Iron oxides are widely found as ores in Earth's crust and are also important constituents of its interiors. Their polymorphism, composition changes, and electronic structures play essential roles in controlling the structure and geodynamic properties of the solid Earth. While all-natural occurring iron oxides are semiconductors or insulators at ambient pressure, they start to metalize under pressure. Here in this work, we review the electronic conductivity and metallization of iron oxides under high-pressure conditions found in Earth's lower mantle. We summarize that the metallization of iron oxides is generally controlled by the pressure-induced bandgap closure near the Fermi level. After metallization, they possess much higher electrical and thermal conductivity, which will facilitate the thermal convection, support a more stable and thicker D$\prime\prime$ layer, and formulate Earth's magnetic field, all of which will constrain the large-scale dynamos of the mantle and core.  相似文献

Spin-crossover complexes with multistep transitions attract much attention due to their potential applications as multi-switches and for data storage. A four-step spin crossover is observed in the new iron(II)-based cyanometallic guest-free framework compound Fe(2-ethoxypyrazine)2{Ag(CN)2}2 during the transition from the low-spin to the high-spin state. A reverse process occurs in three steps. Crystallographic studies reveal an associated stepwise evolution of the crystal structures. Multiple transitions in the reported complex originate from distinct FeII sites which exist due to the packing of the ligand with a bulky substituent.  相似文献

Nitrene transfer reactions have emerged as one of the most powerful and versatile ways to insert an amine function to various kinds of hydrocarbon substrates. However, the mechanisms of nitrene generation have not been studied in depth albeit their formation is taken for granted in most cases without definitive evidence of their occurrence. In the present work, we compare the generation of tosylimido iron species and NTs transfer from FeII and FeIII precursors where the metal is embedded in a tetracarbene macrocycle. Catalytic nitrene transfer to reference substrates (thioanisole, styrene, ethylbenzene and cyclohexane) revealed that the same active species was at play, irrespective of the ferrous versus ferric nature of the precursor. Through combination of spectroscopic (UV-visible, Mössbauer), ESI-MS and DFT studies, an FeIV tosylimido species was identified as the catalytically active species and was characterized spectroscopically and computationally. Whereas its formation from the FeII precursor was expected by a two-electron oxidative addition, its formation from an FeIII precursor was unprecedented. Thanks to a combination of spectroscopic (UV-visible, EPR, Hyscore and Mössbauer), ESI-MS and DFT studies, we found that, when starting from the FeIII precursor, an FeIII tosyliodinane adduct was formed and decomposed into an FeV tosylimido species which generated the catalytically active FeIV tosylimide through a comproportionation process with the FeIII precursor.  相似文献

We report the precise postsynthetic control of the composition of β‐Fe1+xSe by electrochemistry with simultaneous tracking of the associated structural changes via in situ synchrotron X‐ray diffraction. We access the full phase width of 0.01<x<0.04 and identify the superconducting state below 8 K, which in contrast to earlier reports is independent of the composition. However, in a second set of in situ X‐ray diffraction experiments, we demonstrate that β‐Fe1+xSe forms a new phase in the presence of oxygen above a 100 °C which has the same anti‐PbO type structure but is not superconducting down to 1.8 K. The latter process can be reversed electrochemically to reinstate the superconducting state. These observations exploit the exquisite control afforded by electrochemistry in contrast with classical approaches of chemical synthesis.  相似文献

The incorporation of comonomers during ethylene polymerization can efficiently modulate important material properties of the polyolefins. Utilizing bioresourced comonomers for the generation of high‐performance polyolefin materials is attractive from a sustainability point of view. In this contribution, bioresourced eugenol and related comonomers were incorporated into polyolefins through palladium‐catalyzed copolymerization and terpolymerization reactions. Importantly, high‐molecular‐weight catechol‐functionalized polyolefins can be generated. The introduction of different metal ions induces efficient interactions with the incorporated catechol groups, leading to enhanced mechanical properties and self‐healing properties. Moreover, the catechol functionality can greatly improve other properties such as surface properties, adhesion properties, and compatibilizing properties. The catechol‐functionalized polyolefin was demonstrated as a versatile platform polymer for accessing various materials with dramatically different properties.  相似文献

Substitution of carbonyl ligands of the hydrogenase model complex [Fe2(μ-SeCH2CH(Me)CH2Se-μ)(CO)6] ( A ), by 1,1′-bis (diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf), 1,2-bis (diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppbz) or 1,2-bis (diphenylphosphino)acetylene (dppac) is investigated. It is found that the reaction product depends on the diphosphine used. In the case of dppf, the product is an intramolecular bridged disubstituted complex [Fe2{μ-SeCH2CH(Me)CH2Se-μ}(CO)4{μ,κ11(P,P)-dppf}] ( 1 ), while the dppac-reaction produces an intermolecular bridged tetra-iron model [Fe2{μ-SeCH2CH(Me)CH2Se-μ}(CO)5]2{μ,κ11(P,P)-dppac} ( 2 ). However, the dppbz-reaction gives [Fe2{μ-SeCH2CH(Me)CH2Se-μ}(CO)42(P,P)-dppbz}] ( 3 ) in which the dppbz ligand is bonded to one Fe atom in a chelated manner. The newly prepared complexes ( 1 – 3 ) have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-, 13C{H}-, 31P{H}-, 77Se{H}-NMR spectroscopy and X-ray structure determination. The electrochemical behavior of 2 and 3 , in absence and presence of acid, is described by cyclic voltammetric measurements in CH2Cl2.  相似文献

Rieske dioxygenases are metalloenzymes capable of achieving cis-dihydroxylation of aromatics under mild conditions using O2 and a source of electrons. The intermediate responsible for this reactivity is proposed to be a cis-FeV(O)(OH) moiety. Molecular models allow the generation of a FeIII(OOH) species with H2O2, to yield a FeV(O)(OH) species with tetradentate ligands, or {FeIV(O); OH.} pairs with pentadentate ones. We have designed a new pentadentate ligand, mtL42, bearing a labile triazole, to generate an “in-between” situation. Two iron complexes, [(mtL42)FeCl](PF6) and [(mtL42)Fe(OTf)2]), were obtained and their reactivity towards aromatic substrates was studied in the presence of H2O2. Spectroscopic and kinetic studies reflect that triazole is bound at the FeII state, but decoordinates in the FeIII(OOH). The resulting [(mtL42)FeIII(OOH)(MeCN)]2+ then lies on a bifurcated decay pathway (end-on homolytic vs. side-on heterolytic) depending on the addition of aromatic substrate: in the absence of substrate, it is proposed to follow a side-on pathway leading to a putative (N4)FeV(O)(OH), while in the presence of aromatics it switches to an end-on homolytic pathway yielding a {(N5)FeIV(O); OH.} reactive species, through recoordination of triazole. This switch significantly impacts the reaction regioselectivity.  相似文献

A new dinuclear iron(Ⅲ) complex has been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography: [FeⅢ2(L)(C6H5COO)(SO4)(CH3OH)2]·CH3CN·CH3OH(1, H3 L = N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,3-diamino-2-propanol). Complex 1 belongs to orthorhombic space group Pna21 with a = 11.4400(8), b = 22.9705(2), c = 12.5712(9) , V = 3303.5(4) 3, Z = 4, F(000) = 1576, Dc = 1.531 g·cm–3, Mr = 761.36, μ = 1.007 mm–1, S = 1.014, the final R = 0.0505 and wR = 0.1018. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular O–H···O hydrogen bonds, forming an extended one-dimensional chain structure. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility measurement shows that antiferromagnetic interaction is propagated between the metal centers. Fit as dinuclear arrangement gave parameters of J = 19.7 cm-1, g = 1.89 and R2 = 0.9999.  相似文献
