Water contact angles on polysulfone and polyethersulfone films exposed to UV irradiation have been found to decrease dramatically. We relate this phenomenon to the formation and release of disulfonic acid from the irradiated films, a well-known surfactant. The phenomenon appears to be reversible, namely, cleansed surfaces retained their initial contact angle. The revealed phenomenon may provide a means of controlling the spreading of liquids on polysulfone and polyethersulfone films and seems promising for use in microfluidics applications.  相似文献

Successful coupling of imaging microscopy with Fourier transform spectrometry provides a new methodological approach. This was applied to the direct analysis of particulate deposits of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The fluorescence signals of single microscopic particulates were found to be proportional to their mass, obtained from the corresponding HPLC results. Special fluorescence characteristics related to individual particle analysis were studied. The sensitivity of the proposed method to PAHs in soil is in the sub-ppb range, similar to HPLC results. Analysis of inhomogeneous PAH-particulates was demonstrated, as well as the resolution of photochemical products of PAHs. The effects of particulate orientation relative to the detector upon quantification are discussed.  相似文献

The critical micelle concentration of mixtures of anionic and nonionic surfactants was measured. The anionic surfactants were alkylbenzene sulfonates and the nonionic surfactants were polyoxyethylene nonylphenols and a polyoxy-ethylene alcohol. The effect of added electrolyte, the number of ethylene oxide units in the polyethoxylate, and the anionic alkyl chain length were studied. All systems showed substantial negative deviations (lower CMC) from ideal solution theory. The results can be represented by regular solution theory. Charge separation appears to be the source of the nonideality. This considers the reduction of electrostatic repulsion between the ionic surfactant head groups in the mixed micelle, due to the insertion of nonionic hydrophilic groups between these charged groups, to be the cause of enhanced micelle formation. The physical basis of regular solution theory was shown to be consistent with the charge separation effect.  相似文献

There are a number of ways of dealing with a linear programming problem in which some variables are allowed to take on negative values. One of these methods, which is either ignored or mentioned only incidentally in most textbooks, requires only one additional variable to be introduced regardless of how many unrestricted variables the original problem has. For many equations arising in practice, the solutions are critical points of functionals. In previous papers we have shown that there are pairs of subsets, called sandwich pairs, that can produce critical points even though they do not separate the functional. All that is required is that the functional be bounded from above on one of the sets and bounded from below on the other, with no relationship needed between the bounds. This provides a distinct advantage in applications. The present paper discusses the situation in which one cannot find sandwich pairs for which the functional is bounded below on one set and bounded above on the other. We develop a method which can deal with such situations and apply it to problems in partial differential equations.  相似文献
