Additive Hermitian idempotent preservers between operator algebras

Let L be an additive map between (real or complex) matrix algebras sending $n\times n$ Hermitian idempotent matrices to $m\times m$ Hermitian idempotent matrices. We show that there are nonnegative integers $p,q$ with $n(p+q)=r\le m$ and an $m\times m$ unitary matrix U such that$L(A)=U[(I_p?A)\oplus (I_q?A^t)\oplus 0_{m?r}]U^{?},\text{for any}n\times n\text{Hermitian}A\text{with rational trace}.$ We also extend this result to the (complex) von Neumann algebra setting, and provide a supplement to the Dye-Bunce-Wright Theorem asserting that every additive map of Hermitian idempotents extends to a Jordan ?-homomorphism.     

On null sequences for Banach operator ideals,trace duality and approximation properties

Let be a Banach operator ideal and X be a Banach space. We undertake the study of the vector space of ‐null sequences of Carl and Stephani on X , , from a unified point of view after we introduce a norm which makes it a Banach space. To give accurate results we consider local versions of the different types of accessibility of Banach operator ideals. We show that in the most common situations, when is right‐accessible for , behaves much alike . When this is the case we give a geometric tensor product representation of . On the other hand, we show an example where the representation fails. Also, via a trace duality formula, we characterize the dual space of . We apply our results to study some problems related with the ‐approximation property giving a trace condition which is used to solve the remaining case () of a problem posed by Kim (2015). Namely, we prove that if a dual space has the ‐approximation property then the space has the ‐approximation property.     

Universal mappings for certain classes of operators and polynomials between Banach spaces

A well‐known result of J. Lindenstrauss and A. Pełczyński (1968) gives the existence of a universal non‐weakly compact operator between Banach spaces. We show the existence of universal non‐Rosenthal, non‐limited, and non‐Grothendieck operators. We also prove that there does not exist a universal non‐Dunford–Pettis operator, but there is a universal class of non‐Dunford–Pettis operators. Moreover, we show that, for several classes of polynomials between Banach spaces, including the non‐weakly compact polynomials, there does not exist a universal polynomial.     

On idempotents of a class of commutative rings

Abstract

In the present work, a procedure for determining idempotents of a commutative ring having a sequence of ideals with certain properties is presented. As an application of this procedure, idempotent elements of various commutative rings are determined. Several examples are included illustrating the main results.     

Cohen and multiple Cohen strongly summing multilinear operators

Considering the successful theory of multiple summing multilinear operators as a prototype, we introduce the classes of multiple Cohen strongly p-summing multilinear operators and polynomials. The adequacy of these classes under the viewpoint of the theory of multilinear and polynomial ideals and holomorphy types is discussed in detail.     

Extending Sets of Idempotents to Ring Extensions

In this paper the idea of an intrinsic extension of a ring, first proposed by Faith and Utumi, is generalized and studied in its own right. For these types of ring extensions, it is shown that, with relatively mild conditions on the base ring, R, a complete set of primitive idempotents (a complete set of left triangulating idempotents, a complete set of centrally primitive idempotents) can be constructed for an intrinsic extension, T, from a corresponding set in the base ring R. Examples and applications are given for rings that occur in functional analysis and group ring theory.     

Functions averages over the roots of unity,cauchy problems and addition formulas

An averaging operator over the roots of unity is defined on a class of analytic functions and its algebraic and analytic properties are investigated. A Cauchy like integral formula for this is obtained. This operator and its properties are then employed to solve higher order Cauchy problems, to derive addition formulas for hypergeometric functions and to obtain integral representations for special classes of hypergeometric functions.
