A secondary semantics for Second Order Intuitionistic Propositional Logic

In this paper we propose a Kripke‐style semantics for second order intuitionistic propositional logic and we provide a semantical proof of the disjunction and the explicit definability property. Harnack inequality for two‐weight subelliptic p ‐Laplace operators

Simultaneous dielectric spectroscopy and calorimetry of the dynamics during a macromolecules growth

Summary A method and an instrument has been developed for measuring almost simultaneously and continuously in time three different quantities: i) the heat evolved during the course of exothermic reactions, ii) the heat capacity and iii) the dielectric spectra of a liquid or solid sample. By using this instrument, we have studied the decrease in the d.c. conductivity and the increase in the relaxation time as molecules in an isothermally kept liquid chemically react to produce, irreversibly, a macromolecular structure until the liquid vitrifies and becomes rigid. The number of covalent bonds formed in the structure,n, has been calculated and the dielectric relaxation time, τ, is related ton. This τ increases progressively more rapidly withn, and decreases, of course, on increasing the temperature. A compensation between these two effects determines the dynamic behaviour observed during rate heating. The effect of temperature is found to predominate. Such observations have been made possible by means of the new instrument.     

Experimental artifacts which can influence the interpretation of transmission or reflection data in strongly scattering media

Summary Several experimental artifacts which can cause traunsport in strongly scattering media to appear to depart from classically expected behavior are discussed. In particular, scale-dependent transmission data in dielectric media consisting of either alumina or polystyrene spheres that reveal two different absorption lengths are shown to be most likely due to the presence of unscattered or coherent energy. A restricted geometry decreases the attenuation coefficient. This analysis requires the application of the diffusion equation to thin samples, less than four mean free paths in thickness, which in turn requires boundary conditions on the diffuse flux to be rederived. It is shown that in these thin samples, the coherentenergy contribution to the measured transport is probably more important than the thin-sample corrections to diffusive transport.     

H,C, Pt NMR study on platinum(II) interaction with sulphur containing Amadori compounds

The NMR study on the interaction of Pt(II) with Amadori compounds is performed. The Amadori compounds are derived from the reaction of β-d-glucose with l-cystine leading to N,N′-di-(1-deoxy-β-fructos-1-yl)-l-cystine [FruCyscys], and with l-methionine leading to N-(1-deoxy-β-fructos-1-yl)-l-methionine [FruMet].     

On the effect of incident angular resolution in high-energy fixed-target collision experiments

A general calculation of the correction to the measured cross section in fixed-target experiments, due to the angular resolution of the incident beam, is carried out. A first-order expression in the incident solid angle ΔΩ is explicity given, and shows that, in the TeV region, angular resolutions as accurate as 10^?1 mrad are required for measurements within the cross-section forward peak.     

Dilatation and temperature increase of a semiconductor surface heated by a cw laser

A simple interferometric method is discussed which allows to measure thermal dilatation, and its time evolution, of a semiconductor slab heated with a cw laser beam. From these measurements information on some thermal parameters can be inferred. Experimental results are presented and contrasted with the theory.     

Proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra ofOrtho-metalated alkyne-carbonyltriosmium complexes

Summary The¹H nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of Os₃(CO)₈(Ph₂C₂)₂ and Os₃(CO)₈[(p-ClC₆H₄)₂C₂]₂ are described. In these metal cluster complexes theortho-metalation involves phenyl groups linked to a cyclopentadiene ring.
