Importance Sampling for p-value Computations in Multivariate Tests

Abstract

An importance sampling procedure is developed to approximate the distribution of an arbitrary function of the eigenvalues for a matrix beta random matrix or a Wishart random matrix. The procedure is easily implemented and provides confidence intervals for the p-values of many of the commonly used test statistics in multivariate analysis. An adaptive procedure allows for the control of either absolute error or relative error in this p-value estimation through the choice of importance sample size.     

Parallel bucket sorting on graphics processing units based on convex optimization

We found an interesting relation between convex optimization and sorting problem. We present a parallel algorithm to compute multiple order statistics of the data by minimizing a number of related convex functions. The computed order statistics serve as splitters that group the data into buckets suitable for parallel bitonic sorting. This led us to a parallel bucket sort algorithm, which we implemented for many-core architecture of graphics processing units (GPUs). The proposed sorting method is competitive to the state-of-the-art GPU sorting algorithms and is superior to most of them for long sorting keys.     

Surface Tension of Ternary Liquid Mixtures

Abstract

Surface tension has been measured by the differential capillary rise method for three ternary mixtures containing alkanes (hexane + cyclohexane+benzene, pentane + hexane + benzene and cyclohexane + heptane + toluene at 298.15\pm 0.1°K). The sign and magnitude of the excess surface tension and excess volume depend ultimately upon the chain length of the component of the mixtures. The results of the surface tension were compared with theoretical values obtained from Flory theory, Sanchez method, Brock-Bird relation and volume fraction statistics. There is reasonable agreement between theory and experiment.     

三维随机分析的响应曲面法

本文采用“响应曲面法”设计了三维随机分析程序，可对多种材料组成的三维结构进行破坏概率计算，并在Ｗｉｎｄｏｗｓ下实现了计算结果的可视化。     

SEISMIC RANDOM VIBRATION ANALYSIS OF LOCALLY NONLINEAR STRUCTURES

A nonlinear seismic analysis method for complex frame structures subjected to stationary random ground excitations is proposed. The nonlinear elasto-plastic behaviors may take place only on a small part of the structure. The Bouc-Wen differential equation model is used to model the hysteretic characteristics of the nonlinear components. The Pseudo Excitation Method (PEM) is used in solving the linearized random differential equations to replace the solution of the less efficient Lyapunov equation. Numerical results of a real bridge show that .the method proposed is effective for practical engineering analysis.

对具有无穷方差的非线性自回归序列x_t=φ(x_(t-1),x_(t-2),…,x_(t-p),θ) ε_t,E(ε_t~2)=∞,利用局部二次近似和连续函数空间C(R~q)上弱收敛随机过程最小点的渐近性质,证明了若存在δ≥1,使得E|ε_t|~δ<∞成立,则θ满足一定条件的自加权L_1估计θ_(L_1)是渐近正态估计,Wald检验统计量也具有通常的x~2分布,为模型的统计推断提供了理论基础.     

Weak convergence of the U-statistic and weak invariance of the one-sample rank order statistic for Markov processes and ARMA models

Harel and Puri (1989, J. Multivariate Anal. 29) studied the asymptotic behavior of the U-statistic and the one-sample rank order statistic for nonstationary absolutely regular processes. In this note, we present some applications of these results for Markov processes as well as ARMA processes.     

Second-order linearity of the general signed-rank statistic

Let X₁,…, X_n be i.i.d. random variables symmetric about zero. Let R_i(t) be the rank of |X_i − tn^−1/2| among |X₁ − tn^−1/2|,…, |X_n − tn^−1/2| and T_n(t) = Σ_{i = 1}ⁿφ((n + 1)⁻¹R_i(t))sign(X_i − tn^−1/2). We show that there exists a sequence of random variables V_n such that sup_{0 ≤ t ≤ 1} |T_n(t) − T_n(0) − tV_n| → 0 in probability, as n → ∞. V_n is asymptotically normal.
