Voltammetric determination of malachite green in fish samples based on the enhancement effect of anionic surfactant

In this work, an electrochemical method for the determination of malachite green was developed on the basis of enhancement effect of an anionic surfactant: sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate. It is found that the oxidation peak current of malachite green at carbon paste electrode significantly increases in the presence of low concentration of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate in pH 6.5 phosphate buffer, suggesting that sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate shows obvious enhancement effect for the determination of malachite green. The experimental parameters, such as supporting electrolyte, kind of surfactant, concentration of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate and accumulation time, were optimized, and then a sensitive and convenient electrochemical method was proposed for the determination of malachite green. The oxidation peak current is proportional to the concentration of malachite green over the range from 8.0 × 10⁻⁹ to 5.0 × 10⁻⁷ mol l⁻¹, and the detection limit is 4.0 × 10⁻⁹ mol l⁻¹ after 5 min of accumulation. Finally, this new method was successfully employed to detect malachite green in fish samples. Published in Russian in Elektrokhimiya, 2008, Vol. 44, No. 8, pp. 1019–1024. Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Bioactivities of 1-（4-Chlorophenyl）-3- [ 5-（pyrid-4-yl）- 1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl] urea

The title compound 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-[5-(pyrid-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl]urea (C14H10ClN5OS, Mr = 331.79) has been synthesized by the reaction of 2-amino-5-(pyrid-4-yl)- 1,3,4-thiadiazole with 4-chlorobenzoyl azide, and its crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal belongs to triclinic system, space group P with a = 5.8550(8), b = 7.5668(10), c = 16.416(2) , α = 78.364(2), β = 81.204(2), γ = 84.749(2)°, V = 702.58(16) 3, Z = 2, Dc = 1.568 g/cm3, μ = 0.429 mm-1, F(000) = 340, the final R = 0.0442 and wR = 0.1092 for 2001 observed reflections (I > 2σ(I)). X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the title molecule is nearly planar. In the crystal structure, the molecules are linked by strong intermolecular N-H…N hydrogen bonds together with weak nonclassical intermolecular (C-H…Y, Y = N, O and Cl) hydrogen bonds and stacked through π-π interactions. The preliminary bioassay shows that the title compound exhibits good fungicidal activities against Rhizoctonia solani, Botrytis cinerea and Dothiorella gregaria.     

Development of a novel nitrite amperometric sensor based on poly(toluidine blue) film electrode

A novel sensor for the determination of nitrite anion () was fabricated by electrodeposition of toluidine blue. The sensor exhibited good catalytic activity toward the electrochemical oxidation of nitrite. Amperometry was carried out to determine the concentration of . A linear response in the range from 1.0×10⁻⁷ to 1.52×10⁻⁵ M with a substantially low detection limit of 5×10⁻⁸ M (S/N=3) was obtained. The proposed sensor had a feature of high sensitivity of 4.7×10⁵ μA M⁻¹ cm⁻². The possible interference from several common ions was tested. This sensor was applied to the amperometric determination of nitrite in food samples, and the results were consistent with those obtained with the standard spectrophotometric procedure.

Thermochemistry of rare earth complexes [Ln(Ala)2(Im)(H2O)](ClO4)3 (Ln=Pr, Gd)

The two complexes, [Ln(Ala)₂(Im)(H₂O)](ClO₄)₃ (Ln=Pr, Gd), were synthesized and characterized. Using a solution-reaction isoperibol calorimeter, standard enthalpies of reaction of two reactions: LnCl₃⋅6H₂O(s)+2Ala(s)+Im(s)+3NaClO₄(s)=[Ln(Ala)₂(Im)(H₂O)](ClO₄)₃(s)+3NaCl(s)+5H₂O(l) (Ln=Pr, Gd), at T=298.15 K, were determined to be (39.26±0.10) and (5.33±0.12) kJ mol^–1 , respectively. Standard enthalpies of formation of the two complexes at T=298.15 K, Δ_fH^Θ_m {[Ln(Ala)₂(Im)(H₂O)](ClO₄)₃(s)} (Ln=Pr, Gd), were calculated as –(2424.2±3.3) and –(2443.4±3.3) kJ mol^–1 , respectively.

Interval Valued Intuitionistic （S, T）-fuzzy Hv-submodules

On the basis of the concept of the interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets introduced by K. Atanassov, the notion of interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy Hv-submodules of an Hv-module with respect to a t-norm T and an s-norm S is given and the characteristic properties are described. The homomorphic image and the inverse image are investigated. In particular, the connections between interval valued intuitionistic （S, T）-fuzzy Hv-submodules and interval valued intuitionistic （S, T）-fuzzy submodules are discussed.

A novel chemical route to SiO2 nanowires

A white substance was got by directly heating TiSi powder on Ti foil, under Ar+O ₂ atmosphere. ED, EDX, SEM and HRTEM studies reveal that the white substance consists of amorphous SiO ₂ nanowires of smooth surface and uniform diameter (40-90 nm). X-ray-induced luminescent emission experiment shows that two broad peaks are at 430 and 570 nm. A one-dimensional growth mechanism, on the basis of the one-dimensional thermal flow during nanowire formation, is discussed.
