The shape of the steady-state three-dimensional flow velocity profile established in carrier liquid flowing inside the rectangular cross-sectional channel for field-flow fractionation should be taken into account to optimize the separation. The central parts of this profile in the planes parallel to the main channel walls are flat with almost identical flow velocities which drop down to zero at the side walls. The separated species transported by the flow in the close-to-side walls regions move with lower average velocities compared to the species transported in the central part of the channel and are undesirably broadened. The hydrodynamic splitting of the carrier liquid at the entry of the channel where the sample is injected only into the central part of the channel eliminates the excessive zone broadening. The aspect ratio of the breadth to the thickness of the channel ratio can thus be reduced. The effect of various aspect ratios on the shape of the flow velocity profile is calculated and the results are used to optimize the aspect ratio of microfluidic channels. The experiments carried out by microthermal field-flow fractionation confirmed that the aspect ratio cannot be reduced to a value of 1, proposed by other authors. 相似文献

Instrumental neutron activation analysis was used for determination of vanadium mass fraction in crystals of incipient ferroelectric strontium titanate and ferroelectric barium titanate. In order to improve vanadium limit of detection, discriminating gamma-ray spectrometry was used by inserting an absorption filter between the samples and an HPGe detector. The use of the absorption lead filter 6-mm thick yielded improvement of the vanadium limit of detection by a factor of two. The vanadium mass fraction determined in a quality control sample, which was NIST standard reference material SRM 1648 Urban Particulate Matter, was in close agreement with the certified value.

A sensitive voltammetric method for the determination of pyrogallol (PY) was developed employing a boron-doped diamond electrode (BDDE). The composition of the supporting electrolyte was investigated during the development of the methodology. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) under the optimized experimental conditions was applied for PY determination with a limit of detection and limit of quantification of 0.85 and 2.82 μmol L?1, respectively. These values are satisfactory for application to real samples. The usability of this method for the quantification of pyrogallol was in range from 2.82 to 296.00 μmol L?1. Finally, the developed method was successfully used for the analysis of real samples of biodiesel produced from rapeseed oil and its blend with diesel fuel. Samples of biodiesel and biodiesel blends were analyzed directly in an electrochemical cell, while samples with very low concentrations of PY in biodiesel were extracted with water using the proposed simple and fast process. 相似文献
