Abstract A color test is presented for the purpose of quickly identifying glazed ceramic and/or enameled metalware which releases excessive Pb. Citric acid solution on filter paper is used to extract Pb from the ware and a Pb-sensitive chromogen indicates the presence of Pb on the paper. The quick color test takes approximately 30 min and is useful for screening ware to determine the need for testing by the 24-h method of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists/American Society for Testing and Materials. 相似文献

In ESR dating of Early Pleistocene fossil tooth enamel samples, the fitting function used for the evaluation of the DE value is undoubtedly among the major sources of uncertainty. Dose recovery tests performed on fossil tooth enamel showing DE values >1,000 Gy demonstrate: (i) that high precision ESR measurements (<0.5%) and high DE reproducibility (<5%) may be achieved; (ii) the appropriateness of the Double Saturating Exponential (DSE) fitting function for ESR dose reconstruction. In contrast, the SSE function, which has been almost exclusively used so far, does simply not correctly describe the behavior of the radiation induced ESR signal of tooth enamel with the dose.Several fitting functions and data weighting options were tested and the combination of a DSE with data weighted by the inverse of the squared intensities is the procedure providing the most accurate DE results. However, the SSE may nevertheless sometimes produce consistent results if Dmax does not exceed 6*DE. Further work is required in that direction in order to determine more precisely in which conditions the SSE could be used as a fair approximation of the DSE function for these samples. 相似文献

Fluorescence lifetime imaging methodology has been successfully implemented at Unilever Research in a frequency-domain manner.
The experimental rig constructed comprises a wide-bandwidth electrooptic modulator operating on a CW argon-ion laser. The
modulated excitation with a typical upper modulation frequency limit of 200 MHz falls on macroscopic samples and the resultant
scattered light or fluorescence emission is then imaged onto a custom gain-modulatable image intensifier and slow-scan CCD
camera combination. Phase adjustment of the image intensifier relative to the laser modulator is achieved by the RF function
generator driving the intensifier. Both homodyne and heterodyne (500-Hz) strobing modes are employed to generate a double
image stack (scattered light reference and fluorescence emission) comprising an image sequence as a function of instrumental
phase difference. These image stacks are analyzed by Fourier least-squares methods to yield lifetime images by both phase
delay and normalized demodulation. Correct operation of the apparatus is deduced from the direct imaging of a quencher-induced
lifetime variation of BODIPY disulfonate over a range of concentrations. A typical industrially relevant sample, comprising
an investigation of the lifetime aspects of human dental enamel autofluorescence at 50MHz modulation frequency, is given.
This shows that there are real emission lifetime decreases of about 0.5 nsec in white-spot lesion areas compared to the surrounding
sound enamel. 相似文献

Laser irradiation on hard tissue has produced a resistant surface that is likely to prevent caries. In this study, human enamel and dentine were exposed to nanosecond pulsed Nd:YAG laser with energy densities of 20-40 J/cm(2) and pulse width of 6 ns inducing chemical changes in these tissues. Infrared analysis of human dental enamel and dentine was performed using the KBr method (2mg sample/300 mg KBr). A correlation between non-lased and lased spectra was performed that gives an indication of the changes in organic and inorganic compounds after laser-tissue interaction. Spectra of teeth simultaneously show the inorganic and organic parts of the tissue. The principal bands: amide bands A, I, II, and III from the collagen-matrix, phosphate from the mineral content, and carbonate bands were identified. The normalized area of peak versus peak position was determined. Changes of the bands attributed to the collagen matrix were verified after Nd:YAG irradiation. The present results suggest a chemical modification of organic and mineral compounds by laser. The spectral results indicated an alteration in the absorption bands relative to, essentially, organic compounds. 相似文献

A selection of 15 painted enamels, most of which belong to Limoges productions, from 1500 to 1900 A.D. , has been studied on‐site in the storage rooms of musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris. The Raman signatures of the transparent and/or opacified glass matrix are discussed and compared with those which were previously recorded on glazed pottery, enamelled and stained glasses as well as Chinese cloisonné enamels. Analysed enamels mostly belong to soda‐lime‐based glass. Three types of compositions such as soda‐lime (fifteenth to sixteenth century), soda‐rich (fifteenth, sixteenth/nineteenth centuries) and lead‐potash‐lime (sixteenth and nineteenth centuries) are identified on the basis of the Raman signature of the glaze according to the wavenumber maxima of the Si O stretching and bending multiplets. The pigment signatures are similar to those recorded on ceramic glazes and glass enamels, which proves the similarity of the technologies. Cassiterite as an opacifier and hematite red and Naples yellow pigment variations give characteristic Raman signatures. The presence of lead arsenate as a pigment opacifier in nineteenth‐century samples is confirmed. Attempts are made to establish tools for the differentiation between genuine artefacts and nineteenth‐century restoration or fakes. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

ABSTRACTCarbon and oxygen isotopes ratios from herbivore teeth have previously been used as paleo-environmental proxies in temperate zones. However, their utility in tropical zones remains uncertain. In this study, sequential sub-samples from white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) teeth (second and third molars) from the Maya archaeological site of La Joyanca, located in northwestern Petén, Guatemala, show that δ18O of enamel carbonate corresponds broadly to modern observed precipitation δ18O over the 10-month period of tooth formation, capturing rainfall seasonality. The analyses also detect significant diachronic differences in the δ18O between the periods 1100–1000 BP (850–950 A.D.) and 1000–900 BP (950–1050 A.D.) at La Joyanca. The δ13C in both periods are indicative of a C3-plant based diet, which suggests cultivation of maize did not differentially affect deer diet during this period. 相似文献

Abstract The surfaces of both normal and fluoride treated human dental enamel were examined with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA). Using argon-ion etching to remove thin layers of enamel, subsurface layers were also analyzed. The resulting composition-depth profile showed that stannous fluoride produced a subsurface layer containing both tin and fluoride whereas fluorine was absent from the surface layer. Acid fluoride treatments, however, converted the surface to calcium fluoride which steadily decreased in concentration with depth. 相似文献
