations at each iteration.
The method is shown to preserve the same convergence properties as the original implicit method.

Whether or not the general asymmetric variational inequality problem can be formulated as a differentiable optimization problem has been an open question. This paper gives an affirmative answer to this question. We provide a new optimization problem formulation of the variational inequality problem, and show that its objective function is continuously differentiable whenever the mapping involved in the latter problem is continuously differentiable. We also show that under appropriate assumptions on the latter mapping, any stationary point of the optimization problem is a global optimal solution, and hence solves the variational inequality problem. We discuss descent methods for solving the equivalent optimization problem and comment on systems of nonlinear equations and nonlinear complementarity problems. 相似文献
