For the last decades, the hydrogen-abstraction−acetylene-addition (HACA) mechanism has been widely invoked to rationalize the high-temperature synthesis of PAHs as detected in carbonaceous meteorites (CM) and proposed to exist in the interstellar medium (ISM). By unravelling the chemistry of the 9-phenanthrenyl radical ([C14H9].) with vinylacetylene (C4H4), we present the first compelling evidence of a barrier-less pathway leading to a prototype tetracyclic PAH – triphenylene (C18H12) – via an unconventional hydrogen abstraction–vinylacetylene addition (HAVA) mechanism operational at temperatures as low as 10 K. The barrier-less, exoergic nature of the reaction reveals HAVA as a versatile reaction mechanism that may drive molecular mass growth processes to PAHs and even two-dimensional, graphene-type nanostructures in cold environments in deep space thus leading to a better understanding of the carbon chemistry in our universe through the untangling of elementary reactions on the most fundamental level. 相似文献

When irradiated with violet light, hexaazatrinaphthylene (HATN) extracts a hydrogen atom from an alcohol forming a long-living hydrogenated species. The apparent kinetic isotope effect for fluorescence decay time in deuterated methanol (1.56) indicates that the lowest singlet excited state of the molecule is a precursor for intermolecular hydrogen transfer. The photochemical hydrogenation occurs in several alcohols (methanol, ethanol, isopropanol) but not in water. Hydrogenated HATN can be detected optically by an absorption band at 1.78 eV as well as with EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) and NMR techniques. Mass spectrometry of photoproducts reveal di-hydrogenated HATN structures along with methoxylated and methylated HATN molecules which are generated through the reaction with methoxy radicals (remnants from alcohol splitting). Experimental findings are consistent with the theoretical results which predicted that for the excited state of the HATN-solvent molecular complex, there exists a barrierless hydrogen transfer from methanol but a small barrier for the similar oxidation of water. 相似文献

The mechanism and kinetics of the reactions of CF3COOCH2CH3, CF2HCOOCH3, and CF3COOCH3 with Cl and OH radicals are studied using the B3LYP, MP2, BHandHLYP, and M06‐2X methods with the 6‐311G(d,p) basis set. The study is further refined by using the CCSD(T) and QCISD(T)/6‐311++G(d,p) methods. Seven hydrogen‐abstraction channels are found. All the rate constants, computed by a dual‐level direct method with a small‐curvature tunneling correction, are in good agreement with the experimental data. The tunneling effect is found to be important for the calculated rate constants in the low‐temperature range. For the reaction of CF3COOCH2CH3+Cl, H‐abstraction from the CH2 group is found to be the dominant reaction channel. The standard enthalpies of formation for the species are also calculated. The Arrhenius expressions are fitted within 200–1000 K as kT(1)=8.4×10?20T 2.63exp(381.28/T), kT(2)=2.95×10?21T 3.13exp(?103.21/T), kT(3)=1.25×10?23T 3.37exp(791.98/T), and kT(4)=4.53×10?22T 3.07exp(465.00/T). 相似文献

Atomic metal anions (AMAs) Fe–, Cs–, Cu– and Ag– were generated in the gas phase by collisionally decomposing the corresponding metal‐oxalate anion. Mass selected AMAs were allowed to react with halogenated and nitrated molecules (C6H5Cl, C6H4Cl2, C6H3Cl3, C6H5I, C6H5Br and C6H5NO2) in the collision hexapole of a triple‐quadrupole mass spectrometer. Observed reactions include the predominant formation of X– (X = Cl, Br and I), as well as FeCl–, FeCl2– and FeCl3– when Fe‐ reacted with the mono, di and tri‐chlorobenzenes; reactions between 1,4‐dichlorobenzene and Cs– produced Cl–, CsCl– and CsCl2–; reactions involving iodobenzene also produced, CsI–, CsI2– and AgI–. The results suggest that the reaction to form X– (X = Cl, Br, I and NO2) may be a promising route to improving the detection efficiency by mass spectrometry for such analytes. A unified low‐temperature reaction mechanism on the formation of acenes, phenacenes, and helicenes—polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that are distinct via the linear, zigzag, and ortho‐condensed arrangements of fused benzene rings—is revealed. This mechanism is mediated through a barrierless, vinylacetylene mediated gas‐phase chemistry utilizing tetracene, [4]phenacene, and [4]helicene as benchmarks contesting established ideas that molecular mass growth processes to PAHs transpire at elevated temperatures. This mechanism opens up an isomer‐selective route to aromatic structures involving submerged reaction barriers, resonantly stabilized free‐radical intermediates, and systematic ring annulation potentially yielding molecular wires along with racemic mixtures of helicenes in deep space. Connecting helicene templates to the Origins of Life ultimately changes our hypothesis on interstellar carbon chemistry. 相似文献

In this research article, we describe the synthesis and characterization of mononuclear and dinuclear Cu complexes bound by a family of tridentate redox-active ligands with tunable H-bonding donors. The mononuclear Cu-anion complexes were oxidized to the corresponding “high-valent” intermediates by oxidation of the redox-active ligand. These species were capable of oxidizing phenols with weak O−H bonds via H-atom abstraction. Thermodynamic analysis of the H-atom abstractions, which included reduction potential measurements, pKa determination and kinetic studies, revealed that modification of the anion coordinated to the Cu and changes in the H-bonding donor did not lead to major differences in the reactivity of the “high-valent” CuY complexes (Y: hydroxide, phenolate and acetate), which indicated that the tridentate ligand scaffold acts as the H+ and e− acceptor. 相似文献

The stereoselective copper-mediated hydroxylation of intramolecular C−H bonds from tridentate ligands is reinvestigated using DFT calculations. The computational study aims at deciphering the mechanism of C−H hydroxylation obtained after reaction of Cu(I) precursors with dioxygen, using ligands bearing either activated ( L1 ) or non-activated ( L2 ) C−H bonds. Configurational analysis allows rationalization of the experimentally observed regio- and stereoselectivity. The computed mechanism involves the formation of a side-on peroxide species ( P ) in equilibrium with the key intermediate bis-(μ-oxo) isomer ( O ) responsible for the C−H activation step. The P/O equilibrium yields the same activation barrier for the two complexes. However, the main difference between the two model complexes is observed during the C−H activation step, where the complex bearing the non-activated C−H bonds yields a higher energy barrier, accounting for the experimental lack of reactivity of this complex under those conditions. 相似文献

Treatment of divalent (ONNO)V(TMEDA) ( 1 ; ONNO=[2,4‐Me2‐2‐(OH)C6H2CH2]2N(CH2)2NMe2) with CO2 afforded [(ONNO)V]2(μ‐OH)(μ‐formate) ( 2 ). Whereas the bridging hydroxo and formate groups both originated from CO2, the H atoms present on the two residues were obtained through H‐atom radical abstraction from the solvent. DFT calculations revealed an initially linear CO2 bonding mode, followed by deoxygenation, and highlighted a synergistic effect between the so‐formed oxo group and an additional bridging CO2 residue in promoting radical behavior. 相似文献

Interacting Quantum Atoms methodology is used for a detailed analysis of hydrogen abstraction reaction from hydroquinone by methoxy radical. Two pathways are analyzed, which differ in the orientation of the reactants at the corresponding transition states. Although the discrepancy between the two barriers amounts to only 2 kJ/mol, which implies that the two pathways are of comparable probability, the extent of intra‐atomic and inter‐atomic energy changes differs considerably. We thus demonstrated that Interacting Quantum Atoms procedure can be applied to unravel distinct energy transfer routes in seemingly similar mechanisms. Identification of energy components with the greatest contribution to the variation of the overall energy (intra‐atomic and inter‐atomic terms that involve hydroquinone's oxygen and the carbon atom covalently bound to it, the transferring hydrogen and methoxy radical's oxygen), is performed using the Relative energy gradient method. Additionally, the Interacting Quantum Fragments approach shed light on the nature of dominant interactions among selected fragments: both Coulomb and exchange‐correlation contributions are of comparable importance when considering interactions of the transferring hydrogen atom with all other atoms, whereas the exchange‐correlation term dominates interaction between methoxy radical's methyl group and hydroquinone's aromatic ring. This study represents one of the first applications of Interacting Quantum Fragments approach on first order saddle points. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献
